Fleetwood Mac Convention Austin TX 1992
 

I was looking through some of my Mac stuff and I found my commemorative program that they gave us at the convention. I was looking at the list of attendees and I was just wondering what happened to some of these people. Would they still be active in the fan community? I was wondering if anyone here on the Ledge attended. I know that sadly a few of the people did pass away. I would love to go to another Mac convention but I don’t think that would happen again.

Oh wow that would be the coolest thing. Especially more-so now since there is such an established on-line community, it could be a whole different dynamic than in years past.

I would like to be part of some sort of convention. Maybe like you mentioned with the internet it could be better. I was just a bit disappointed with the vendors. I thought that there would be more then they had but I always want more. :lol:

Sadly, I think that the internet has hurt some of the fun of going to record conventions. I used to go to a few up in Boston and they would have quite a few vendors selling everything from, posters, promo CDs, import CDs, press kits, photos, 'recorded shows" ;) ,etc. Today it is basically a waste of time.
Most of the vendors don't even bother coming anymore or just went out of business.

I haven't heard of anyone who's heard anything from or had any dealings with George Kane. Joe Admire is probably still around, wherever he hangs out online these days. Frank Harding, of course, grabbed his loot & fled overseas. I think a lot of those attendees are still around; everyone's got a registration-only Web board these days, which makes it tough to track old-timers.

Yeah, I don't see him advertise any more in Goldmine or anything. Goldmine has really gone down hill, too. Maybe he no longer has the store.

A lot of those vendors just faded away. There aren't too many places to find promo CDs anymore either. I had an advanced promo copy of the Dance a week before it came out. I even got a promo TISL CD a week before it's official release. When SYW was due to be released I could not find anyone that had an advanced promo copy. I still don't know if they ever did release a promo copy.

We met Joe Admire, watta name from the past! My god that feels like ages ago. I guess it was about early 1996, i think I was pregnant w/ Brittany. But anyway, we met up in DC at Mick's old restaurant, 'Fleetwood's'! That was the first person we knew from on-line that we 'met' in person.

Anyone else ever been to Fleetwood's before it went under? There were some cool old pics (of FM/Christine Perfect and others) hanging on the walls. Actually we went a 2nd time w/ friends of ours from DC, our friend Jon stole a beautiful spoon and then presented it to me after we'd left. :laugh: Criminals, we are. But I still have the darn spoon, I love it!!

anyway i digress. We met Joe Admire. I actualy acquired a huge amount of my FM collection from him-- articles etc. Nice guy.

I did not even know that there was such a place. Now, with the internet you know just about everything that goes on in the Mac community. :blob1:

That seems like a long time ago... remember we got to talk to Mick on the phone? He was very gracious! Cool to meet the people I corresponded with by (gasp!) mail, like Joe Admire and others...

I was too shy to talk to Mick, anyway. Yeah, remember all the Mac pen pals and trades on TAPE. lol I don't miss those days at all.

God forbide...

All of this sounds very cool except for the tape trades and what not. It just hit me that I was a mere six years old in 1992. :p

Should I be embarrassed that this is still how I do trades??

Attended a Fleetwood Mac convention in 1990 in Virginia Beach, VA run by the old Rumours fanzine.. We had a lot of fun. At one point there was like 40 people in my room, it was my birthday. One morning we were at the pool and watched housekeeping go into my room. She was in there for 2 hours.

I wasn’t at the “90 Rumours Convention” but I was at the Rumour Convention held 7/6-7/7 in Winston-Salem NC. We had a blast or at least a few others and I had a blast. I have a 2 hour video of the event that Terri Nissbaum sent me. Very professionally edited and mixed. I need to dig it out and transfer it to DVD. We got drunk with Joe Admire in the hotel bar and you folks knowing Joe might be able to picture it? :nod: I wonder what happened to all those fans too.

Joe, Ann Morgan, Diana Bennett, Kathy Mulvaney, Heidi Wallace, and so many others. I still have all the old Fanzines. The Velvet Underground, Dreams, Rumours. Those were the good old days. :blob1: I heard Pete Hass passed away from us. I would imagine all these people are still fans. A few might be embarrassed to get into the fan community again because the last night of the convention got pretty wild. If you mix alcohol, fans and being in an atmosphere like that, those things are supposed to happen. :]

I’m surprised Ann held the convention in Virginia Beach. The NC convention resulted in 2 rooms getting trashed. She told me “Never again.” We lost touch after awhile and last I heard she was in Iowa of all places. Let’s have another convention. I’ll bring some treats. :shrug:

Yeah the 90 convention was one big party. The first night we were there it was around 7:00 pm and all was quiet. So I got the radio I brought with us and proceeded to blast Fleetwood Mac music, poolside. All of a sudden people started to gather. The hotel if I remember correctly was quite large and there were people everywhere.

I wish I could remember more names but Terri :) : was there along with Shelly and her beau, Veronica, Linda, Laura with the award winning smile and beautiful blond hair, Rick, the mother/daughter team, Nicole, Joe, Mike, (if any of you guys are out there...HEY !) It was my birthday that weekend so my friend went and bought a cake (which nobody ate :shocked: ) One morning I woke up and there were bottles and paraphenalia everywhere in my room :woohoo: It was all alot of fun and crazy

I was there at the Red Roof Inn in Austin for that weekend.
I remember meeting Brian Townley there and thinking he was so cute...I remember Barbara McLuin performed at a karaoke bar...I remember the big dinner one night where Bill Gamelson soiled his tie...I remember Chris Nicks showing up and chatting with him...I remember the 3 girls from Georgia and the top hats they wore...somewhere I have some video footage of the convention.

It was such a long time ago, but I remember having fun!

Oh wow, just found this post! I was at both the Virginia Beach, Rumours Convention, and the one in Austin in 92. I can hardly remember a thing from it except for one person who...um...did a singing performance.

What a trip from the past!

Heck, I may have been one of the gals in the top hat! What fun!

Yep, after all the silverware was gone, all they could serve was finger foods, then they got busted by the health department. :lol: :lol:

Pattie, just think! I'm sure we met at the convention...

How tightly woven the community still is amazes me... And I remember having a discussion with Mr. Chris Nicks because he blatantly told me he hates impersonators and people who dress like Stevie. We had about a 10 minute round of it while he was setting up his booth.

Whatever happened to Joe? He and Jeff Kenney are two guys who need a "Where Are They Now" segment!

I got a chance to know a guy by the name of Frank Harding when he lived here in Minnesota in the late 90's, and I know he was there. I've heard some bad things said about him by someone who sent me a pm. Can someone set the record straight :thumbsup: for me about him please?

Joe runs a site devoted to opera gloves (don't ask), & used to hang in alt.callahans on Usenet.

If memory serves, I sat at the dinner table with Joe, and I know I had a drink with him at the bar. I have some stories of that time...but I probably shouldn't post.... :)

I had just started college that year (1992), so I was on that "poor college student" budget. Therefore, I didn't make the trip.

I'm with Lis; we should have another one now. If we could only find someone who doesn't have a job to organize all this! :laugh:

I don't know. I am pretty quiet and I sort of kept to myself.

Keeping to oneself is a good idea, I see, because what gets said gets twisted by some people very quickly.


**edited to add something here, due to an invididual who felt I was biased and getting personal when I made my comment about Chris Nicks hating Stevie impersonators. That would also include myself, like 13 years ago when I was a kid myself practically, in 1992, and he specifically told me he didn't like any of us who dressed up like her as he stated we didn't have individuality. I argued with him for a while saying that dressing up was an outlet for her venues/shows but not necessarily an every day part of living, nor did it mean we didn't have our own lives. I design jewelery, and I do make the crescent moon pendants and cuffs that Stevie used to wear many years ago, but to this certain individual, I have a website that showcases so much more beyond Stevie and Stevie is not my financial support system.

I was the music manager at Hastings when SYW came out.. and yes we recieved several promo copies... we got a special one for in-store play alone... lots of posters and stuff too.

I'm from East Texas... in a location where you can still find authentic Native American jewelry(which is what i'm totally in love with)... but the jewelry out here is limited to certain stones.. and designs.. ya dig?
when I saw your witchblade cuffs I about flipped out of my chair...
I envision these pieces in my head... but now I can actually wear one in the real world..

Thank you! While I follow some niche's because I love Witchblade, too, most of those designs on my site are of my own accord and thought flowing process. It's the circlets which are really the staple. I really enjoy doing what I do...and I feel priviledged to be able to work from home and maintain a lifestyle! :) By the way, I lived in Paris, Tx for a bit...I went to school there for jewelry design. You close to it?
