Please pray for snow!!!

There is an actual chance that Southeast Texas may have a white Christmas! With the Arctic front moving south this week, the weather folks are predicting "snow showers" for the Houston area on Friday into Saturday.

I've NEVER had a white Christmas, even when I lived in east Tennessee when I was young. I'd really like to see one. So, if you have a spare moment, please pray, do a snow dance, stick a pin in a weather voodoo doll -- however you can help.

Even if it's an inch of snow -- that's enough to pump up the ole innertubes and sled down our local seawall!!! (Besides, it's hilarious around here when we get even mildly icy conditions. People down here don't even know what snow tires are. Plus, we desperately need a good freeze to kill off the mOtHeRf*CkInG mosquitoes.)

LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW! LET IT SNOW!!!!!

amber 12-21-2004 05:23 PM

okay, i'll do my little snow dance for you! I was gonna do one anyway. :D
Which color shawl do you wear for this one? *twirl*

WelshWitchPMD 12-21-2004 05:28 PM

You can keep the snow in Texas, too. I don't want it here in Rhode Island.

Livia 12-21-2004 06:03 PM

Dontcha just love Texas weather? Nearly 80 today, I turned on the AC at work when I came back from lunch. It won't get out of the 40's tomorrow and we may have snow flurries on Christmas! :p

HomerMcvie 12-21-2004 06:12 PM

Geez, we're expecting 6-10" tomorrow. I wish I could give it to ya!

Lala 12-21-2004 06:12 PM

Cool. I hope you guys get your white Christmas. Here in southern Alberta we suffe from many brown Christmases :(

pianogirl04 12-21-2004 06:15 PM

They've had us for a wintry mix on Christmas Eve for a week now. It was so warm today I could have washed the dog in my swimsuit. I'd love to have my first white Christmas, but I'm worried that it might turn into an ice storm. Perfect time to have one, I guess, but we're anything but prepared for one...

I know what you mean. (Partly because I'm pretty much right by ya!) I was walking around outside today thinking, Why am I not wearing a tank top and shorts? And it's the 21st of December! It's crazy.

Hillary

wondergirl9847 12-21-2004 06:32 PM

Eeee!!!

It's crazy that us Southerners are excited about snow, but we are! :blob1: They are saying flurries tomorrow and Thursday. Looks to be sunny, but very cold on Christmas though in North Texas. :( Bah, humbug!! LOL

I'll never forget the Valentines Day "snowstorm" of 2003. It was amazing!!

sara1998 12-21-2004 07:37 PM

I say bring on the snow! We're expecting that same front to hit us tonight, early tomorrow morning, and we're expecting up to 6 inches.

Sorry, HomerMcVie! I'm doing the snow dance for Texas and Indiana!

ontheEdgeof17 12-21-2004 08:18 PM

I'll pray for snow in TX, if you pray for no snow (or ice) in WV.

The snow's okay...I just find it more depressing when it's all nasty outside. At least I drive 4WD. Today was GREAT! 47 and sunny!!! That's my kind of winter weather.

I woke up this morning to snow on the ground and it fell alot all morning. It's quit now, but everything still has a dusting on it.

I took this pic of my dog's paw prints in the snow. Hee!

pianogirl04 12-22-2004 02:12 PM

It's... raining. And warm enough for shorts right now.... hopefully after this front comes through it'll cool down. They still have us for a wintry mix Friday... *crosses fingers*

Aren't you in Indy? Surely to gawd you didn't get jipped! Looking out my B'ton window, it looks like about 8" on my deck table. :distress:
Now, I've gotta bundle up, and shovel my sidewalks. Not that I couldn't walk thru it, but if you pack it down by walking on it, it stays there forever!

Nixxxed 12-22-2004 02:48 PM

Thanks, everyone for your thoughts! However, they just changed our forecast for Friday and took out almost all chances of precipitation. It's just gonna be cold and damp and muddy from all the rain we've had this week (which means I'll be stuck in the house all day with toy-crazed 4-10 year olds  ).

I did meditate for those of you who DIDN'T want snow. However, it looks like Indiana and WV (and the rest) are still gonna get blasted.

God hates me. :D Maybe in my next lifetime I'll have more pull.

Say it ain't so..... :distress:

Right now it is 64 and sunny. I'm hoping to get this storm over with so I can go back to my place for New Years.

Probably. From what i've heard, God rewards people who talk about having "pull" with him.
sorry you didn't get snow. I didn't either. course, it hasn't really snowed here for about 100 years or something, so.

I know what you mean. It's like that here even if snow is remotely in the forecast. Forget buying bread or milk. The shelves are completely empty! It's like people think they're gonna be snowed in for WEEKS instead of one friggin day, and God forbid you be without those essential items. I say stock up on beer/wine, chips/dip, and chocolate chip cookies and ride out the huge blizzard (that consists of 1-2 inches at the most!).

Just drive by a Walmart and take a look at the parking lot if you're ever in the south during a snow forecast. It'll crack you up! :p

Yep, pretty much :p

And I work in a hospital, so I REALLY love those emergency weather phone calls in the middle of the night---YOUHAVETOGETHEREFAST,ORYOUWON'TBEABLETOMAKEITTOWORKINTHEMORNING, SO THE WHOLE ENTIRE PLACE MAY HAVE TO SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY!!

I got one of those calls on New Year's morning a couple of years ago...after having some (um, lots of) wine. I was like, ya know what? I don thin I can make it right now either, thanks though!

AH!!! Poor Bloomington... seems like you all always gets the bad weather. I didn't have **** this morning. But it's snowing now, and now their talking up to 15 inches! :blob2: I'm in Brownsburg, in Hendricks County, and the further I went southeast this morning to work, the worse it was. I was doing 30 mph. on 70.... I was not a happy driver...

He must love the crap out of me - we were supposed to get 1 or 2 inches here (which to us is like a light drizzle :p ) and ended up with almost a foot! Well, what do I expect, I live in friggin' Buffalo. At least my dog had fun in it.

estranged4life 12-24-2004 08:20 PM

I'm bummed...

what lil' snow we received melted yesterday...I hope it snows more this winter, It sucks never having a snowy Christmas Eve/And or Day :(

 Christmas has been cancelled, or at least postponed... 22 inches at my aunt's house. She called today, and said they thought the roads were too bad for most to make it, so Christmas is off.
You want snow? You can have every damned flake of it!
Not trying to bum anyone out, but snow sucks! I've got the proof right here.

Sorry dude, that really sucks. I really don't mind snow at all UNTIL it starts to affect my life - mainly bad driving, or things being cancelled. I hope you find a way to have a nice holiday anyway. Have a drink & keep warm! :wavey:

Totally OT - 1000 posts - Merry Christmas to me!

Nixxxed 12-24-2004 09:03 PM

THANK YOU

to everyone who prayed that I'd have a White Christmas. It worked! Well, sorta. We've had snow flurries here on and off all day, and it's finally cold enough to stick. So, at the very least we'll have a White Christmas Eve. Now, I'll be awake all night waiting to see if we can go

SLEDDING!!! :blob2: :blob2: :blob2:

FYI -- I'm about 2 miles north of Galveston, 30 miles south of Houston, right on the Texas coast. In the pics I've attached, you can see that this really is the tropics. Nothing like tropical foliage covered in pure white icy goodness!

OK -- now I'm off to change into some dry socks, and I'm heading back outside!!!

HAPPY HOLIDAZE EVERYONE!!!

- Chuck "misses snow so bad" L.

I'm still crossing my fingers but I don't think we're going to get any of the white stuff. :distress: I see green on the radar over Lake Charles and Lafayette and it's been below freezing all day, so maybe there's a chance...

We didn't drain the pool this year and to keep the sand filter from freezing we run it when it gets below freezing -- it's been running for over two days straight now. I just hope it doesn't stop working. Anybody wanna go swimming?

My pool's winter cover is held in place with sandbags. Yesterday, the weight of all this 18" of snow we got, pulled the cover in, along with 12-14 60lb sandbags, in the deep end, of course. I have NO idea what to do.........I guess I'll just have to wait until late spring to fish it all out. I can think of no other way to get them out, other than waiting til it's almost warm enough to start swimming, get in and freeze my ass off, and carry them to the shallow end.
It's -7 right now, with 18" on the ground....it's a winter wonderland. :distress:

Sure, as long as we skinny-dip! We can start the Southern Polar Bears Club, and show all those folks up north who jump in the lake on New Year's Day (?) how it's really done!!!

All the weather forecasters in Houston are projecting the precipitation to move right over the top of us, then move out into the Gulf. But what the hell do they really know, anyway? :p I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!

Oh my goodness, I feel for you. Is it an inground pool? Having to move a dozen 60 lb sandbags to the shallow end would be enough to make me drain it, haul them out, and refill it... if it's inground I don't think it would be that hard, but with an above ground there's a chance the walls could collapse (that happened to us last year when we put a new liner in -- not a good time). Normally we drain the water down to just below the skimmer and then we unhook the plumbing and bring the pump and the sand filter inside so they don't freeze and crack, but in the past few years we've just kept it running when it's cold. I hope your plumbing's okay with the kind of temperatures you guys are having...

Have at it! I stuck my hand in the skimmer the other day and that water is like ICE. I've got six dozen cookies and an apple pie when you guys are done...

For the past week or so they've been saying this cold air from the Gulf is going to come up into southern LA and it might come up as far as the middle of the state, where I am, so here's hoping...
