Who's doing the Day After Thanksgiving shopping?

Okay, so who is going to get up at the crack or dawn and do the whole bargain hunting thing? What stores are you hitting? What are you in the market for?

GateandGarden 11-24-2004 04:50 PM

I can't understand this at all. :distress: I can only take shopping for a few hours at a time, more like one hour of actual shopping and then a break to eat something. This girl in my history class says her family is always ready to go at 5:00 a.m. and they don't get back until that night.

That's flippin' insane!!! I don't like shopping enough to battle the jungle of the day after Thanksgiving. There is nothing I need - and I find crowds to be big trials in anger management for me....people are rude and I usually can't handle the big crowded stores...not even for mega big sales...

sparky 11-24-2004 04:56 PM

Not to save my life or the freedom of my country. I would need a fistful of Xanax to deal with the crowds and frenzy. Sparky is almost done shopping. Little need for this madness. But, for those who like this scene, Knock Yourselves Out. :woohoo:

strandinthewind 11-24-2004 04:58 PM

In lieu of actual gifts, almost all receive from me a card that says a donation has been made to a charity in their name by be for the holidays. So, I have little shopping to do - but THAT certainly will not keep me outa the stores

dissention 11-24-2004 04:58 PM

I get up around three and am out the door by four. :wavey:

I'll be driving back home from my parent's house on Friday. I don't think I want to hit the mall or anything. I worked at Old Navy for two years and know how it is. It wasn't pretty. Besides, I hate to shop and have no one to shop for.....

People are such assholes on the day after Thanksgiving, you can't survive without being one yourself. I was in the GAP last year and got into a fight with one lady over a pair of pants because there was only one left. I didn't get the pants, but I sure let her have it.

Villavic 11-24-2004 05:09 PM

Back to 1997

When I went to NJ for Thanksgiving in 1997... err,, actually it was for the Reunion Tour, Madison Square Garden concert at NYC, but also to dine with my relatives, ha ha....

Well, the day after I woke up very early to go shopping at K-Mart (or was it Wal-Mart? can't remember). But the sales weren't that crazy I always heard. Yeah, cool prices but I didn't find any "incredible" sale, at least what I was looking for.

My uncles (who live in NJ) bought a TV, I think it was very cheap. Anyway, not a good idea for me to carry a TV to Peru, I looked for small stuff, but it wasn't big deal.

No big lines or crowded place, fortunately

Oh to be a bug on your shoulder for Friday's festivities. I can just picture you bickering with a woman over a pair of pants. That is rich.

DeadliestPoison 11-24-2004 05:11 PM

Mom & I will be out of here by 4AM on Friday. I need to get to Target, because Season 7 of Buffy's on sale for $17.77. Which is CRAZY. Buffy DVDs are usually $50-60 in stores, and there's NO WAY I'm letting anyone pay that much for Season 7 of all things.

Other than that, I'm not sure what Mom & I are going out for. She can't really get stuff on my list, because... I'll be there. My sister just moved out, and I have no idea what she wants.

You have to know how to get things cheap. For example, one little known fact:

If your local supermarket carries things like electronics and DVDs and advertises them in their flyer that week, you can get them for much cheaper by using triple coupons. I save coupons like "15% off your next purchase" and you can go into the store, get something on-sale for, say, $20 and then get an extra 45% off with that coupon and a triple coupon.

Always get flyers from all the stores around so that if you don't want to go to all of them, you can go to one that does price matching and get all the stuff you want in one store at the prices the other stores are advertising. Try to hit places like Circuit City and Best Buy when doing that because they also lop off another 10-15% of the competitors price.

Amazon had all the Buffy seasons for $14.95 each a few weeks ago, along with a bunch of other Fox company DVD sets like MASH, Family Guy, Simpsons, Millennium, etc.

DrummerDeanna 11-24-2004 05:22 PM

I saw in a flyer that WAl-Mart has a bunch of DVDs on sale for $3.88 - pictured is You've Got Mail (which I've always wanted) - so actually I AM torn about whether or not to even battle that evil ass store....and inevitably I'll get there and they won't have that one movie that I want....

I won't give a cent of my money to that wretched corporation, so I'm going to price match it at Circuit City and get Blade Runner for $3.88.

Get the local paper tomorrow night or Friday morning, they're sure to have the flyers for every store in them, including that wretched one. :woohoo:

Actually, I've been shopping all week. The stores are stocked and not crowded yet. I'll probably finish it up today.

xdreamsunwindx 11-24-2004 06:37 PM

Hell yes. It's an annual tradition for my mom and I. I'm hitting Target and some stores in the malls. I hate shopping, but it's fun on Black Friday, since I enjoy watching people getting all riled up over a pair of sneakers or whatever.

Plus, I'm cheap. :P

I haven't gotten one thing yet. I usually have my Christmas shopping done months beforehand, but for some reason, I've been slacking this time around.

okay, you didn't mean 4 in the morning, right? cause that's absurd. But, also, you were fighting with a girl over some pants? You are the flaminest "straight" guy ever. That reminds me of the Will & Grace where they're at the Barney's sale, and chicks keep offering Will money for his jeans  Anyway, were they girls or boys pants?

Of course at four in the morning. If you aren't out there early, there's absolutely no point in going.

The pants weren't for me, they were for my friend Jamie. ;) I ended up getting better ones anyways.

If there's an FYI near you and you don't have the Blondie Singles Box yet, I saw it on sale for $25 the other day and it might be cheaper on Friday. :woohoo:

I never buy anything from FYI, though, I just like to go in and laugh at the ridiculous prices.

I don't really get it, i've never gone shopping on that day at all. Could it really be that crowded? How weird, that i've never experienced this phenomena that everyone else seems to know about and take for granted. I'm not usually sure whether i can buy Xmas presents until the week of, I guess that's why. But i'm pretty sure it wouldn't be worth getting up at 4 in the morning, for me, anyways... :p

If you don't have a lot of money to spend, it's the best day to go Christmas shopping. Black Friday is the biggest sale day of the year and once it's over, everything gets jacked up. Stuff is mad cheap and stuff is even cheaper if you know how shop. It sure is a zoo, you'll get angry and probably yell at someone, but it's worth it.

I am the coupon and sale King. When I go grocery shopping, they're ready for my ass. It may take a little extra time to clip coupons on Sunday mornings, but if I didn't, I wouldn't be getting $125 worth of groceries for $30. :p Try this website, this is how I got started:

It's still crowded here in WV on the day after T-giving, but we recently (within the past five years) started to have a TAX FREE WEEKEND. That weekend (Fri-Sun) has become bigger than Black Friday.

kay, thanks. I get most of my food at whole foods, i hope it works out for me. :wavey:
I usually only have (maybe) six or seven presents to buy. It's usually really easy for me to find almost everything i need on Telegraph in Berkeley. Maybe next year i'll think about saving up before Thanksgiving...hmmm....

We had tax-free Saturday here in Mass. a few months ago and it ended up having a normal Saturday consumer turnout. You would think that those living in Taxachusetts would take advantage of it. But they also had so many restrictions on what you could and couldn't buy that it was too much of a pain in the ass.

 Whole Foods is ridiculously priced. Don't you have a Trader Joe's? It's so much cheaper than Whole Foods (formerly Bread & Circus). I used to shop at Bread & Circus all the time, but I got sick and tired of paying $6 for a four pack of natural soda. When Trader Joe's opened up, I was in heaven. They're the Wal-Mart of natural foods.

It's far away, and i don't have a car. Plus, they don't have as much natural food as i would want...mainly i get produce and meat at whole foods. and bread, when i get bread. Unfortunately, i have to go to the regular store to get my cat's food, cause the little bitches only like one kind. But i also shop there for some stuff when i'm really poor, or if it's not produce...
The last time i went into trader joes they had some weird stuff... It wasn't extremely natural foodsy....

GardenStateGirlie 11-24-2004 07:16 PM

Not on your life. Thank God I don't have to work on Friday. It took me far too long to get to work tonight and we're near a mall. It? is out of control already here in Jersey. I won't be going anywhere near a mall or a store. Best wishes and safe travels to those who are

Trader Joe is all natural. They don't sell anything with chemicals or **** in it. Everything is natural, no preservatives or any of that. I haven't been to their site in a long time, but it tells you everything they sell. If I were you, I'd ride the damn bus just to buy their Kung Pao Chicken bowls. Best stuff in the world. Their almond butter and pistachio butter is to die for, too.

I am the most anal driver in the history of the free world, so I only go down there once a month. But I stock up as if I'm going to shack up in a bomb shelter.

Honey, if you lived here, you wouldn't want to come back out into this either. Not only is there one mall down the road....a few miles after that is a second mall. Not to mention Rt. 70 and Rt. 73 have been profiled to be some of the busiest roads on news programs and we're talking when there isn't a holiday. I'm finished work at 8 and one of my friends and i are going to get something to eat around here. I'd be willing to bet you my liver or a kidney that it will take me AT LEAST 15 minutes to make it down the road. This? sucks.

Darling, I'm in Boston. Prudential Tower on Black Friday?

pianogirl04 11-24-2004 07:31 PM

Absolutely. Ever since we started doing it a few years ago, we've done it ever since. Walmart was our favorite store for a while... a few years ago we got a digital camera and a computer... my grandparents got their first computer too. I'm not seeing much in this year's Walmart blitz ad that I can't live without.. I was expecting them to have sweats on sale but they don't. They've got a 128mb jump drive for $15 and I've been looking for one... it's just on sale though, not blitz. My dad got in today and he says he's in the market for a digital camera for work, though...

When does Target's Christmas blitz ad come out? I think we might try that insanity for a change.
