It's a movie about 2 Stevie fans - a coming of age sort of film. You can read all about it here:

Gypsy 83 Official website

This director also did a film called Edge of Seventeen.

Hawkeye 11-04-2004 04:32 PM

sorry, don't care. When Stevie's Live in Concert comes out on DVD, then I'd care.

Me too! That's cool. Although I would also prefer a DVD for Live in Concert.

2. Um...why the hell is Talk To Me the only Stevie song on the soundtrack (and I'm guessing in the movie too)??

If I recall correctly, that's the only song the production has been allowed to use and only because Stevie didn't write it. I think the director spoke about it in an interview or in the Q & A he did on Burnish.

Does anyone know how that is handled? Afterall, Edge of Seventeen was just in School of Rock. Is it on a movie to movie basis?

Livia 11-08-2004 05:08 PM

Well, without opening up the entire can of worms - if I recall correctly, Stevie's "people" weren't down with the subject matter of the film - the homosexuality, etc. I don't think Stevie herself was ever really approached or informed that Todd Stephens was interested in using her music. They just said "no." So, Talk to Me was used - as already mentioned - Stevie didn't write it.

ok, i think she was joking when she said that thing. Maybe if we buy it, next time that guy makes a movie, maybe Stevie's "people" will let him put her f***ing songs in it!!!
I think Sara just made an off the cuff comment. What if people hated you forever for some off the cuff remark you made, once? Weird...

I dont hate her, I just cant see supporting a movie she was a part of when she doesnt respect Stevie (sure maybe it was a joke, but out of line for sure) and Stevie is the one the movie is a tribute to you could say.

I will likely buy the damn dvd anyway, more likely that I would get a bootleg copy of it though...because that Sara Rue ruined it for me...I liked her until then, THE END...you dont go off calling Stevie names, when the majority of interest for the damn movie is STEVIE FANS..what an idiot she is

Forget what Sara said, this movie was made by a fan for fans. The costumes were made by a fan. Fans were "consulted" for the movie. It's an homage. It is too bad that Stevie's people wouldn't allow her music in the film. But don't we have to support a film about a Stevie fan?

You make a lot of sense... Okay, if it will ever arrive here I will rent it. By the way, after the Sara Rue accident, if Todd Stephens is thinking to shoot another chapter of his homage to Stevie, he better start wooing Bon Jovi to use Sometimes It's A Bitch, because I doubt Stevie's management would be more willing to help him (even if they should, IMO)

Dude, if i were you i would be on the downlow about getting bootleg copies of anything. Just from my own experience...
That's fine if you feel that way, i, personally, just don't hold a grudge. She was probably trying to make a joke, didn't work. And do we really know whether or not she respects Stevie? Yes, she was an idiot. But still, i would get it for the guy who directed it, who is obviously an enormous, enormous fan. And so, again, maybe next time we can hear her damn songs in the movie!!!!! And so this guy can make other films. Which Stevie song will he name his next one after? I wanna know!
I mean, obviously i see your point, i guess it's just a matter of how mad one is. You are mad, i am not that mad. so..i mean, you shouldn't see it if you don't want to...obviously.

diamondsnake 11-09-2004 08:57 PM

I am almost scared to watch this movie. It seems to be poking fun at Stevie's fans and making them out to be a bunch of crazy people, which I'd like to think I'm not! :)

Besides I hate Sara Rue. Before and after her "comment".

Dreammms 11-09-2004 09:08 PM

Check out the trailer for the movie. It doesn't look like a bad movie. I love the night of 1000 Stevie's.

I just cant stand Sara. Seems very stuck up to me.

I'll be alright...they can sue me if they want though..

Anyway, I will likely get the movie...I hope Todd contacted Sara about her comment atleast...anyway, I'm actually NOT mad about it..I do not get mad about things like that.. I just think Sara is bitchy, and I dont like supporting a work that she is a part of...because of her attitude about Stevie...simple really...but like I said, I will probably not hold a grudge and will buy the thing anyway

Chris

ShangriLaTroubl 11-09-2004 09:35 PM

By the way...I have many bootlegs...and will continue to have them...forever and ever..LOL
I buy Stevie's music, and her and the Mac's DVDs, sometimes more than once...but I do love bootlegs, of all sorts...

Hell, why buy Gypsy 83 when someone will copy it for free...there you go I think I will get a nice bootleg of it, just to show that bitch Sara that I'm not supporting her ass

I finally watched this DVD from Netflix. I give it 2 out of 5 stars. It's not very good and a but clunky at times and the dialog was very contrived.
