Why didn't they do this song on The Dance record? I think it would have been great to have Christine and Lindsey interact a little more on that video.

But maybe it would have ticked Stevie off. Especially if they made her make the dog barking noise. That would be priceless to have Lindsey and Christine singing to each other with their bedroom eyes and then every ten seconds Stevie comes up to the microphone and barkes! :laugh:

Anyways, does anyone else like this song? I think it is really sexy with the "slip your hand inside of my glove" line.

Dog barking noise? What the hell...? I've never noticed anything like that in "Hold Me". Or, if I have, I've just never thought about it that way myself.

And I LOVE the song (and the video). I've heard boots of it from the Mirage tour, and it just didn't transfer well to stage, IMHO. But a Dance version certainly could have been fun, with a little "modern" reworking.

Dog barking? You mean the deep vocal part where they go "Come on and..." ...?

Anyway, if you've heard any of the boots from 1982, you realize that song is almost impossible to do justice in a live setting. It's one of those studio magic tunes, much like Gypsy, that is hard to recreate live.

It's never been that great live from the few boots that I've heard. I think it's hard to achieve that harmony on stage. I don't know what barking you're talking about but I guess Stevie doesn't have much of a part in the song. I like the live versions simply because the speed ISN'T adjusted to I can actually play along on my guitar.

Playing the guitar along with the record is easy. Practice it. It's one of the easier Mac songs to play.

It's not that I can't play it...Lindsey adjusyed the speed or whatever so that it's slightly out of tune. You can find the same thing on lots of FM stuff including Gypsy & Sara and it drives me nuts cuz I can't stand things that are out of tune. Hopefully I'm making sense...I'm typing w/ one hand right now.

I think he was talking about that high-pitched "OH!" or "OW!" noise Christine does (at least in the video). I didn't notice it until I saw the Pop-Up Video version of Hold Me where they had an arrow pointing to Christine's mouth when she did it. Now I can't listen to it at all because that part bugs me so much.

Weird! I've never noticed that. Now I have to go watch it and look for that.

I agree that it doesn't sound the best live. Just think, however, of how EOTW was transformed from the Mirage tour to this tour. Hold Me could have worked.

Personally, I would have loved all old material on that tour. I mean, it was a reunion. Hold Me, Little Lies, Think About Me...etc could have taken place of Temporary One. Sweet Girl could have been Sara, Seven Wonders, or Angel. Liddy's two new tunes (plus Go Insane) could have been World Turning, EOTW, etc....I loved the new tunes, but for a Reunion I think classic songs would have went over better with the crowd.

I've been on a "Hold Me" kick lately. The song puts me in such a good mood. It doesn't do well live, though. Unfortunately, that holds true for many of Chris' songs, as Lindsey has said.

I think the barking sounds we're debating over are just the guitar part during the chorus. It's very plucky, and if you stretch your imagination a little it can be confused for a short bark. I was never sure if it was a guitar or actually a distorted cowbell...

Anyways - I'm torn with what they tried to do with the live version. I think Lindsey really wanted to play it live, because I remember him saying he thought it was a hell of a song in one of the bootlegs. But the harmonizing totally carries the studio version. That's why I love it - it's so soft and complicated vocally, yet very simple in its entirety. For a live version, they needed extra (the "WHY DON'T YA..." and "WHYDON'TYOUCOMEONAND..."s) which really made it awkward. In the bootleg I have, Lindsey does a fun solo at the end which works pretty well. But I think that with how well they pulled off "Everywhere" on the Dance, they could have given an equally good performance of "Hold Me".

Listen to the version on the Greatest Hits CD. During each chorus when they go "Hold Me Hold Me Hold Me" during the third "Hold Me" there is a sound that I swear is a dog barking! It is so loud and obvious I don't see how anyone could not notice it.

AWWW man...I like this song live! It sounds like they're having so much fun with it. No, it doesn't sound THE SAME, but it still sounds cool...well to me anyway! I love how they all chime in with the "Well, why don't you..."

I actually think it kinda ROCKS whereas the album version is a little too low key. :thumbsup:

I love this song. Actually, it was the first song I rembering hearing when I became somewhat familiar with FM that I really really liked. I would just listen to it over and over. But now, I've listened to it too much so it's kind of lost its "favorite" title with me. My favorite parts are the harmonies. Christine's and Lindsey's voices can be so similar that I get confused as to who is really singing. I actually kind of like it live....the "why don't cha" part is pretty cool, but I agree, it seemed hard transfer live.

And as someone else said, I think Lindsey really liked the song. In every single Mirage bootleg I have he introduces it as either "his favorite song of Christine's" or as "one hell of a song."

I totally agree. I like both the album and the live version. I also don't think they sound the same but the live one kicks more ass!

Are you sure? I have been playing guitar for 8 years now. I'm pretty sure that guitar is in standard tuning. When I play it, the notes sound are in the same key. I'm not adjusting the tuning or anything. And from listening to the record, I don't think the guitar tracks were sped up...maybe a pitch change but thats it.

I loved it live, too. Lots of muscle & none of that "pretty" singing (that Fleetwood Mac never reproduced onstage anyway, except for Peter Green, who could sing onstage as well as he could in the studio).

Hold Me is DEFINITELY not in standard tuning(which drives me nuts, too). You can't play along without retuning, which is a PITA, Lindsey! :lol: Leave that tape speed knob alone!

Hold Me is my FAVORITE FM song, period. :] I'm basically a Lindsey fanatic, but I fell in love with this song when it was released (I was 12!). I love Linds and Chris harmony! Good to know that it's one of his favs. I've never heard it live, though I can understand how it definitely wouldn't sound the same! But I'd probably like it too.

That's what I thought you might be talking about after I watched the video looking for it. I think it sounds more like something Lindsey did in the studio...almost like the love groans in Big Love?
