What are you?

So, I went into the city tonight and there are tons of tourists not just from this country but from out of the country as well. Then, I came home and turned on the opening ceremonies of the Olympics and it got me thinking...what nationality/nationalities are everyone made up of? Me, i'm Italian (dad is 100%, biological grandfather still lives in Italy) as well as Irish, German, Scottish, French (and that's all we've traced...my mom's side is very confusing). What about you?

Merf 08-13-2004 10:39 PM

Dad's side- English 100%

Mom's side- Scotch-Irish 100%

I'm boring. :o

GypsySorcerer 08-13-2004 10:48 PM

I am 50% Italian; the rest is German, English, and Irish, about equal parts.

WelshWitchPMD 08-13-2004 10:49 PM

Italian on my Father's side and my Mom was Irish.

EnchantedSLN 08-13-2004 10:59 PM

Turkish & Cuban on my mother's side. My dad's side gets a bit complicated.

GateandGarden 08-13-2004 11:04 PM

I'm sure there's more to it than what I know, but I know my Mom's side is mostly English, while my Dad's is mostly French and Native American.

Jason T. 08-14-2004 07:44 AM

Same thing here except my mom is the Cherokee and my dad is the German. :p

DeeGeMe 08-14-2004 11:20 AM

Father: Irish, English, and French
Mother: Irish, English, and French

So I guess that makes me 1/3 Irish, 1/3 English, and 1/3 French!

ontheEdgeof17 08-14-2004 12:33 PM

Mom's side: Pure Irish
Dad's side: German

This means I can drink anyone under the table. :wavey:

87,5% Finnish. 12,5% comes from a shady Russian salesman who sometimes crossed the border for the good old "in-and-out" game. This should explain the content of most of my posts. :p

I'm an American Mutt, predominately English and Irish if you look back far enough, some native American, along with a few scoundrals. Some of my American ancestors date back prior to colonial times.

sara1998 08-14-2004 04:19 PM

My great grandparents on my dad's side came over from Germany, and I don't know how far back my family on my mom's side came over, but they are German, too. So, I guess I'm an AMERICAN with at little bit of German in me.

oh good grief this is getting far too technical for me!!

To set the record straight, I'm a white kiwi, my mum is an Aussie and both grannies came from the Uk ( how mixed up British they were, I have no idea!)

That's what i thought - you notice the Americans mainly say they are Italian, or German, or Irish, or whatever...I thought the Aussies and New Zealanders would do the same thing, since it is a settled country in the same way. Unless, of course, they said "I'm native australian" Like i am native american...see?

celestenadia 08-15-2004 07:39 PM

1/2 Germanic stock
1/2 Galician(it's like a mixture of Polish/Ukrainian),White Russian ancestry
AND I'm 1/64 Sicilian - don't laugh, a doctor told me I have a gene that's only found in Greeks, Sicilians and Blacks and after interrogating my mother and father I found out from my father that one of my great-grandmother's great-grandmothers fled Siracusa Sicily during the Napoleonic Wars and settled in the Ukraine because the farming was good. I did my math and challenged him on how it could be great-granny's great-grandmother and he reminded me that back then, women had babies when they were like 15 years old and that was it. Another interesting tidbit, one of my great-grandfathers was Belgium's ambassador to Ceylon/Sri Lanka.

macmar71 08-15-2004 09:51 PM

Jessica Leigh 08-16-2004 02:00 PM

mostly german....

my dad is 100% german (and he's 3rd generation too, kind of hard to be 100% after that many generations in the U.S. but my family seeks them out for breeding purposes or something... all the women are blond haired, blue eyed, short, and fat... and can make a good strudel and drink a lot of beer- and the men are all tall basketball players)

my mother is french and dutch, a bit of german and a bit of irish and english. good grief with her hot headed frenchman temper, and irish temper.... watch out!

so, I'm more than half german, equal parts french of dutch, and some irish and english.
