Can I get any love for Affairs of the Heart?

I have loved this song since the first time I heard it. Even though it is about a very hard subject for Stevie i still love it. Its a christmas time song for me though. Stevie definitly should have done this live at one point.

I like this song.

I have a very soft spot for this song. It's so gauzy and languid (I mean that in a good way). I really like ALL of Stevies' songs from Behind the Mask.

A very, very underrated album if you ask me. Yeah, she was waayyyy Klonopined out, but it was nowhere near the catastrophe that was Street Angel.

"But I knew that this was just for now....
And that time would take it's toll upon us all...
Well, it would break our hearts- and tear them apart
But no one understands the affairs of the heart...."

It's kind of a sad, wistful song now that I think about it.

Never cared for the song as released on Behind The Mask, but yeah, the outtakes gave me new appreciation for the song...and wondered why the OUTTAKES weren't used for the album?

Definitely one of my favourites too.Always has been

wow

I was singing this to myself the other day. It is a great song.

I'm not sure what you mean about it being a hard subject for stevie. Could you explain?I've never read her speak about the story behind it.

I think it is about Betty Ford. "I wonder which set of rooms is mine? In these rooms we will live and die". See what I mean?

I like it. :) Probably her best from Behind the Mask.

Whenever I listen to it, though, it reminds me of the song parodies we did on Mick's board to piss off The Knight before we were all banned.

"Yes, it's better to have brushed than flossed..."

Of course it is!!!

Wow

Wow, I never thought I would get this much positive feedback from everyone! EVEN DISSENTION! ;)

Yes this will always be one of my fav stevie tunes ever. It is about Betty Ford. It seems like just the first verse though. The chorus seems like its about a relationship. It seems to drift but yes i agree her BEST from Behind the Mask.

Thanks diamondsnake... makes sense. :)

Of the four songs she wrote for Behind The Mask, I like "Freedom" the best; but this one is absolutely great, and I love it. I think it's very underrated, even among fans, and the outtakes made me appreciate it much more! :)

It simply can't be worse than Freedom or Love Is Dangerous. Those songs are embarassing!

Johnny Stew 09-14-2004 08:46 PM

"Freedom" is my favorite Stevie song on 'Behind The Mask,' but "Affairs Of The Heart" is pretty terrific.

It's all jangly and twangy, and I dig it. (Though I agree that the outtake versions/mixes are even better.) :)

I'd actually never heard this one until I went and bought BTM, but I gotta admit that it's totally awesome. I love the melody and everything in it. The outtakes are really impressive as well... I almost like them more! :D

mylittledemon 09-19-2004 04:23 PM

I like the words to the song too. My favorite part is "Well its better to have loved and lost, than to always be alone......in your heart..." The way she stresses that "in your heart" part is what I like.

well noithing she did on BTM was that great, but the 2 you just mentioned are her 2 better songs of the 4 she did. The Second Time of course is the worst thing ever recorded in Fleetwood Mac's history, and AOTH is not far behind.

strandinthewind 09-19-2004 07:41 PM

I LOVE THE SECOND TIME

I freely admit it aint that great musically, but I still like it!!!!!! Maybe it was what I was going through at the time I first heard it - but it and its mundane quality will always have a special place with me!!!

I like The Second Time. The music sucks and her voice sucks, but it's earnest and intimate.

And the worst songs ever recorded by Fleetwood Mac are No Questions Asked, When I See You Again, Temporary One, and that old bitch Mrs. Scarrot.

Even the NQA that was avail as a boot last month - the one where her vocals are prominent and she starts it with a vivid "No Questions Asked" - I love that one but am not wild about the CD cut.

I don't like any of them. The outtakes are MUCH BETTER than the album cut, but they're all still lazy and dull.

When I first heard No Questions Asked, I found it rather jarring. I had listened to a CD full of fantastic songs, then came to that one. Can we say uninspired?
