What one song .....?
What one song/lyric describes a moment of your life or time of your life?
A while ago at kareoke , someone sang The Needle the Damage Done. The line, "but every junkie is like the setting sun"....boy.... I guess getting too personal is just not right on a fun board...but that line! |
Cool thought Janet...
Let's see. The first things that come to my mind... I've been dazed and confused for so long it's true. And in the end, the love you take is equal to the love you make. WHICH I feel that our Chris slightly echoes by, And I wish you all the love in the world but most of all I wish it from myself... AND of course Mr.Sumner, When the world is coming down, you make the best of what's still around. Also, She tells you she's an orphan, after you've met her family. OK, I'll REALLY end this by shamelessly showing my 80's upbringing, They whisper promises in the dark. And of course reiterate my fundamental love of the Fab Four... Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream. No one I think is in my tree. And perhaps the best of all, She loves you, YEAH,YEAH,YEAH. :)celestenadia |
The entire song "Gypsy" was me graduating Law School and not having a clue what was to become of me. I could not find a job I liked and was breaking up a relationship - I came to the slow realization that I would have to leave my beloved New Orleans.
So I'm back, to the velvet underground Back to the floor, that I love To a room with some lace and paper flowers Back to the gypsy that I was To the gypsy... that I was And it all comes down to you Well, you know that it does Well, lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice Ah, and it lights up the night And you see your gypsy You see your gypsy To the gypsy that remains faces freedom with a little fear I have no fear, I have only love And if I was a child And the child was enough Enough for me to love Enough to love She is dancing away from me now She was just a wish She was just a wish And a memory is all that is left for you now You see your gypsy You see your gypsy Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice And it all comes down to you And it all comes down to you Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice And it all comes down to you I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes And it all comes down to you I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes And it all comes down to you I still see your bright eyes, bright eyes (She was just a wish) (She was just a wish) And it all comes down to you Lightning strikes, maybe once, maybe twice And it all comes down to you So - in my head, I changed the she to a he and it was suddenly my life (how dramatic  ) Also, Outside the Rain was me when I went from like 190 pounds to over 300 pounds and then began the weight loss (which continues to this day   ) That whole: So you're still lonely You say that it's been forever Maybe you never knew me - Maybe you thought that I'd never change - but You know I'm changing - You're wrong - And it's been like dying - No love's that hard to find - And I'm tired of - I'm tired of trying was all about that for me  Finally: Led Zeppelin's Fool in the Rain: Well there’s a light in your eye that keeps shining Like a star that can’t wait for the night I hate to think I’ve been blinded baby Why can’t I see you tonight? And the warmth of your smile starts a-burnin’ And the thrill of your touch gives me fright And I’m shaking so much, really yearning Why don’t you show up, make it all right? Yeah, it’s all right. And if you promised you’d love so completely And you said you would always be true You swore that you would never leave me, baby: What ever happened to you? And you thought it was only in movies As you wish all your dreams would come true It ain’t the first time believe me, baby I’m standin here feeling blue Yeah I’m blue Now I will stand in the rain on the corner I’ll watch the people go shuffling downtown Another ten minutes no longer And then I’m turning around The clock on the wall’s moving slower My heart it sinks to the ground And the storm that I thought would blow over Clouds the light of the love that I found Now my body is starting to quiver And the palms of my hands getting wet I’ve got no reason to doubt you baby, It’s all a terrible mess I’ll run in the rain till I’m breathless When I’m breathless I’ll run till I drop, hey The thoughts of a fool’s kind of careless I’m just a fool waiting on the wrong block, oh yeah Light of the love that I found... was essentially my high school experience  |
"I have no fear, I have only love
And if I was a child And the child was enough Enough for me to love Enough to love She is dancing away from me now She was just a wish She was just a wish And a memory is all that is left for you now" Yep. :o |
Hmmm...
currently I would say the following lyrics:
"F*ck your power trip and F*ck your attitude and F*ck your bloated ego too F*ck your history, Your tragedy, Your misery But most of all...F*ck you" Brian j. |
The lyrics:
If you forgive me my ferocity, I won't forget your sweetness. Pull down the night, lay it before me. Gratify my head with curses. Night recalls tranquility. A curtain falls and sets it free. Darkness calls eternity. Down silent halls the shadows flee. I had just graduated with my bachelors and was a wreck, financially and emotionally. |
Of course I can't pick one.
First off, "Gate and Garden"--the whole thing. Also, "Look at all these losers; you find them everywhere. They're f*cked up and annoying but somehow you seem to care." -The Cardigans (reminds me of my high school experience) "Love is a word that some entertain. If you find it, you have won the game." -Stevie Most of Stevie's "Juliet" "I can't feel bad about the way I am." -Stevie again "There are no doubts I feel the strain Of all my senses yearning Over and over again... It's not important to wonder why What is just is no more to imply This simple thought repeating Over and over again" (yeah, Stevie again) "I'm old enough to love you from afar...too trusting, yes, but then women usually are." "The faces of love have changed, turning the pages. I have changed, oh but you, you remain ageless." All of Ani DiFranco's "She Says." "I never remember anything except for those things which I never forget--you know there's no in between" -Ani DiFranco, "Names, Dates, and Times" "Everything I do I do for the first time" Ani DiFranco, "Born a Lion" "If you're gonna do it, overdo it-- That's how you know you're alive" -Ani DiFranco, "Used to You" All of Ani's "Untouchable Face," "Wish I May," and "Slide" "Nothing's so loud As hearing when we lie The truth is not kind And you've said neither am I But the air outside so soft is saying everything Everything..." -Toad the Wet Sprocket, "All I Want" "Men go crazy in congregations; they only get better one by one." -Sting, "All This Time" I'll probably think of more later. What a cool thread! Hillary |
I want everything and nothing at the same time...
I want what's yours and I want what's mine.. I want you but I'm not giving in this time....Goodbye to you.... -- Michelle Branch - lol...this really applied to a relationship I was having a super super hard time saying goodbye to  |

I just got dumped (stupid fool, I know). I feel like this lyric from Kelly Clarkson's Because of You.
"How can my heart break, when it wasn't even whole to start with?" |
I'll remember you... too clearly
But, I'll survive another day Conversations to share when there's no one there I'd imagine what you'd say... I'll see you in another life, now baby I'll see you in my dreams But, when I reach across the galaxy I will miss your company Company I'll be... looking for company Look and listen through the years Some day you may hear me Crying- I'll be crying... Crying for company So, now you're going on to live your life You say we meet each other now and then But, we'll never, never be the same And I know I'll never have the same chance again Oh, no, not like you- not like you I'll see you in another life, now baby I'll free you in my dreams But, when I reach across the galaxy I will miss your company Company I'll be... looking for company Look and listen through the years Some day you may hear me Crying- I'll be crying... Crying for company Listen to me- I'm still crying for company Company.... oh, looking... For company..... |

Well, this would accompany my dark hair photo in the picture thread:
The roses in the window box Have tilted to one side Everything about this house Was born to grow and die Oh it doesn't seem a year ago To this very day You said I'm sorry honey If I don't change the pace I can't face another day And love lies bleeding in my hand Oh it kills me to think of you with another man I was playing rock and roll and you were just a fan But my guitar couldn't hold you So I split the band Love lies bleeding in my hands I wonder if those changes Have left a scar on you Like all the burning hoops of fire That you and I passed through You're a bluebird on a telegraph line I hope you're happy now Well if the wind of change comes down your way girl You'll make it back somehow Which would go hand in had with this: The bright light is lying down The earth and the sea and the sky Is at rest with the ocean And the days go by They go into the seas that have no shores Haunted by that same closed door Looking up at skies on fire Leaving nothing left of us To discover And the planets of the universe Go their way Not astounded by the sun or the moon Or by the day You and I will simply disappear Out of sight But I'm afraid soon there'll be No light No doubt, no pain Come ever again, well Let there be light in this lifetime In the cool, silent moments of the nighttime We will never change again The way that we are changing 2001 was rough. I'll post a happy one later. :) |

Thanks for thinking of me. :o I've only dumped one guy, but he was an abusive mo-fo. |
Sweet Girl would basicaly be the story of my life...
"come down here for a minute..." "I chose to dance across the stages of the world..." "Sometimes even I am allowed to fall..." Also Silver Girl, "She was a Silver Girl, Lost in a High Tech World...She would've perferred the last generation..." "Insane far beyond her years...She's a wild adventurer" And Gypsy, although oddly enough I could be either side of that song, the gypsy leaving, or the girl watching the gypsy leave... |

Great Topic!
Landslide- "Can I sail through the changing ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life, I don't know?" This applies when I moved away from home for school. Bella Donna- Really just the name Donna cause thats my mothers name so it reminds me of her. Shelby Lynne's If I Were Smart- "If I were smart, I wouldn't have a heart." There is a ton more songs, but those are the first that came to my head. Brit |
Beautiful Child is tightly connected with a tough moment I've gone through at the start of this year. I was in the middle, for a number of reasons, of a very deep sense of loss, and to listen to that song has been very soothing, because, even in a totally different context, was able to give words to what I was feeling.
Romy |
Beauty and The Beast...why? Because I feel like I was an ass to one of my friends. :distress:

There are three songs I can think of instantly.
One is this amazing song by Sam Phillips on Fan Dance called "Taking Pictures." Sometimes it strikes me as very, very strange that I'm growing up and that things are changing and that I'm not who I used to be. Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. When I take a picture of the city it disappears It's only a photograph the city is gone The places I go are never there Nostalgia isn't what it used to be I can only picture the disappearing world when you touch me. He brought me the air of Paris in a bottle The record caught the air of London nineteen sixty-five The places I go are never there Nostalgia isn't what it used to be I can only picture the disappearing world when you touch me. And Lucinda Williams' Side of the Road is the soundtrack to heartbreak for me. You wait in the car on the side of the road Let me go and stand awhile, I wanna know you're there but I wanna be alone If only for a minute or two I wanna see what it feels like to be without you I wanna know the touch of my own skin Against the sun, against the wind I walked out in a field, the grass was high, it brushed against my legs I just stood and looked out at the open space and a farmhouse out a ways And I wondered about the people who lived in it And I wondered if they were happy and content Were there children and a man and a wife? Did she love him and take her hair down at night? If I stray away too far from you, don't go and try to find me It doesn't mean I don't love you, it doesn't mean I won't come back and stay beside you It only means I need a little time To follow that unbroken line To a place where the wild things grow To a place where I used to always go If only for a minute or two I wanna see what it feels like to be without you I wanna know the touch of my own skin Against the sun, against the wind And, yesterday was the eight year anniversary of my grandmother's death. She meant so much to me, and I miss her every day. It's my "dark day" every year, and the tragedy last night in Ohio didn't help me today at all. "A Long December" came out RIGHT at that time, and I can't listen to this song at this time of the year without bursting into tears. The smell of hospitals in the winter and the feeling that it's all a lot of oysters, but no pearls |
Not my favorite Stevie song, but I can appreciate the lyrics. It is almost like Bon Jovi wrote this about my life, instead of Stevie's life. The lyrics pretty much sum up the story of my life.
Sometimes It's A Bitch Well I've run thru rainbows and castles of candy And I've cried a river of tears from the pain I try to dance with what life has to hand me My partner's been pleasure, my partner's been pain There are days when I swear I could fly like an eagle and dark, desperate hours that nobody sees My arms stretched triumphant on top of the mountain My head in my hands, down on my knees Chorus: Sometimes it's a bitch, sometimes it's a breeze Sometimes love's blind and sometimes it sees Sometimes it's roses, but sometimes it's weeds Sometimes it's a bitch...but sometimes...it's a breeze I've reached in darkness and come out with treasures I've laid down with love and I've woke up with lies What's it all worth? - Only the heart can measure It's not what's in the mirror, but what's left inside you've gotta take it as it comes...... Sometimes it don't come easy....... Well I've run thru rainbows and castles of candy I've cried a river of tears from the pain I've tried to dance with what life had to hand me And if I could, I'd do it all over again Sometimes it's a bitch, sometimes it's a breeze Sometimes the picture just ain't what it seems you get what you want but it's not what you need Sometimes it's a bitch and sometimes....it's a breeze Sometimes it's a breeze |

AND I think these stanzas: Well I've run thru rainbows and castles of candy And I've cried a river of tears from the pain I try to dance with what life has to hand me My partner's been pleasure, my partner's been pain There are days when I swear I could fly like an eagle and dark, desperate hours that nobody sees My arms stretched triumphant on top of the mountain My head in my hands, down on my knees are great - just my opinion - but I can totally relate and have been there so . . . . |

AMERICAN GIRL Well she was an american girl Raised on promises She couldn’t help thinkin that there Was a little more to life Somewhere else After all it was a great big world With lots of places to run to Yeah, an d if she had to die Tryin’ she had one little promise She was gonna keep Oh yeah, all right Take it easy baby Make it last all night She was an american girl It was kind of cold that night She stood alone on her balcony She could the cars roll by Out on 441 Like waves crashin’ in the beach And for one desperate moment there He crept back in her memory God it’s so painful Something that’s so close And still so far out of reach Oh yeah, all right Take it easy baby Make it last all night She was an american girl but if i picked a stevie song, it would have to be "gypsy" like so many of u also have chose, there is just some kind of mysticisum *(sp) & truth to the lyrics, they just touch the heart deep + it is the best fm video!!! stevie is just so delish in it  :p  ~ |

"In Walks The Night"
(Ann Wilson/Nancy Wilson/Daniel O'Brien/Tina Harris) The night is falling like an angel on your memory We are well acquainted -- we are sworn enemies And the lonely beating of my heart tonight is only one more thing I gotta fight When I think about you, baby Days of heaven that we had Then I get to thinking maybe -- maybe too much thinking's bad Well, my mind takes no prisoners Pities no one Spares not even me 'til the harm is done Here I go again The night just walked in In walks the night In walks my fantasy Darkness all around me And I'm dying for the light I reach down for a little strength deep inside Well, I know I love my freedom But lonely feelings come and go And nighttime is a season Oh, feel the cold wind blow And I toss and I turn and I walk the floor I don't wanna cry -- don't wanna cry no more Here I go again The night just walked in In walks the night In walks my fantasy Darkness all around me And I'm dying for the light I reach down for a little strength deep inside I reach down for my sanity Oh, if only these eyes could see -- through all the emptiness I found around me In walks the night I can almost feel you in the darkness all around Still I'm waiting for the break of day Waiting for a miracle A dream that won't wander away Well, my mind takes no prisoners Pities no one It spares not even me 'til the harm is done Here I go again The night just walked in In walks the night In walks my fantasy Darkness all around me And I'm dying for the light I reach down for a little strength deep inside I reach down for my sanity Oh, if only these eyes could see -- through all this emptiness I found around me In walks the night The night just walked in Yeah, in walks the night The night just walked in Maybe I'll be all right In walks the night |

Mr. Stew...
What an excellent choice! I had to do a double take, because I also love the other Nancy Wilson-jazzy R&B singer of "(You Don't Know)How Glad I Am."
And...About this thread's topic...Well, let's just say that I have an enormous post brewing in my head, and I'm trying to limit the songs to Fleetwood Mac. -Justin |
I'm getting the feeling I really don't fit in here...
Blue October's "Inner Glow" is hitting home right now; I'm kind of in this whole "if I'm going to do what I love, it's time to not do what everyone else wants me to do" state of mind.
I'm like a storm cloud eager when you go wild Calm again I ask permission for the wrong to win Drop the bomb and get your story out and get it on In a haze, the beginning of your days Gonna fall down, got to get back up, but at your own pace Gonna fill your cup and find the way out of your own maze Boy, what you said now And hide the rule book throw it in the waste Look strong Like you belong 'cause you do belong, Whether right or wrong, you belong I'm on your side... If you fail, at least you tried To keep your aching, celebrating, wondermaking heart alive And pride... don't keep it all inside Don't keep your aching, celebrating, wondermaking heart alone Write your own song "Thinking Over" by Dana Glover was me in the middle of my junior year. I had no idea what was coming the next year, or the one after that... just so many changes, so many decisions to make. And I'm still not done making them. I've been searching for a reason And I'm running out of time I can feel that it's the season It's time to make up my mind And I can't really tell you what I'm going to do There are so many thoughts in my head There are two roads to walk down and one road to choose So I'm thinking over the things that you've said I'm thinking over the things... When my ex broke up with me... that was over two years ago and it's still hard, I saw him the other week and he has changed so much. I just wish I could reach out to him, he's such a beautiful soul... but I can't, it would never work. After that went down I started writing, though, so it's a good thing... I got "Only in Dreams" out of that and looking back it's the cheesiest thing I've ever written (well maybe not totally), but it was my way of letting go and giving up... it's just not something I want to deal with if this is what it's like. Love stinks. :( It's born in a moment, refuses to die Taken for granted, transcends even time Always an illusion, never is what it seems Something so precious it lives only in dreams |

"and many of those dreams..pass us by
keep passing me by. So i close my eyes softly, 'till i become that part of the wind, that we all long for sometimes" Hate to be obvious, but i relate... :D also obvious, but... "gimme the beat boys and free my soul I wanna get lost in your rock and roll and drift away.." Also "sometimes, i think it's a sin, when i feel like i'm winnin when i'm losin again" Amber "drifting away and becoming part of the wind and losing again" G. :p |
