Stevie & Bette

It may be a silly question, but I'm curious. I have just read in the "Stevie Picture I Hadn't Seen" thread that Jana Anderson's husband plays trumpet in Bette Midler's band. Isn't this a returning connection? Marty Hom, Cory, and I think Ray Lindsay too went to work for her. Is it all a coincidence? I'm asking it also because it would be a hoot to see Stevie perform with her for a duet.

Isn't Taku on Bette's tour, too?

I think Jill the wardrobe lady works with Bette too. She told me in London that she turned down Bette to travel with FM but that Kim Brakely wasn't with FM in Europe because she hadn't turned her down!

Taku's been with Bette for a quite a while (since Divine Miss Millennium), as have Ray Lindsey and the rest.

During the first leg of her Kiss My Brass tour, there was a Stevie mention in the tourbook in the Dolores DeLago (the Toast of Chicago!) section that says "She loved to party and according to close friend Stevie Nicks, '...if there was a vodka and an aquarium - Delores was there.'"

I think a duet between the two would be a disaster, though. I can't quite think of anyone who has enough presence and energy to stand next to that woman onstage, save maybe Miss Tina. But I'd die to see Stevie sing Big Noise From Winnetka, while putting peacock feathers in your mouth and twirling about the stage.

"I am the one they call the Big Noise
I'm looking fine and feeling sharp
I just blew in from Winettka, daddy-o
I'm gonna blow this joint apart
Got my Reeblechs, don't need high heels
My footwork is an art
You know the joint is jumping
My hip is throbbin'
And this is just the start..."

Miss Jill needs to get Stevie in the pink leather mini's that she's got Bette wearing this time around.

I think Bette looks amazing. She lost tons of weight back in 2000 and has kept it all off. Each time I saw her on the Kiss My Brass tour, I was amazed at how wonderful she looked. And she's still a show-stopper and perhaps the greatest live entertainer in history.

That's great, but i still don't want to see a PINK leather mini on Stevie. For God's sake.
Also, for Bette to look amazing...well, that's good, but she's not really very attractive to start with, unfortunately... :D

I don't think she's incredibly attractive looks-wise, but I think her demeanor and presence is ultra sexy, just as I think Camryn Manheim's presence and confidence makes her very sexy. Did you ever see The Rose? She was very sexy during many of those songs, IMO. :)

I don't have "chubby tendencies," I simply don't have unrealistic expectations for people's bodies. Not everyone is a size two and not everyone diets on water and Altoids, and those facts don't make them unattractive. Sexiness isn't just about looks, it's about humour, confidence, and personality. ;) :)

But you have a thing for bloated old fools like Val Kilmer, so... :xoxo:

The Saint bombed.

He sabotaged his own career with his diva behavior and ****ty attitude.

ShangriLaTroubl 11-27-2004 10:19 PM

And dont forget Marty Hom, Fleetwood Mac's tour manager in 2003 left the tour after the US portion ended to work on Bette's tour.

And Stevie said at the Las Vegas show, the last one, "he's leaving us to go to work with BETTE MIDLER!!!" and dedicated Landslide to him

The Saint didn't bomb. No, i don't have cataracts. I read it. but you preceded it with "he couldn't command bleah bleah"
Yeah, apparently he's nicer, now. He certainly has a less than stellar rep. but -

The Saint cost $70 million to make, and that's without factoring in promotion and print costs. It made only $61 million and failed to do good business overseas. In the end, it made nothing substantial of a profit.

Yup, a bomb.

I forgot to mention this a few weeks ago but Bette was on Good Day Live and Arthel (Taku's wife) interviewed her. They spoke briefly about Taku and showed his picture and also mentioned Fleetwood Mac and Stevie. I was on the phone but everyone at work was like, "SHE HAS YOUR STEVIE NECKLACE ON!" It looks like Stevie gave her a moon necklace so I'd say yes, they're friends

Yes, they are definitely friends. I was at the "Kiss My Brass" show at America West Arena last night and I saw Stevie. Bette gave her a big ups, and she said how much she loves Stevie. Bette always gives 110% but last night she went the extra 200% because Stevie was in da house. No doubt about it. It was the best show I've ever seen. Sorry, Stevie.

Most good movies usually never make any money, you're right. If only good movies were hits, **** like "The Fast and the Furious" and "Bruce Almighty" wouldn't be hits and movies like "Wendigo" and "Real Women Have Curves" would be blockbusters.

 I so can't picture Stevie at a Bette concert. She must have blushed at the filthy jokes.

What were your favorite songs from last night? The Clooney ones are spectacular. But I'm partial to I Think It's Going To Rain Today...glad she pulled out Midnight In Memphis again.

I still would like to see them performing together (maybe to a certain benefit show?:D), even more now knowing they're friends. It could be fun!

Anyway, Bette Midler should receive much more credit also as actress. She was perfect in "The Rose" (Sally Field was great in Norma Rae, but that Oscar was hers)and she is probably my favorite living comedian: in Scenes from the Mall she even overshadowed Woody Allen.

Sally Field didn't deserve that Oscar, plain and simple; Bette did. She should have won the damned thing just for the scene in the phone booth alone. But what made the performance even more impressive was the fact that it was her first role EVER. She blew everyone away. And those concert scenes, my word, that is how a rock concert should be captured on film. I thought she was just as good in For the Boys, she was robbed again.

Not a lot of people like Scenes From A Mall, I'm surprised that you do. There are so many scenes in that one that have me on the floor that I coudn't begin to count them. I think it's one of the more original comedies ever made.

And I simply can't watch those 80s comedies of hers and not laugh, they were all great. Ruthless People still makes me laugh HYSTERICALLY after almost twenty years. Have you ever seen Divine Madness? That one epitomizes Bette. She had pneumonia during filming, yet she still put every other performer to shame.

I could go on and on, I'm a big fan.

I thought Wonderland was all about Lisa Kudrow. To me, Kilmer seemed very conscious of what he was doing, nothing seemed real. Too rehearsed, IMO.

Did you see it on DVD? I couldn't believe that they put the actual police video of the crime scene on there. What sick schmuck would actually watch it? I started watching the documentary that came with it on the actual Holmes, but it was too much of a whitewash for me.

.

I liked her a lot in For The Boys but James Caan should have been kicked out of the movie. I can't say I would have preferred Bette instead of Jodie Foster, but it was great to see her at the Oscar night seated just behind Anthony Hopkins. I knew it was a good sign! :D.

Why many people don't like it? I think it's hilarious, who doesn't want to knock out a mime, once in a while ;)? And I loved that during one of the couple's crisis they go to see Salaam Bombay!, it was a very nice and original touch.
