Seeing Stevie w/ Chris Isaak Tonight!!
I just got tickets to see this show tonight. Pretty cool, considering I saw the Soundstage with Lindsey last year. Stevie is literally feet away from the stage. Hopefully, this time she'll look at the audience.
Whoo hoo!!! Yea for me!!! |
Congrats!!!! You are one lucky bastard, i tell you what! Have a great time - I hope stevie does lots o' songs....

Lucky duck! Yes, give us a FULL report!

Here is a quick recap:
Stevie was the last special guest who came out. She looked absolutley radiant. I won't go into it, but the woman refuses to age. Utter gorgeous... She sang "Santa Claus is coming to town" and her part rocked. Chris Isaak really needed her part up there, I like Chris, but these rollicking Xmas songs really put the crowd to sleep at times. Stevie wore the same outfit she wore when she sang "Silent Night" with Tom Petty on the that Special Olympics special a couple of years ago. They sang the song three times and then Stevie left the stage. Stevie then joined all the singers for the grand finale of "Rudolph". She sounded so sweet. Her vocals on both songs were very fluttery and she really used her upper register. I am amazed at what a good singer she is in such a intimate setting. One funny part came at the end when Chris brought his dog out on stage and gave it to Michael Buble to hold during the last song. He literally carried the dog like a sack of potatoes and then finally put the dog down, which ran right off the stage. The sight of Stevie bending down in her heels calling, "Here Rodney" was a hoot. She really looked like she was having fun and it's obvious she really enjoys Chris' company and sense of humour. The studio said it will air on Dec 2. DOn't miss it! |
Thanks, Joe! Sounds like it was a great show, can't wait to see it.
I don't remember what Stevie wore for her Silent Night thing. Was it black? LOL Or was it more holiday-ish? |

I SO wanted to be there to see this taping!!!! Stevie and Chris have been friends since, I think, the 70's - it is ashame IMO that they have not done more together. I cannot WAIT to see this!!!!!! Thanks for the review Joe!!!!

Thanks a lot Joe for the report, it must have been an awesome show (especially the parts with Stevie  ). I'm glad she had such a good time with Chris, it seems their voices and personalities fit together very well.

I was so excited, thinking that was what she was going to wear for the actual taping, but she didn't. Paula Edit: Just checked Nicksfix.com - it was black, but sparkly! Click on "photos", then click "Very Special Christmas 2000 White House" :) |
Actually, it was also the same outfit she wore on the Blockbuster Awards when she sang "Fall From Grace" with Sheryl Crow. A black top with a silvery pattern.

Not to turn this into a black dress bashing thread, but...

Just saw Chris in John Waters' "A Dirty Shame" today and it is a HOOT. Filthy and raunchy (it's NC-17, that's how filthy and raunchy  ), but it was hysterical. All about sex addicts in Baltimore. |

Desperate Living has to be my favorite Waters flick, though. The lines in that movie are priceless: "Dontcha know MEN ain't supposed to look in a LADY'S handbag?!" "Ain't no white man lookin' at my tampax!" "Go home to your mother! Tell her this isn't some communist day care center!" "I ain't your maid any longer, bitch, I'm your sista in CRIME." "Let me fit my big business into these." "I knew cops were sick, but..." A Dirty Shame was probably his filthiest since Desperate Living, it was truly vulgar and rude. Tracey Ullman was unbelievable in it and just wait until you see Selma Blair made up as "Ursula Udders," you'll wet yourself. Chris I saak had me in stitches, he played his part so deadpan. Mink Stole had a meaty part, thank god, and even Jean Hill (Grizelda from Desperate Living) is in it. :D  |

Also, HOW cool would it be if Chris produced her next album? |
I went as well, with Kristin (gypsyrhiannon). Just wanted to add a few things:
Chris introduced her with "One of the great things about being in this business is you get to discover new talent. I've got someone who I think you'll be hearing a lot from in the future. Her name is STEVIE NICKS!" [ wild applause here lol]. Stevie came out looking GORGEOUS. With the outfit, she wore black boots. She was also wearing the moon necklace and the green earrings. Chris then said, "This next song is an old Christmas standard that really needs no introduction. Hit it!" And then the band started to play "Rhiannon." Stevie didn't react at first, probably thinking "Oh yeah, time to sing Rhiannon" for a nanosecond and then of course she realized that it was a joke. She shook her finger at Chris, laughing. Then she said "That was pretty good," to the band, who were still jamming on the song. After that, they got to down to business and began the song. Stevie sounded terrific, and really went all out, especially on the line "so be good for GOODNESS SAKE!" The only problem was that Chris had changed the lyrics somewhat - I guess to "make the song his own" - and Stevie occasionally forgot. For instance, Chris reversed "bad" and "good" in the line "He knows if you've been bad or good." Stevie consistently forgot this and finally just kept her mouth shut until Chris had sung "good" and then she piped back up with "or bad." Therefore, they had to do the song about three times. Of course none of us cared and we all ate it up. She got the most applause of the night! They were very playful; Chris even said "Get down, sexy!" to Stevie during the instrumental break and she dipped and swayed her hips. Of course, she came back out again for the big finale, "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," which you've already been told about earlier in the thread. Then it ended, everyone went off-stage, and we thought that was it. We started to leave, but dawdled a bit because the crowd was moving slowly. Then suddenly we hear "There's Stevie Nicks!" She had come back out onto the stage and was signing autographs!!!! Of course Kristin and I rushed over, but we were only two of about forty people who had also seen Stevie and were trying to get autographs. She signed quite a few. Meanwhile Chris and Brian also came out but unfortunately the fans at Stevie's feet were too focused on getting her autograph and therefore only a few people asked them for theirs. I felt kind of bad for them, but I didn't want to use up my ticket (the only thing I had for someone to sign) on Chris or Brian when I could perhaps get Stevie to sign it. Kristin did, however, ask Chris for an autograph, as he was standing right above her. While we were waiting to get an autograph, the coolest thing happened! Someone started playing "Stand Back" on the piano as she signed. Stevie laughed and turned around, leaving us all waving our pens and papers, to go to the piano. Brian McKnight said he wanted to play "Rhiannon," but didn't know it. Stevie said, "You can do it!" He said, "No I can't. She repeated "Yes you can" and then he repeated "No I can't" and so she finally sat down and did it herself. She played the chords of "Rhiannon" similar to the way she played it for Storytellers, although she didn't sing. Of course we were all in awe. Then afterwards, she signed some more autographs before we were all cleared out by her bodyguard. Kristin and I did not get her signature, unfortunately. Kristin and I determined to go wait by the limos, hoping for an experience like that of those who waited after Lindsey's Soundstage. We waited for about 45 minutes, and she finally came out - and went directly into her limo without looking up! Ah well. That's life. All in all we're both very glad we went. I can't wait to see it! |
Thank you so much Joe and Nancy for sharing your stories. I was dying to find out about it.
I am sorry that you did not get Stevie's autograph Nancy. It sounds like you had a wonderful time, however. It seems like Chris I. and Stevie really have some fun together. |

It's amazing how less reserved Stevie is when she's not ensconced in Fleetwood Mac. I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way either.

I per tart blockbuster Awards dress to anything she'd worn on this past tour, except maybe the two birds or Rhiannon, NGBA and Rhiannon dress

Back in the 90's I had my own radio show and Chris was one of my guests that I had the pleasure of interviewing. He has such a cute personality and kept me and my crew laughing for hours.
I saw A DIRTY SHAME this weekend and it was hilarious! Chris was great! rbs |
