How's your holiday shopping going?

I was just wondering if everyone had a lot to buy for and if you are done or maybe not even started yet.

I am lucky cause I have about 5 people to buy for and then just a few little things for the people in my dept.

I already got a few stocking stuffers for a few friends of mine. I got my Dad something but I still need to get more. I got wrapping paper and boxes and some gift bags.

I just need to pick up a few gift cards and then I am all set.

Anybody expecting anything special or giving anything special this year? I want a photo printer but I will be getting that myself after Xmas.

I created a wish list at Amazon and I have no idea why because nobody is going to get the things for me. LOL But it was fun to make and I can dream.

GateandGarden 12-05-2004 01:13 PM

I still haven't gotten stuff for my parents. I've got my friends covered but that's it. And the stores are getting crazier and crazier.

Please don't shoot me for saying this--but I had all of my shopping finished before Halloween this year.

 I know a few people like that, too. But it is kind of fun to go shopping in the height of the season sometimes. Then there is online shopping, too.
I actually think that I can get some gift cards online even for Dunkin Donuts. :blob1: I am still afraid that I won't get them in time or they will get lost so maybe I am better off just going there.

It is easier to shop for friends then parents. At least you kind of know what your friends want.

I want to get my Dad a Xmas throw. Like a blanket type kind. I don't want a plain one I want a Xmas one and I don't want to pay a lot for it either. I swear that I have seen them around but I can't find any.

I've gotten everyone but my parents and two friends done. I have no sibling to buy for. My extended family still doesn't include my older cousins and me in the "adult name draw." (We're 24 or older.) Oh, well.....that means my grandparents and aunts and uncles still buy for all of us.

ryan8472 12-05-2004 01:35 PM

I've gotten something for my sister, but I don't know what my parents want. Anyone have any ideas as to what a pair of adults in their forties would want (besides a break from their kids)?

I don't have any siblings either. I just buy for my Dad, one of my first cousin's 2 children (one who is now 17) and my 2 friends that's it. I did secret Santa at work and that will just be a gift card. I also get a few little things for 4 people in my dept at work. 3 of them are guys which makes it kind of hard cause I have no idea.

Do they eat out anywhere? Maybe a gift certificate to a restaurant that they like might be an idea. If they drink coffee maybe one of those new gift cards to Dunlin Donuts might be a good stocking stuffer.

I buy for about six friends, my parents, and my boyfriend...that's all. I guess I should get something for my boss too. Probably will be chocolate or a gift card or something.

Your Welcome and you know what? I think that you can get those gift cards at Walgreens drug store. They have one card with like 4 or 5 different restaurants on it and Olive Garden is one of them.

Interesting this thread should pop up...

I just started my holiday shopping this morning. Trying to find a mug to replace my mom's favorite one that was chipped last month. I'm hoping it's on the net somewhere, especially considering you can apparently buy a ghost these days.

wondergirl9847 12-05-2004 01:58 PM

20 more days...

I still need to buy a few things for my mom and dad. I also need to mail some things out soon. I'm going to a Christmas party this Thursday and need to wrap that gift too.

My parents and I always exchange lists and I always get them a few things not on their list. I love surprises. :)

Who doesn't love chocolate!? I hope I get some for Christmas. LOL I made my dad this lame plastic tree with lil decorations on it a long time ago and put candy in it for him...it's become tradition that I buy candy for his lil tree every year.

I love getting gift cards, even though some people think it's lame or unthoughtful. I would rather buy things I want/need, than get stuff I don't like/want and have to give it away. My aunt gives everyone a gift every year and it's VERY thoughtful of her, but 99% of the gifts, I don't want. LOL

Exactly! My friend called me last night while she was at one of the malls and asked me what I wanted. I told her right out a gift card to Target or Best Buy please. I did not want an article of clothing, I really don't like that. I would rather have a gift card that I can put towards a photo printer or my digital camera media then a sweater.

I always get some kind of clothing from my cousin and I just want to say please just give me a gift card. Even a CVS gift card I can use!

amber 12-05-2004 02:14 PM

I'm not buying gifts, I don't think. maybe some small ones for the people at work, just cause everyone does that. But everyone got everyone else bottles of wine last year, so it's just a gesture...I had sooo much wine! but i got everyone little bags of good coffee from the free trade coffee place by my house, instead of wine. My parents haven't asked me what i want, but when they do, i'm going to say the Mirage tour video. It's on Amazon, and i don't have the whole thing. That's after i say..."you don't have to buy anything for me!!!"... :D

WelshWitchPMD 12-05-2004 02:17 PM

I also need to mail some things out soon

So, do I. I went on a wild goose chase last week at Walgreen's. They had Xmas mailers on sale and I had to go to 4 different stores before I could find them.
Of course the stuff is nowhere ready to be mailed out yet.

I have gotten wine fron co-workers before. It is a waste because I don't drink. They know me now and usually give me a box of chocolates. Chocolate makes me very happy! :blob2: I also love coffee esp. Dunkin Donuts!

That reminds me of the time we gave our mail man a bottle of vodka for Christmas. It was so totally random. And of course it became an annual thing

Why thank you. I hate to wrap that's why I get gift bags. I love them. I do wrap a few gifts up for my Dad cause it is fun to open them on Xmas day.

Well I haven't bought my families gifts yet, but I know what I am getting them all. All i have to buy for is my mom dad and sister. I like to be creative when buying gifts for them. So last year im saying ot myself, well how has stephanie(my sis) treated me this year. I said well basically like crap. So i went to spencers and bought her a fake piece of crap  .

Then, my dad is obsessed with Golf so i bought him exploding golf balls.

My mom got a movie.

This year im leaning towards getting my dad the fart pen or the dashboard jesus. cant decide yet.

That is so terrible. I love it :D.

I just have to find a gift for my mom. She's difficult to shop for. I think I'm going to try something non-tangible this year, though. She always used to say she wanted to ride in a hot air balloon. I found a place that does scenic rides out in Perris, so I want to reserve a flight on one of her days off Christmas week and trick her into driving out there. They also do sky dives, which is something *I've* always wanted to do, but I don't think she'd go for that .

ontheEdgeof17 12-05-2004 04:48 PM

I just send money to my sister and she buys for me. :wavey: Thanks Sis!

Shopping is one of those things I absolutely hate to do. If my parents liked Goodwill, I would be in good shape....

Your mom is adventurous, Tiff!! I couldn't imagine doing any of those things. I'd pass out on the way down and wouldn't be able to pull the cord. ;) And hot ar balloons? Hell no. I'd have a stroke.

I like the idea of giving her something memorable instead of something materialistic. A very, very nice idea.

If all else fails, though, get a fake scratch ticket.

What's a "fake" scratch ticket? Onetime my mom bought my great aunt real scratch tickets for Xmas. She's addicted to bingo, so she loved it! :D

I've only got one person left to shop for!!! Of course it's the one person I have NO CLUE what to get...so whatever....haha...I have to say I've bought more stuff for myself this holiday than anything lol - but eh I'm in a new place and feeling a bit o' the holiday blues being here by myself- so I figured a little retail therapy couldn't hurt :D

Patti 12-13-2004 12:45 PM

I'm done with the exception of one DVD set I want to get for my mom that isn't released until tomorrow. Other than that I have been done since Thanksgiving weekend. All is wrapped and under the tree. I'm usually an early bird. It's driving me crazy to think I have to venture out to the stores this week/weekend. It's *so* not my style.

estranged4life 12-13-2004 02:09 PM

Well...

havent holiday shopped nor do I plan too...We dont, per se, do the typical holiday shopping since we buy each other what each other wants without the whole "the mystery of the wrapped present wont be solved until X-Mas day" BS!!!

  "no f****** presents?"
I love wrapping and opening presents, and i love the way they look sitting together, all sparkly, but it's nice that you save the paper and such. I also like the "suprise". It's all part of the enjoyment of the ritual of christmas, for me.
