Red Rocks owns this thread, y'all.

"Thank you! Red Rocks! Colorado! Thank you for being here, and thank you for the white-winged doves."

"He loves you, he told me!"

"This is serious."

Well, okay, they're funny to me. Shutchomouf.

Buffalo, NY 7/2/83 ~ "Not to be like Lindsey and cut off your applause"

Buffalo, NY 7/2/83 ~ (after introducing Sara and saying it's about everyone she's ever met before someone in the audience yells "David Bowie!" Stevie says "I met him and he didn't have anything to say to me." Then she sings "Wait a minute David" at the beginning of Sara. LOL.

Indianapolis, IN 7/27/83 ~ Somebody gives Stevie a stuffed bear and she keeps singing to the bear "Well did you see her, well yes you did. Did you see that bear? Can she play? Well, yes she can!" (I think that is what she is saying ??)

Ames, IA 11/23/83 ~ "I love this city, but I don't really know where I am! I know I'm in Des Moines! I love the air!"

NY, NY 8/5/86 ~ She tells everyone that she and Lori are planning on becoming Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders after the tour. (can't remember the exact quote)

GateandGarden 11-07-2004 06:10 PM

To add to the goofy dove stuff, on the Red Rocks DVD, she holds up the dove and says, "Would you like to say something to the audience?" (I think that's the quote).

What concert was it when she said something about hiring Sharon out or something?

I said this in another post, but i'll say it again:

"As the fairy tale goes, in the story of the beauty and the beast, you cannot look upon the beast, until you can look upon the beast with love, because it bums him out completely and then it kills him."

I also like at the beginning of Gold and Braid at the U.S. Festival, she says, "They (something about silencing the tambourine) so you can't hear her play, I pick it up!"

AND

"Only I would remember to bring the brush out of the tent!"

Johnny Stew 11-07-2004 11:55 PM

One of my favorites....
"I about knocked Lori down coming out of the tent! Sorry, Lori!"

I think it's pretty much that.... "A deadened tambourine she has, so you can't hear her play. I pick it up!"

I think she just meant "serious" as in "intense". That the doves being released at the show was an intense experience. Yes, she was coked out at that show, but I don't think this is something that would be weird to say regardless.

Some of my favorite Stevie-isms were at the US Festival in '83, she was very buzzed-funny that night: "Sharon Celani- she's yours for $25,000"--
"over there, mr. cameraman from we-don't-know where"-- "don't tell me to take a right off the freeway, I'll turn left", pointing with the wrong arms as she says it, "you'll be the only 75,000 people who know the story behind 'stand back'-- "from the new abum the wild heart which we will be delivering personally to your door like girl scout cookies"--
when trying to talk about a "Scarlett O'Hara moment" she fuzzes up the pronounciation making it more like 'ohearye'-- she misses the cue to sing after the bridge of 'stop draggin' as mr cameraman catches her with a wine glass in her hand and she runs back to the microphone, and near the end of the song with Waddy she yanks hard on his hair (sounding awesome, the best SDMHA to me) and as the band plays the ending of Stop Draggin she walks over to either Sharon or Lori and lifts up the billowy edges of her skirt, laughing. During a stellar 'How Still My Love' she reverses the sequence of 2 lines, and makes arrow motions with her hands, like 'i just sung those lines backwards'-- and it worked fine!
Also coming to mind was a radio broadcast of a RAL concert a couple years later, where in a loud, slurred Valley Girl dialect she yells "I'm SOOOO HAPPY THAT YOU STAYYYYED!"--- :)

That US Festival concert was just too freakin' cool. She was having fun... she was loopy... she poured her heart into every song.
One of my favorites.

But... I don't think she mispronounced "O'Hara"... to me it sounded like she was going for a little Southern accent there (or "they-ah" ;) ). :)

My intent is not to nitpick, but what she actually said is just that little bit funnier so I had to bring it up...

After introducing:

"Sharon Celani, dark hair"

and

"Miss Loretta Perry, from Texas"

then it's

"and Mr. Film Camera, from we don't know where"

Nixxxed 11-11-2004 04:34 PM

This was NOT THAT FUNNY at the time, but after almost 20 years, it's hilarious (at least to me):

I was at opening night of the Rock A Little tour at the Houston Summit, when Stevie fell off the stage into the side (unused) audio pit. It wasn't the first time she'd stumbled that night -- she almost tripped over her monitor during a GDW twirl, and almost fell into the front row after the first few songs leaning down to grab a bouquet of roses from a fan. This really surly older bodyguard would run out to center stage and grab her around the waist, which kept her from involuntarily crowd surfing.

Towards the end of the show, Stevie went to the far right-hand side of the stage and was waving to people in the lower sections, and someone held out some flowers with a teddy bear. Stevie reached for it, and fell off the stage into the pit. I was in a floor section, and all we saw was Stevie reaching out from the stage, and then a blur of black chiffon and blonde hair, and she was gone. All kinds of crew members rushed to the pit, and after several tries finally pulled her back onstage.

Once standing onstage, she rushed directly to her mike and gushingly apologized for the mishap, saying (approximately):

"I couldn't see the pit! It was so dark over there that I fell in. And then my guys tried to pull me out, but they shoved the soundboard into me instead. THEY WERE SQUASHING MEEEEEEEEE!!!!!"

Then she laughed, composed herself, and the band went straight into the next song. Of course, I heard about her entering Betty Ford about a year later and thought about the incident. I'm just so glad she wasn't hurt!! Concert stages are a good 4 feet tall, and when you add in the height of the platforms... Guess all the chiffon broke her fall!!! :]

1980 Tusk tour "She said Buffalo thank you so much!!!"

The rest of us were in Cleveland.

Christine and John were laughing their asses off by the keyboards and LB was smiling at Stevie like "um hon we're in Cleveland". Mick didn't seem to notice.

{This is a general thing that I don't think she still does (other than in lyrics), so I'll put it down to being a "stoned thing":}

That she used to always talk about herself in the third person.

Either way, I love it!!!

It's so scary to think how many times we could have lost her! :( Didn't she actually twirl off of the stage at least one time? When I was in line for Enchanted tickets, a guy said he had seen Stevie on the WH Tour and that it was terrible because she was so high and kept falling down. He had therefore refused to see her since then and I had to reassure him it would be okay now!

Though drugs could have contributed, I'm sure this can just happen sometimes when you're bouncing from city to city. It can't be uncommon to lose track of where you are.

However.....

She literally wlmost fell on top of me one time. It was on the RAL tour, but not drug related. She was shaking my hand and saying thank you to me and everyone pushed. I could not let go of her hand, but eventually did and fell. The security guy was like - "watch it" to me - Needless to say, I tore him a new one

The RAL show was funny because I am I literally almost pulled Stevie on top of me. I was shrieking I am sorry I can't let go or something like that. I mean any idiot could tell I was the victim DAMNIT

The guy in Atlanta was just an assh*ole. Chastain Park is notorious for that. He just singled me out and then refused to back down when he realized he was wrong - JERK!!!!! Oh well, at least Stevie must have noticed and told them to leave the rest of my posse alone. See, i was the knight in shining armor once again and putting everyone else's needs ahead of mine!!!!

AliP 11-12-2004 08:42 PM

Yeah, apparently there are still people out there who think she is still like this. The following story is great because it involves my home town and nothing cool ever happens there, and of course, in my deprived little life I think it's sooo cool. Anyhooo here it is.

The very first show of the Tusk tour happened in my home town - this was in 1979. (Which I can't believe because never in a million years would I think Fleetwood Mac would come to po-dunk-ville) So anyway, I was only 1 at the time, but who cares. So there was this lady that used to work for my dad who was around 18 at that time, I guess. (her name is Marsha) Anyway Marsha was good friends with a lady who worked at the box office. Somehow, the lady got asked to drive some of the members to the arena and she asked Marsha along. So Marsha and her got to drive Stevie to the arena!! Marsha said that Stevie was soooo out of it and was snorting coke in the back of the limo (car, whatever it was) I guess Stevie was totally out of it during the concert and was forgetting her lines and stumbling about according to Marsha.

So anyway, I went to say hi to Marsha this past summer before I went to the Bozeman concert (she lives there now) I told her I was going to see Fleetwood Mac. She was like "well, hopefully Stevie will be able to remember the lines and not fall all over the place...haha." I was like "uh, she's not like that anymore." So anyway...the point of the story is, Marsha totally thinks Stevie is still a coked out drug head. But, damn Marsha doesn't know how lucky she was! (to me anyway!) That would have been sooooo cool!!

Kelly 11-13-2004 08:11 AM

Now Jason, who do you think you are kidding?!? We ALL know you wanted to pull La Nicks down on top of you!

:. )

(and in Atlanta ..the security sucked..not as bad as Jones Beach...but still, they sucked. We have people from the upper levels at the stage and you, who paid a fortune for your PIT seat is told to beat it?!?! WTF?)
