Do you think Lindsey...
Do you think Lindsey ever bought like Behind the Mask or a Stevie solo album?
I was listening to Behind the Mask and I wondered what LINDSEY thought of it, if he went out and bought it and listened to it?? |
The band/Stevie prolly gave Lindsey their work for free....an advanced copy or something as a gift.
Maybe? |

......but his magic couldn't have saved Desert Angel. |
interesting topic...
I am sure he listened to BTM before it was even released to the public...and analyzed and picked it apart!!
Here is something I have always wondered...did Lindsey EVER take that BellaDonna album home that Stevie signed for him and left in the studio? I hope he eventually took it home but somehow I think he probably did not, wanting to win that battle of wills and all. (especially once he realized how much it bothered her that he left it there!) It is sort of interesting how certain little stuff like that still seems to bother..or maybe it's hurt...Stevie today. |

Yup
Stevie tells that story on one of the Behind the Musics, I think. I believe it is Lindsey's.....and boy she looks pissed. She describes getting her copy of BellaDonna before it was released and getting a copy for LB. She autographs it and takes it into their studio. I guess she doesn't have enough guts to give it to him so she leaves it in the studio and then watches it for the rest of the day and LB just ignores it. She says he "never took it home". Now, I figure he listened to it of course but would not give her the satisfaction of taking that particular copy home with him. She seemed genuinely hurt when she was talking about it, what 20 years later? They did have and still do have an interesting relationship.

Didn't even John claim not to have heard any of LB's solo albums?
I mean really- who should believe that? Seems everyone claims to be uninterested by these things. It's an ego thing. That can't really be true. First I suppose you have to have professional interest in what your bandmate is doing and in which way he or she is developing. You have to consider these things once you work together again. Analyzing positive and negative aspects is a professional must imo for improvement in the future. Secondly there are some examples of songs played on FM live shows that came from the solo albums, so you better know these before... And the third thing is, you are simply curious about what the others have been doing. No way LB didn't know the songs from Bella donna and vice versa. I am sure every bandmember knows even the Mick solo albums. Btw you could suppose that some copies from every album anyone made got sent to family members, friends and the band. |

Lindsey did appear at one of the BTM shows, no? I think he came out and played Landslide (a while back I think Neil or someone else may have had that up for download). I'm sure after he left the band, there was some curiosity as to what was still going on and he probably did listen to the album--laughed at the fact that it took two guitarists to replace him (hell, that still makes me laugh)--maybe even a little hurt that the band still went on without him. I do believe he listened to Stevie's albums. However, I don't think he ever discussed them with her nor did he say anything about them. I believe in a TISL interview, Stevie mentions how excited she was to hear Lindsey say how much he loved the album because he'd never really complimented her before (probably because perfectionist Lindsey was too busy criticizing). |

If you think about it, there isn't much on "Behind the Mask" that would really have interested Lindsey from the standpoint of production or arrangement or instrumentation -- & those are so important to him, as we all know. There isn't anything on "Mask" that pushes any envelopes, as far as Lindsey was concerned. I bet he saw that album the way many of us do: just a rather bland collection of reactionary trackmaking. I think Lindsey sees most of Stevie's solo work in the same way. If you're not interested in a particular musical style, you're not interested. Friends hand me CDs all the time that I'm supposed to take home & listen to, & I just don't want to. I might take the CDs & put them in my car for a few days -- sort of pretend to listen to them -- or I might just let them sit on my desk, or give them back almost immediately to the person with a lame excuse. Lindsey was probably curious about "Bella Donna," & he probably listened to it -- or some of it. After a couple of tracks of "Bella Donna," it would have been apparent to him just what was going on musically, & I can't imagine it would have been such a big thrill for him. So as other Stevie solo albums were released over the years, he probably ignored them. As his tastes have deteriorated, maybe he's been listening to more of her work. I mean, "Running Through the Garden" is not all that different in instrumental approach from "No Spoken Word." I like to think that he was more recently familiar with some aspect of "Rock a Little" as an overall groove & perhaps tried to apply that. |

On the other hand, don't we have a little part of a 1982 FM rehearsal where they play a little bit of "Edge of Seventeen" -- just screwing around? Of course, that doesn't mean much. It was all over the radio back then. |

True. Fleetwood Mac also played around with her songs that eventually made it to Bella Donna (Think About It, for one).....and eventually released some of the tunes that didn't make it (Gypsy). I think Lindsey would have been curious to see how the songs that didn't make Rumours or Tusk sounded on Bella Donna. Also, he had to have had listened to BD demos in order to see how Stevie wanted the songs to be like on down the line during recordings. So, of course Stevie's solo career was talked about in the band...IMO. |

Here's a thought...maybe he never saw it? :o
If Stevie signed with the intention to gift Lindsey, she should have. IMO If someone entered a room, and layed something around, but never said "here ya go!" I'd leave said object where it lay too. |

RAL sounds dated and IMO most of the lyrics on that album were not her best. But what I don't like about it is the vocals. If Stevie is off vocally, it's much, much, harder for me to get into her stuff....because I don't enjoy actually listening to it. But here we are discussing Stevie in a Lindsey thread...so back to LB. |
