Hi all! A few details about Detroit.
The Mac played to what looked to me like a full house last night at DTE Amphitheater. In addition to it being the last show, we had another bombshell dropped on us. Lindsey switched up the intro to Peacekeeeper and announced that after 29 years, Ray Lindsey was leaving! Stevie later told us the story of how Ray had picked her up for the very first Fleetwood Mac rehearsal in an orange Datsun pickup on Hollywood Blvd. :lol:
The next stunning moment came with the intro to Say Goodbye. Lindsey switched it up again when he dedicated it to his late brother Greg and to his neice Cory, who, he told us, is going on tour with other artists now. He ended it with a most touching "I love you" to Miss Cory. Then he and Stevie sang Say Goodbye and after the final note, Stevie stood there and just looked at Lindsey for a very long time. I could only see her looking at him and was unable to see his reaction to this. It was so moving that when it was over I forgot to clap.
Stevie thanked the fans who ":came to all these shows" several times. Lindsey was really into singing Stand Back, coming to the lip of the stage and pointing at the audience "Stand Back, stand back". He wasn't in front of his mic but was singing it so loudly that I could hear him anyway. He also got into singing the "It's alright, alright" part and even thumped his chest saying "I need a little sympathy". Stevie really got into Stand Back and gave it all she had. By this time, she was throwing in little ad libs all over the place. The "don't forget me" line was changed to "don't forsake me" in Goodbye Baby. She twirled effortlessly during Sara and quickly during Stand Back.
During World Turning, John appeared to be playing an electric guitar. :eek:
During Beautiful Child, he came out from his little hiding space :lol: and I watched how he and Mick just kind of grooved back and forth. It's something I hope to remember and see again for a long time to come.
At some point Lindsey told us they would be back but they are going to take a little break. I hope he means it. I was not entirely convinced. After the final bow, Mick and Stevie hung out on the stage. Lindsey just turned and stoically walked off. It was hard watching him walk off. Stevie came over to our side and said thank you. And it was over...or so we thought.
After a looong drive back to our hotel with the top down going 70+mph, we pulled up to the entrance to see Fleetwood Mac checking into our hotel. :confused: :lol: Apparently, there was a problem at LAX so they couldn't fly out and were stranded at our hotel! We went upstairs and dropped off a few things and headed back down to the sitting area where a bunch of people had gathered. The Ryder Cup was going on so there was quite an eclectic mix of people. At one point I turned around and Jamie Foxx was standing there! He was a very nice guy and made a point to go around and shake hands and say hello to everyone. He was in town working on a Ray Charles tribute. My final glimpse of the the evening was of none other than Stevie herself, sitting next to Lori Nicks gallantly tolerating a drunk who was there for the Ryder Cup while her big, burly bodyguard watched over the scene. It was a wonderful evening.

Ray is Lindsey's assistant and guitar tech. He also engineered Say You Will. You can see him in the Destiny Rules doc and the Mirage Tour video. :)

Oh you bright Amberlight. That's Lindsey's guitar tech for almost all his career. Provided the acoustic counterpart in go your own way-live in the days they played with the 5 of them on stage. A LOOOOOOOONG time ago ;)

I was there with Goldie - It was surreal - AND the funny thing was we totally were esxpecting to get home and crawl to bed exhausted - BUT NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

and - the night before, we went to this creepy and kitschy steak house straight out of a Frank Sinatra movie - I think I saw the ghost of Ava Gardner and Sammy Davis. We were the only people in the joint. Then, as we are discussing and somewhat trashing La Nicks (the tennis shoes, the clothes, etc. :laugh: - WE LOVE YOU STEVIE BUT GET A NEW OUTFIT :laugh: ) THROWN DOWN comes on over the loudspeaker as if it was La Nicks sending a thunderbolt!!!!!! I mean of all times and places!!!!!!!!!

:lol: Are you makin fun? Anyway, that's kinda sad....yes, i don't know all the facts, etc, but hey, i've just been listening to the songs ad nauseum for 10 years. The personal details escape me, but the notes and vocal inflections do not.... :xoxo: Thanks for the info, y'all.

Thanks for the review. It's definitely bittersweet, but I'm glad Lindsey made a point of saying they were "just taking a break". I'd like to believe they'll be back and for the time being a will. In the meantime I've got lots of material to listen to.

woah... :] But what I don't understand...i mean, you guys were right next to them, and stevie was lounging around the hotel and all?!? I mean, how did you act? what did you do? wasn't anyone freakin out? Did you guys have to act all cool like you didn't care that Stevie was there? WHAT'S THE DEAL!!!

Well...the last thing I'd ever want to do is bug her or piss off her bodyguards. It sure is a kick to be in the same room with someone who you've watched, listened to and admired for 20 some odd years. I was more than happy to just kind of take it all in...like Strand said. It's pretty surreal. Jamie and the drunk PGA guy just made it all the more interesting. And Jamie is a riot. :nod:

ok, but i mean, weren't you staring, (while trying not to) and...well, i feel like I might've cried, actually, so....you probably didn't do that. I guess i woulda been really shy, but probably tried to make eye contact. I mean, of course you don't want to bother her, but THAT'S STEVIE NICKS, you know?

I don't feel like that at all. :distress: Being able to get away and do stuff like this keeps me going. I'm thankful for every experience I've had and I'm fortunate to have had them. They were in our hotel purely by accident. And the Thrown Down incident at the Rat Pack steakhouse was like a premonition. It completely freaked Strand and I out. :laugh:

Strandie and I like to travel well. So does Fleetwood Mac. When they're playing certain places, there are only a few nice places to stay. Sometimes the odds that we run into each other are inevitable. Every time it has happened, it was merely a case of being in the right place at the right time. :shrug: :)

Ah, so money may be the answer :laugh: damn! When they were here, i was like, I will find out which hotel, etc. But then i realized i didn't have a car, and had to take public transpo home, and really couldn't follow anyone around....you guys sure had a couple happy coincidences....I call them, fleetwood mac psychic moments. I know - I mean it would have been cool to talk to her and hang out with her, but it would also have been really rude. She was in a group of people and it would be like walking up to a group eating dinner and just speaking with one of them. So, no one really did that - and her body guard was not really letting anyone get by her. While that seems harsh, I always think back to all the creeps that have stalked her and people that have stolen things from her like demo tapes and just crazies in general. I mean some guy hung himself outside of one of her concerts one time and other weird stuff has happened like that. So, I respected her privacy. But, she noticed us and sort of nodded faintly and then continued her conversation with her friends. It was just great to be there IMO :cool:

I was actually speechless and wide eyed for like five minutes!!!! :eek: :laugh:

The first time I "met" Stevie at Red Rocks on the Timespace tour was when she came walking down the front row during Edge where I was. We were literally face to face and I spoke to her briefly. She hugged me and when she let go, I burst into tears. I was embarassed to be sure.
To answer your question, in that setting, while I did make eye contact with some people, I wouldn't have felt comfortable with the out and out staring. We were in a social setting and there was lots of security around. I just wanted to drink the whole thing in. So I glanced discreetly. :lol:

True - the only person staring was her body guard :laugh:

Yeah I heard he's going to work for Bette Midler in November along with Taku.

this show appears as both a bootlegged video & audio cd, I have had several people emailing me already for it...Would make for an interesting show.

He's an actor, was on some TV shows here (he's a comedian) but most recently co-starred with Tom Cruise in "Collateral"
