What song do you use to introduce Fleetwood Mac to your friends?
 

When you have friends they don't know the Mac at all, and you want to tell them.. Hey, this is my favorite band in the whole wide world... What song do you choose?

I choose TUSK (studio), or Stand Back live. They sound very cool. So I usually I got cool reactions from my friend. They say it sounds cool, or they ask.. "Is that Fleetwood Mac???? WOW!"

Sometimes I got the same reactions with The Chain

Hmmm...my friends don't give one rat's ass about F.M. which is why we NEVER talk about them. If we do, I just get mad because they end up disrespecting them in one way or another. Oh well, their loss!! But if I was to strap them down and force it on them...I guess I would play The Dance version of Silver Springs until their ears bled! That'll learn 'em. :laugh:

I don't really do that. But the other day when my friend visited, I said "you have to see this" and showed him Chain from Mirage DVD. He already knows about Mac, though, and it a musician, so...he could appreciate it...of course, he's a drummer and so we decided that someone's gonna have to pour beer down his throat for him the next time he plays... :laugh:

Gold Dust Woman, The Chain or GYOW. They're pretty well known & popular. NEVER Don't Stop, though :p

Go Your Own Way, and The Chain. My friend was actually turned on to FM by The Ledge (the song) though :shrug:

I just recently properly introduced a friend to the whole spectre of FM/Stevie. First I made her a mixed Stevie cd w/:

So there is some "FM" songs on there, but I also let her listen to Tusk (the song) and she really likes that one. She was very impressed with Big Love, but then again who wouldn't? :shrug: And it was funny I was wearing a FM shirt from the past tour and she said I can name two of them! Of course SnL and then I had to tell her John plays the bass and Mick plays the drums.
Just give me a little while longer and she'll be posting on here in no time. :nod:

In the past it's been either Rhiannon or Silver Springs (both of the ones from The Dance) - I've actually converted a couple with those songs :nod: :D

I hate to say this, but when my friends ask what songs they sing I tell them Don't Stop or Landslide. Those would probably be the ones they would know. Most of the time they're like "ohhhhh yeah I didn't know they sang that!" When I'm introducting them to Stevie, I just let them hear EO17, since that would be the one they would know! But, if I wanted them to hear their better music, I normally just let them hear my song of the moment...I always have different FM songs! :D I actually had a girl mention FM to me and she's like I love that song "Storms" I was so surprised she knew that one!

THAT'S MY POINT!!!!!

I mean, I don't choose the most popular songs. Maybe I do for old enough guys who can remember Dreams or Don't Stop. But I try to choose songs with more cool sound, you know

I mean, specially when I meet young people I play for them TUSK, and they really like that sound! Or the Stand Back live intro!!!!

I also play for them Silver Springs from the Dance dvd, and just to show them the eyes between S&L during the "never get away" part, but that's just to show them the feeling and explain the old soap opera

But to show them a cool sound... TUSK!!! and Stand back live!!!

I use "Not That Funny" to impress friends & associates.

I'm not sure what the problem is, but I've been almost completely unsuccessful at turning people on to the Mac thus far.

Don't Stop or Stand Back.

I converted my cousin to FM.

I would probably play them Rhiannon or Silver Springs.

I once introduced one of my friends to the band by letting her watch The Dance with me. She cried when she saw Landslide and Silver Springs..
She cried when she saw them kiss..she thought that was beautiful. She cried during Silver Springs because she was so amazed at how Stevie was singing to Lindsey..and she said that the song was so heartbreaking it was sad and made her cry.

Well, she has been a fan of the band since she saw that. She went out the next day and bought The Dance on CD.

LOL I wonder why? (THAT is my LEAST favorite song of ALL mac stuff)

I usually don't do it, but a friend asked me a cd with some of the music I'm listening, and I think it's time to introduce him also to Fleetwood Mac (he knows some of their seventies and eighties songs but isn't really a fan), so I'll add Gold Dust Woman from the Dance, Miranda, Illume (an early mix) and Beautiful Child live, they should be closer to his tastes.

It depends on the friend. "Music snob" types tend to like Lindsey's stuff better. "Tusk" will usually do the trick.

For everyone else, either "Silver Springs," "Gypsy" or "Sara" -- the Stevie triumvirate. :nod:

My friends would NEVER understand the whole Silver Springs from the Dance thing...They would just think they were looking at each other singing a song... :distress:

I think mine, too. however, one girl i was friends with did happen to love silver springs after she heard it...she never saw the vid. though.

I just give them Rumours to listen to. Little effort on my part, but they seem to enjoy it some....No one in my circle will ever be a fanatic, though.

It depends on the person, I suppose, and what they like. I agree with The Chain from the Mirage concert for those people who are all "They are soft rock. That's not rock and roll."

Yeah, well, listen to THIS! Also, play any version of ISA, GYOW and Come. They'll be all "Woah." :laugh:

My mom went to a couple of FM SYW shows with me and a week or so ago, she yells out at me, as she's driving away, "I want a Fleetwood Mac CD!!" as Don't Stop was playing on the radio. She is obsessed with that song. LOL

I let a gal at work listen to The Dance one time and when she brought it back to me, she went "Track 5, OMG, I listened to it over and over again."

Some people i know have found Big Love very impressive as well, all that sound, one man playing guitar!
I like how now, my dad's all "I was watching that concert on PBS - Man, that guy is a helluva guitar player!" (my dad got into college on a music scholarship, so appreciates that kind of thing)
And during Xmas vacation, I finally played Insider, live, for my mom. She actually said:
"I wouldn't mind having a copy of that! Yes, Amber, that is an unusual and beautiful harmony. I didn't hear the words, but they sound so passionate!"

Let me think here. I've used to convert my friends. "If you ever did Believe" I used on a girl in 8th grade. She loved practical magic. "The Chain" I used on my girlfriend she loves the dance version the best. "Miranda" I used on my girlfriend's grandmother. She started singing it in the car. "Trouble in Shangri La" I used to get him to like Stevie nicks again since he hadn't heard an album of hers since 1981. ;)

My friends & family all pretty much hate Fleetwood Mac (bitches!). But whenever I did try to get them into FM...I usually played The Chain ..and then something like the live version of Rhiannon or Tusk.

I have had success with showing them The Dance video version of "Silver Springs" and older (1975-1977) clips of "Rhiannon." This just sucks them in. They are always like "that is soooo powerful and emotional; I can understand the band's attraction now." Also, my best friend loves the "unusual" stuff on the Tusk album. She like "The Ledge" the best. I think "The Chain," "Go Your Own Way," and "Second Hand News" would be good to share with people. They are upbeat, have awesome guitar, and great lyrics. I think that most people would hear these songs and like them, because they have those "immediate-like" qualities. :thumbsup:

If I had to do that at this point in my life, or should I say their career, something is wrong.....oh so very drastically wrong! :)

I've had greater luck with Silver Springs at least one time and a 1975 Rhiannon performance.

But the absolute best way has been.....

I've found, for the most part, that trying to introduce Fleetwood Mac (or more specifically Lindsey Buckingham) to my friends using just a song from a cd just doesn't cut it. The best way is for them to see the talent.
I converted my best friend (whose favorite bands are Tool, A Perfect Circle, and Nine Inch Nails) into a Buckingham fan by taking her to two of the shows on the Say You Will tour - a rather expensive but effective means of doing it. After the first concert her response was "I have three words: He is amazing!" :D
However, I tried that tactic with another friend but to no avail, despite being only maybe two feet away from the stage. I think the situation wasn't helped by the fact that he spent the night being hit on by some bikini-top clad teeny-bopper who kept yelling "Stevie, I want to have your baby!" and a middle aged man with a receding hairline. My friend also kept insisting that he questioned Lindsey's sexuality. Personally, I think his gaydar is malfunctioning -- either that or it was wishful thinking that he'd never admit to.
My former manager was converted to a Buckingham fan because I had her watch the Dance. After that, whenever a Lindsey song came on the radio or if I played a cd she'd ask "Is this song about Stevie?" and if I said no her response was "Good. I really like this song and would hate to think that it's about her." :laugh:
If I were to try to convert someone now, I'd have them watch "Come" from Live in Boston.

Where did you see your shows? :wavey:

First show: July 6, 2003 at Arco Arena in Sacramento California. We were quite a few rows back but on the floor and not bad at all.

Second show: July 23, 2003 at the Oakland Arena. Seats not lousy but not great. Just above the floor and too far back to be worth what I paid.

Third show: June 26, 2004 at the Sleep Train Ampitheatre in Marysville, CA
Had ninth row seats but never sat in them. Spent the whole concert standing about two feet from the stage.

Cool! I was there too right in front of Lindsey. :)

rock! I was at that oakland show, 2003 (bad seats, snuck in) and wanted to hit the Marysville one, but ended up I could only go to Concord and San Jose. front for both, though.
I really like the sound in Oakland, that was the first time i had been there... :wavey:

Oh, I didn't know, i thought it was an anomoly. :o

We arrived late so I ended up in front of Stevie and couldn't seem to move any further. :distress:
