What is your earliest memory about Fleetwood Mac? When did you learned there was this great band? Was it a song on the radio? a video?

Mine is when my brother bought the "You make loving fun" single, with Gold Dust woman on side B. I already knew that song but didn't know who played it until my. This 45 vynil single maybe still exists at my parents home. I remember the old Warner Bros label, and the description under the title: from the LP "Rumours"" . I remember it sounded cool that title, Rumours. No idea the phenomenom it would be later

My earliest memory probably was seeing the Little Lies video on VH1. It seemed like they showed the video all the time and I remember thinking, "Wait a minute. Are there two blond haired women in that video?" Not very many bands have two women.

I've always know about the band. My parents played them all the time. Mom even put headphones on her belly when she was pregnant with me and played Rumours and Tusk.

I guess the first real memory I can remember was watching MTV and seeing the Seven Wonders video. I never was into watching cartoons....MTV was my choice. I guess everything before that is a blur.

I was about 6, in the back of my parents' Sportabout car, and I heard Rhiannon, and I remember my dad singing along to it (he always sings along to stuff on the radio, to this day... :p ) I remember liking the chorus a lot. But I don't think I knew who they were..... but I do remember 2 yrs later in 1977 when GYOW was all over the radio, and I asked my dad to turn it up. And after that incredible ending I remember the dj saying 'That was Fleetwood Mac' and my dad repeating enthusiastically 'Fleetwood Mac!' and I thought that was a really cool name for a group.

Then of course several years went by until I was struck by the advent of MTV in 1982, and you could see the faces of those people that made the music!!!! The first time I saw Hold Me I nearly passed out, I was like "This band has guys AND girls in it? How cool is that?! And how beautiful is that guy w/ the white hat?!" :laugh: That was when the true obsession began, I suppose, at age 11-12.

One more thing, I was going through some old photo albums w/ my daughter last night and I found the funniest picture of me in Jr High, wearing my beloved FMac grey t-shirt. I have to scan it and post it, although the flip hair-do and the big glasses are rather embarrassing....

I know I heard their songs on classic rock radio, which my parents played all the time... But the first time I was actually aware of Fleetwood Mac was when my mom came home with the green album....I guess I was about 8. Been a fan ever since.

I knew of Stevie Nicks in May 2001. I was getting ready for school one morning and heard this voice. Every Day was on Vh1. I dropped in front of the TV and was in awe. After school, I did some research, went to Amazon, played a few songs from GH. I realized that I knew these songs...SYLM, Gypsy, Little Lies, Dreams, etc. I remember being 3 or 4, dancing around, and singing along to them.

It was number 1 when I was a teen and it was playing on the radio ALL the time--AM radio, no less (FM--the radio frequency--was for old fogies back in the day--it played muzak). I thought the song was completely creepy but I got used to hearing it all the time and when I heard it again during the Dance--I immediately recalled the smell of Coppertone suntan lotion;-) And, the funny thing is, I can see myself in these white short-shorts and a bright green halter walking to the water. Very odd memory.
I also remember seeing them on the Midnight Special (I used to watch Friday nights with my grandma--of all folks--she was a very cool lady). I think that was where I got my impression that Stevie never smiled much--because I remember when I saw the Dance and saw her smile--I was thinking "with a smile like that, why would she ever have her serious face on!"
And I also remember being somewhat surprised to find they sang GYOW and a song of Christines (can't remember which)--and thinking--this can't all be from FM--they all sound so different.

I'm only 16, so I haven't really been a fan for all that long... My mom has always been a fan of Fleetwood Mac though, so I pretty much grew up with it. I was in the car one day and heard Edge of Seventeen on the radio and I really wanted to know who it was by...My mom said she didn't really know and said Fleetwood Mac or something. I went home and took The Dance CD and listened to every song trying to find EO17. Well, obviously I didn't find it. But I fell in love with some of the songs on The Dance. I couldn't stop listening to it. Then the next day, my dad took me out and I got Timespace so I could listen to Edge of Seventeen, and fell in love with Stevie's songs too! :D :D

I'd heard their songs not realizing who they were, and heard the name "Fleetwood Mac" without connecting it to any of of those songs. It wasn't until I bought the Dance in 1997 for "Silver Springs" that I realized all sorts of songs that I loved were by this group, and that the group even had as a member Stevie Nicks who I knew from the song "Talk to Me." And I've loved them ever since!

I remember riding on a 1000 mile trip, to visit family, when Rhiannon was at it's peak. I loved it. As a matter of fact, we went and bought the 45, and gave it to my older cousin who lived there.........and never thought any more about FM(hey, I was little). As fate would have it, about three years later, my cousin was having great difficulty getting along with her step-father, so she moved to IN to finish high school living with us. Well, along came her collection of 8 tracks :lol: . Well, Rumours was one of them...I became OBSESSED! I spent hours on end in my bedroom, playing every vocal line on trumpet(bet Mom loved that!) I eventually pulled a guitar from the closet, that I'd given up on learning a couple years earlier, and bought the Rumours chord book, and taught myself to play. Obsessed doesn't begin to describe how much I loved FM. Three 8 tracks, 2 cassettes, an album(all completely WORN OUT), and finally a CD, before I was satiated. Rumours literally changed my life, completely.....

btw, the Rhiannon 45 came back to me. I still have it.

My earliest memory is hearing Say You Love Me on the radio as a child, but not knowing that it was Fleetwood Mac. I also heard songs like Dreams, GYOW, and Don't Stop without connecting them with the band. I remember going through some of my dad's tapes and finding either a Rumours or White Album tape...I'm not sure not. When I really discovered them conciously was in either late 2002 or early 2003 when I was looking for a song with my name in it ------------------> Sara!

So here we are 2 years later and I have 600 and some posts :D

Same here - for YEARS! After I saw The Dance, I was hooked - I remember thinking "hey, I know that song...that one too...OMG, that's THEIR song?" Hubby still makes fun of me to this day - "you didn't even know who they WERE a few years ago, you know!" Yeah, I know...

My very earliest memory of Stevie was watching the Stand Back vid on MTV. Thank God my babysitter turned us onto this "cool new cable music channel" (which even though we'd had cable for a couple of years, me & my bro had no clue about! Of course, I was only 8! :p I had no clue she was in Mac, though.

Earliest clear Mac memory? 1987. I distinctly remember hearing Little Lies repeatedly, it was everywhere! I recall sitting in my friend Renee's bedroom listening to her crappy little radio every day & that tune would come on every time. I remember the album cover (I think her sister had the cassette, or maybe a poster of it.) I also remember that I preferred Seven Wonders over LL, BL or Everywhere. :)

I was with my Grandparents for Christmas 1997 and they were watching The Dance on tv. I remember loving Christine and thought she was really underrated. "Everywhere" was the first Fleetwood Mac song I fell in love with. (The Dance version). I also remember thinking that Stevie Nicks looked drunk how she was swaying around and making all those hand motions during songs like Dreams. I guess I didn't realize that she was hamming up all those witchy gestures! I also remember not thinking Stevie's voice was too special and thinking Christine had the most unique, amazing voice of all time. Now, I am obviously much more of a Stevie fan. I never disliked Stevie- I just didn't connect with her until I was a tad older. Once I got TISL I was hooked. The rest, as they say, is history!

I listened to AM radio all the time as a tyke. I heard "Rhiannon" & "Say You Love Me" but didn't know what they were called & thought nothing about them. My favorite songs were "Come & Get Your Love" by Redbone, "Indian Sunset" by Elton John, "Brother Louie" by Stories & other great pop hits. If I knew the name "Fleetwood Mac," I probably thought it was some sort of country group.

I went to a Fleetwood Mac concert & didn't like it much at all. If I thought beforehand they were country, seeing them onstage made me think they were heavy rockers, drug addicts & hippie killers like Charles Manson's gang.

My memory's a little foggy, but I grew to like them pretty quickly, & my fanaticism -- with all the magazines & chasing them down & buying photos & all that nonsense -- just grew & grew.

They played "Dreams" on the school bus & I hated it, but I loved "Go Your Own Way."

I fremember how I became a fan. It was the summer of 1997 and a station in Toronto called City Tv had a weekly rock video countdown of the 30 biggest albums of the week and The Dance sat at number 7 on the charts (Jewel had the top spot) and the video they played was Silver Springs. I liked the song but for some reason I never bothered to do anything about it. (Research the band and check out their albums). Then a few years later( 2001 I think) My dad got talking about music and before I knew it we were talking about FM. I got the dance used for 10.00 at a second hand store and the rest as we say is history. One thing though that I have found with any person or persons I discover is that usually it takes a while to get the info on the abands albums history /aalbums etc right. For example for the longest time before I had Tango or Mirage I kept thinking that Big Love was on the Mirage album for whatever reason. Now I know of course that it isn't. I think what endears me to this band is that no matter what happens the band manages to carry on and make music that speaks to the heart and soul. Even on the crappiest of albums there is always a gem. I mean can someone honestly say that on any Fm or solo venture by any band memeber that there isn't at leat one great song on the album?

I never get tired of telling this story..I heard Sara on my way to work one day and I about drove off the road, the song was so beautiful.

I got to work and asked one of my co-workers who sang Sara and I was told "Fleetwood Mac".

On my dinner break, I went to the closest record store and bought Tusk.

I've been a fan ever since.

I discovered 'Rhiannon" and the rest of the White Album and Rumours later as I worked backward getting the albums.

I remember hearing Rhiannon in 1975 or 76. I was in 5th grade. I really loved that song and I knew that someone named Fleetwood Mac sang it and I thought the name was a guy.
I also liked Say You Love Me from that era and thought that it was odd because neither song sounded like it was sung by a guy. :laugh:

Fast forward to June 1977 and a song called Dreams was on the radio all the time. It was a bit too slow for me but that voice just did something for me.
I was looking through one of my Mom's magazines at the time and I saw an ad for the Rumours album. Keep in mind that there was no such thing as MTV back then and I did not know about a show called Don Kirshner's Rock Concert at the time. I saw my very first photo of the band called Fleetwood Mac. I still did not know which one he was :lol: but I was very intrigued by them. I also found an article in another of Mom's magazines about the band and I really got confused when I saw the name Stevie Nicks. :confused:
I found out that this SN person sang Dreams. I also used to see the Rumours album as #1 in the local newspaper. I had to investigate. I went to my local dept store and looked at a copy of Rumours. The woman on the front in black was the most amazing thing that I had ever seen. I turned the cover over and I saw her again and I was in love. Um well not THAT kind of love. ;)
The rest of the band looked really fun, too.
I ended up getting the White Album first because I liked a lot of the songs on it and it came out before Rumours so I guess that I was a bit anal back then.
I went crazy for this album. I loved every song on it. I ended up buying Rumours a month later. I remember that photo collage insert that came in the LP and I was just so intrigued by these people. I just felt a spiritual connection to them. I thought to myself 'Wow, I just bought 2 LPs from a 'real" rock band. No more teeny pop for me."
I ended up finding out that they were coming to Providence a bit too late and I missed them. :mad:
I swore to this day that I would never miss them if they were coming to my area again. I really think that that experience was the catalyst from my whole following the band on the SYW tour. The internet is a wonder thing! I wish that it had been around when I was young.
I did get to see them in Providence in 1979. Yes, I am still peeved that they did not come here at all for the SYW tour. :mad:

I am sure that I am forgetting a lot of stuff but that is basically it.

in 1987, when I watched Lindsey floating around in Big Love video. :thumbsup: I remembered clearly his hair especially.

Mom had just bought the green album. I'm guessing I was about 11. (late '80's?) I was so embarrassed because she was playing that wreched music in the car when I had a friend with me. Then Sara came on. And I remember later asking who that lady was singing that song. I was in love with that song and voice. Anyhow, fast-forward 5 years. I was 16, and in the car with the same friend, her boyfriend was driving. I was going through his CD case, and there it was... the green album. I asked him to put it in and that was it! I remember when I left from my friends that night, I went straight to my mom's work, hoping to hell she still had that tape in the car. Naturally, she didn't, so I was out to buy it the next day.

My parents had "Rumours" and the "White Album." They played both of them a lot. I remember my Mom would sing along with the album, and I would ask her to play "Rumours" (the album with the ballet dancer on the cover---that is what I called it as a child) :o . I remember my Mom telling me that they were Fleetwood Mac, and I remember dancing around to "I Don't Want to Know" in my parents' living room. These are some of my favorite childhood memories. :)

I must've been 8? I remember my mother bought the green Greatest Hits LP. Fell in love with Gypsy. From the first time I heard that album I fell in love with the voice on Sara, Gypsy, Dreams, Rhiannon.. but I didn't really know who they were or who "she" was until much later.

Around the same time (maybe a year later) I also remember becoming aware of Stevie Nicks as a solo artist when Rooms On Fire came out. For a long time I thought of it as the red videoclip because I remembered a lot of red being in it. I only saw it once or twice but I loved that song too.

I'm not sure if I immediately made the connection that it was the same
the same woman on the green album and in the red video.

My earliest Fleetwood Mac memory is of Little Lies, hearing it on the radio, seeing the video...my sister liked them - she's ten years older than I....

So when cd players were just starting to gain momentum - she took a whole paycheck from her job and bought one - along with? Fleetwood Mac's greatest hits lol - so I remember seeing the green cased cd long ago - but being the young child I was - I prefered New Kids on the Block and Debbie Gibson to anything my sister listened to lol...:eek:

Well, I just started posting here and I thought I'd jump in on this on. My ealiest FM memories are...
Hearing Little Lies and Everywhere on the radio...over and over. Then when I used to get an allowance, I went to the record store and sard TOSOTM and I had NO idea who Stevie was, but I fell in love with the red dress, so I bought the tape and I loved all the songs. That started my FM obsession.

The first time I'd ever heard of Fleetwood Mac was when I was like 10, and WPLR here in CT played them as their "6 at 6" artist. Somehow I knew that Stevie Nicks was the singing woman's name (probably asked my mom "who is this?" or something), and I really liked her voice. The rest is history!

Not really knowing it, when I was in the car being driven to pre school and then elementary school I was hearing the classics from the White Album and Rumours.

When I knew was in 1982 when my neighbor told me about them and Hold Me was getting major radio play so I went out and got Mirage (awesome cover on that album). Then I saw the Hold Me video and whoa baby~~LB melt me like the sun!!! :nod: :) :laugh: :D :thumbsup:

When I'd heard that Peter Green had left John Mayall's Bluesbreakers to form his own band...which was to be called "Fleetwood Mac". First "Fleetwood Mac" song I ever heard?

I think my earliest memory of seeing them was me sitting on the floor of the kitchen, looking up at the TV and seeing the Little Lies video. I distinctly remember seeing Chris in her hat at the piano.

Fan-wise, I was watching MTV the day the Dance aired and there was this big wacky thing where there was like a huge party or something and people were dressed as Lindsey with huge fros or something (or I may be making this up, who knows) and I was thinking "Ugh. Hippies."

And then I watch, and it gets to GDW and I lorve it. I go out to the backyard and ask my mom what the Fleetwood Mac song with dragons & women is, and she doesn't know. For my birthday that year, I got the Dance CD and was mad that the song wasn't on it, and later I ordered Rumours from one of those music catalog things and it's there. Yay.

And then I forgot about them for a long time. Then around 2001 I heard Stand Back on the radio and Mom's all, "That's Stevie Nicks!" Around this time, I had been getting back into Rumours and all that, so I was all, "Oh no it's not. It's not witchy!" -_-

So then I download it. Then I download another. And another. Then I go to the NicksFix and find out about Trouble In Shangri-La, which I thought was a videogame or something when I first saw the popup for it. I did some hunting around and foudn out it was Stevie's newest album, etc. And my first Stevie album. :)

It was the summer of '78, I was 14 and babysitting for my sister & her husband & of course the minute they leave I turn on the stereo, nice & loud & notice this album cover sitting there, it was "Rumours" of course & the album was on the turntable & I thought "what's this"? So I sat on the floor against these massive 4 foot high speakers (remember those?), listening to this very unique voice, staring or should I say studying the album sleeve thinking who is this "BEAUTIFUL" girl? (It was Stevie of course) and for some reason "Second Hand News" stands out (maybe because it was the first song on the album, or maybe it was "won't you lay me down in the tall grass and let me do my stuff" part, hehe, I was only 14). I also remember hearing "Dreams" on the radio all that summer and thinking, ooooohhhhhh, this is Fleetwood Mac!

DREAMS--I remember being about 15 and I bought the WHOLE Rumours LP just for the song Dreams. I played Dreams about 1000 times (that voice) on my Mother’s “console stereo” I never even listen to a single other song on the album! :eek:

When I got my first apartment when I was 19, right after the move, all my old albums turned up and I popped on Rumours—and let it play. I couldn’t believe that all those songs on there I already knew, and the ones I didn’t, I loved.

But the REAL-DEAL had to be the “Gypsy” video, that’s when I went bonkers for Stevie Nicks. It was like a 10-year musical-Stevie-binge. :] I bought everything I could get my hands on. I bought the Worthington photos, the (piano) music books—everything. I even bought a piano and taught myself how to play Stevie’s songs. It was hand-to-mouth back then (no internet/eBay).

My first concert… (mid-80’s?), Wild Heart Tour—Philadelphia. I swear I have never seen a better concert in my life. Stevie came out W-I-L-D, in a red shawl, and just started twirling like a million times (I was in the 3rd row :blob2: ) I almost had a Wild-Heart Attack!

I think it's really cool how so many of us first discovered FM with one song (before there were videos!), then tied them all together later on. I remember hearing Rhiannon when I was 5 or 6 and loving it! I also remember my mom playing some of Rumours on the ol' turntable. I loved "Don't Stop." Then I remember an advertisement on the radio for a concert playing over and over again with the beat of "Tusk" going on and on in the background--a song I also loved. But, like some of you guys, I didn't realize they were all members of the same band until the Mirage/MTV era, when I first saw Hold Me and was swept away by Lindsey! I think that's why it remains my fav FM song. And so the rest is history. And, dammit, I wish my mom was as cool as I am...I've already taken my daughter to 2 shows with me! (she's 7)

BTW, Amber, did you steal my cat? I have a Siamese kitten that looks just like the one in your sig! :D
