What song would you choose for the SYW album title?
 

Can't remember if this was already asked.

Say you will is a cool single, though it's the less mystic Stevie song I have hear. Mystic, dark, mistrerious is usually a Stevie style (Sisters of the moon, Sara, GDW..).

Does anybody know why they choose this song for the album title?

And.. what song from the album would you have chosen for the album title?
My choice could be between Destiny Rules and Running Through the Garden.

By the way, does anybody know why they choose Tango in the night for that album title?

I think I might choose Steal Your Heart Away :) Although in my mind that would be a hard choice.

Hmm...I would tend to guess SYW was chosen as the title because it was seen as a "strong song" and/or because of the subject matter: "It always seems to heal the wounds if I can get you to dance". The song has a feel of optimism in the future of FM to me. If another song were to be the title, it would HAVE to be Destiny Rules. Though I "get" why SYW was chosen based on the song, I think DR is a much better title standing alone, and very appropriate for FM. I think someone before has suggested a good title would have been Twist Of Fate, and I think that is excellent, especially with Stevie and Lindsey returning to their B/N dynamic.

I've never heard a specific account of why TITN was named so. I think it's a good album title and sticks with that "mysticism" that we expect from the band.

I was just thining about this yesterday.... I was wondering if there was a few songs put up as contenders and a band vote!

I like Say You Will.. Althou Destiny Rules is good too.. They should have or could have done "What's the World Coming To" and that would have been kind of funny in a way.

"Destiny Rules" seems most fitting to me.

Destiny Rules is too hokey, IMO.

It seems to me that "Destiny Rules" makes the most sense, because it's the whole 'holy crap they still managed to get back together and record an album' notion. The idea of endurance, that destiny does rule and that this band lives on.

All I know for sure is that "Murrow Turning Over In His Grave" is probably the worst choice out of them all :-) What a weird album title that would have been.

For the same reason I suggested "What's The World Coming To"... In a tongue in cheek kind of way :laugh:

What's The World Coming To is a good title. Little too long to put in that little box in the corner during music videos. Oh wait, they don't make videos.

Ummm, Destiny Rules sounds sort of cheesy if you haven't heard how beautiful and catchy the song is...

They made a music video for Peacekeeper, don't you remember how great that was?

'Destiny Rules' is, to me, the best choice. The title says it all. 'What's The World Coming To' wouldn't have been a bad choice either.

I didn't like 'Say You Will' as an album title at first, but it's since grown on me... because I think it has a nice amount of ambiguity to it.

'Come' as a Fleetwood Mac album title? No thanks.
They've already named an album after a penis euphemism, so let's skip the orgasm euphemism. They're not Mötley Crüe, thank you very much. :)

Destiny Rules sounds cheesy as hell, IMO, just as cheesy as Say You Will.

Come is short and sweet (shut up, you wise asses) and sounds less flakey.

The album is named, so it really doesn't matter much.
But 'Come' sounds too pedestrian when taken in one context, and too crass when taken in the other context.

One can find crassness everywhere they turn, and, as I said, Fleetwood Mac is not some cocky, let's-get-laid heavy metal band. They can do better than an album titled 'Come,' in my opinion.

Is it any more "cheesy" than Mirage, The Wild Heart, etc.? Just wondering how you feel about those titles. :shrug:

Come as a title would better represent the album than Destiny Rules. Destiny Rules sounds like it could be the name of a cheesy, early-nineties pop album by Belinda Carlisle. :sorry:

However, I highly doubt that upon first hearing of the title, people would think of it in a crass way. It's Fleetwood Mac, for cripes sake.

No, I think those titles represent their respective albums well, whereas Say You Will does not. It's too sunny for such a dark album.

Also, I think Illume would have been a great title for the album. :nod:

"Destiny Rules" would make a statement... "Come" is just a lonely verb, without anything to qualify it.
'Mirage' and 'Rumours' were effective because they're nouns... not just because they were "short and sweet" titles.

There is absolutely no way you can use "Come" as a stand-alone word, and not have people's minds automatically go to the gutter.

Heck, even 70 year old grandmothers reading trashy romance novels, know what "come" stands for!

Although with that title, FM might have sold an additional 200 albums to horny 15 year old boys. :) :laugh:

Now that you mention it, "Illume" is WAY better than "Destiny Rules" as a title. For sure.

But "Destiny Rules" is still a better and more fitting title than "Come," in my opinion. :)

Illume is a beautiful word, but I can see it more as a Stevie solo album title than FM. I thought I liked it as a title for a second, but I actually kinda think that one is cheesy...sounds like an Enya album or something. :sorry: :)

And what's this about a Peacekeeper music video...I've never heard of it, I actually don't think that would be such a bad name for the album. My favourite would be Running Through The Garden or Everybody Finds Out :shocked: Everbody Finds Out, I just think thats brilliant.

Regardless if the song itself is torturous, the title "From A Distance" worked great, IMO.

Stevie can save those flakey statements for a solo album. Great song, terrible name. It's just soooooooooo cheesy.

I'd have to go with Thrown Down because it's edgy, dark, and would have gone beautifully with the cover since it looks like they were all thrown down on the ground. You could also say that they've thrown down a good beat.

Come would be a good title too, but perhaps too risque. Destiny Rules would be gag-inducing.

Everybody Finds Out would be kind of cool too.

But no matter what, Say You Will is an awful title, and I bet it has cost a few sales.

Ahhhh, now there you go.

It wasn't much of a music video...but it was one...It was a video from the Tour rehearsals (although they were much more done up than they usually are in rehearsals)...of them performing the song..it was released on VH1...played a little bit around the time SYW came out...nice little video I guess.. couldve been much more...and the good part is in the end, a nice hug b/w Stevie and Lindsey and Stevie laughs and goes "do these guys know eachother?"

Running Through the Garden - definitely a Stevie solo album title, not FM, too feminine.

Thrown Down - great song and excellent song writing IMO but too negative for a title.

Everybody Finds Out - more great song writing, another one of my fav's....title though, maybe.

I think out of all the song titles, it would have to be Destiny Rules, although Steal Your Heart Away sounds kind of good & could mean "let us steal your heart away for awhile, while you listen to this".

I'd vote for "Come," too -- why not try to generate sales? It worked for "Ulysses"!

"Destiny Rules" has always baffled me: is "rules" supposed to be a verb ("destiny rules our lives") or a noun ("traffic rules")? I think it's just another senseless nothing of a phrase, the sort of phrase you'd find in a junior high yearbook next to your classmate's signature. It's vapid (when anyone starts talking about destiny, I generally check out) but it's nonetheless the kind of thing that strikes lots of people as profound.

Of course, maybe Stevie had the right idea when she wrote: My destiny says that I'm destined to come.

Or, conversely, too evocative of manure.

Wow, not much love for the more metaphysical titles. "Flakey." "Too Feminine." "Vapid." :shrug:

I guess I just prefer titles that are more evocative and perhaps a little more "romantic," than those that lean towards the masculine or the aggressive, or towards mundanity.

Maybe it's the hippy in me. :)
