Another reason to not smoke
Smoking Slows Healing
Fri Dec 17,11:46 PM ET FRIDAY, Dec. 17 (HealthDayNews) -- A new study outlines the way that cigarette smoke may delay the formation of healing tissue on wounds. Previous research demonstrated that cigarette smoke slows wound healing and increases the risk of scarring. In this new study, researchers at the University of California, Riverside, used mice and human cell cultures to examine the effect of cigarette smoke on fibroblasts -- cells that migrate to wounds to create healing tissue. Fibroblasts play a vital role in tissue repair and remodeling. The study found that while cigarette smoke doesn't kill fibroblasts, it damages them and impairs their ability to move into the wound area. Instead, the fibroblasts build up on the margins of the wound. "Taken together, our results suggest that tobacco smoke may delay wound repair because of the inability of the fibroblasts to migrate into the wounded area, leading to an accumulation of these cells at the edge of the wound, thus preventing the formation of healing tissue," researcher Manuela Martins-Green said in a prepared statement. "Furthermore, the smoke-induced survival of cells that should have died, coupled to the smoke-induced decrease in cell migration activity, causes a buildup of scar tissue, thereby contributing to fibrosis and excess scarring," Martins-Green said. "We're now trying to isolate the component or components in smoke that inhibit cell migration and block cell death," Martins-Green said. |
Not to mention that it stinks and leaves a nasty brown film on things.
I live with a smoker and it's not very pleasant but I have no choice. |

I gave up smoking cigarettes 2 years ago but smokers don’t offend me. Besides we all stink. Scratch a little hiney and smell those fingers, but don’t get hooked on that thang. :o All kinds of things leave a film on surfaces. Candles, food, incense, and your breath. If you don’t floss you have more gross crap living in your mouth then ya do in uranis. Do the white glove thing and I’ll bet 75% of you live filthy?
Patti try getting a can of Ozium spray, or a bucket of Ozo gel. The spray is powerful stuff. The gel actually absorbs the odor and bonds it to oils and resins. 1 gel bucket lasts a looong time. Both have no fragrance added and are safe for pets and plants of all kinds. Sold at Home Depot and Lowes. In an average lifetime we swallow 3 spiders while sleeping. Now that’s gross. |
Man don’t ya just hate the mail that smells like tuna fish? Damn horny women.

this is my third day without a cig. I was intermittently chain smoking for the last 2 weeks, including drinking, and on Friday, my throat said "no more, bitch!" And so i've had a sore throat and been congested for past 3 days. It's like i almost have a cold. But i don't feel that sick, which is the good part. Just my throat hurts, coughing, and runny nose, with lower energy. Anyway, the main good part is, i haven't had one for 3 days...babble..... :D |

Yeah the gel is great! It’s common knowledge among people growing thing’s illegal  You could build a cheap carbon scrubber but that’s a whole different story.
