My favorites are Henri Matisse, Jean Cocteau, and Paul Gauguin. I have their stuff all over my apartment. The ones I'm especially fond of are Mattisse's "Blue Nudes." I have a framed poster about six feet tall of a shot of inside Cocteau's house that highlights all the found objects he encased in plaster, it's stunning and I have it hanging so you can see it right when you walk in. I have one of Matisse's Blue Nudes mounted on a lightbox in my living room and three Gauguin's in my bedroom. I even have one of Matisse's Dance prints in my office. My favorite style is impressionism, it's beautiful. I also love photography and have a few Mapplethorpe photos framed, too (none of the nasty ones  ). My favorite museum is the Met. I could spend hours in there. I am artistic. ;) I have to be to do what I do for a living. A few months ago, I tried my hand at painting one of Matisse's works on my wall in my bedroom and it came out very nicely. |
Rene Magritte. I was so happy when FM did the "Hold Me" video and it was based on Rene Magritte's work.

My favorite Artists are
Dali and My Mom I also like Maxfield Parrish I like surrealist but have liked a lot of different everything over the years. I don't like it when people get snobby about art, because i don't think people should dictate beauty. I don't really like the art from the 50's, I guess Pollack and stuff? Just paint splatters and shapes, etc? That is probably my least favorite style. Might like it more if they used prettier colors  Amber |
favorite artists:
Wassily Kandinsky - ever since I saw Six Degrees of Separation (the Kandinsky has two sides..) I have loved his work... Van Gogh - even though it's become all trendy to like his stuff, Cafe Terrace at Night is the first painting I ever fell in love with. Michael Sowa Magritte There are some paintings I love but whose artists I can't think of/don't know... And lastly, my nephew is my favorite artist of all...I love all his little drawings (which are always of animals) I can draw cartoony things but not like real and realistic type things.... |
My favorite artist is Dali (hi Amber! :wavey: ). I love surrealistic artwork.
Am I artistic? NOT AT ALL! |

I took an art history class in college and found it incredibly fascinating. I've been to Le Musée d'Orsay, The Louvre, and of course the Philadelphia Art Museum. The Louvre is completely overwhelming. I wasn't a big fan of that place except for it's architecture. However, it did have some beautiful pieces of art...I just didn't see them all. Le Musée d'Orsay is absolutely amazing. It houses a lot of Van Gogh, Manet, Monet, and Renoir...some of my favorites...and it small enough so you can take it all in. I took a few art classes when I was younger. Back in high school I had a day planner with scenes around France. I used to get really bored during one particular class so I took out paper and starting drawing the scenes in the planner. I was really good friends with my French teacher so she took it and it's still hanging up in her classroom. My parents have absolutely no artistic ability but my dads brothers daughter is an art student. I guess it skipped our fathers  |

A lot of my students are into Impressionism. I think there's something very fetching & imaginative about it to kids. Which Matisse did you paint on your wall? - Jake |

And hey, just because it's not realistic doesn't mean you're not making art, right? - Jake |

Fans of surrealism seem to be pretty gung-ho for it. Kind of like Stevie or Lindsey fans. - Jake |

http://www.geocities.com/Paris/LeftB...8/matbeast.jpg I used tissue paper to give it texture instead of just literally painting it onto a wall. I have venetian plaster walls, so it came out really nice. I got rid of the tan background so it just looks like two pillars next to each other. |

Can't say I know just what Venetian plaster is (other than plaster from Venice, I assume), but as long as you like it, good. One of the great things about art is that it brings out people's passions. And I like the idea of personalizing a place of residence. (Usually, at least. Remember that St. Elmo's Fire apartment with the horrible giant Billy Idol painting right on the wall? ) - Jake |

My favorite painting of all time is "Tiger In A Tropical Storm (Surprise!)" by Henri Rousseau. My favorite artist is Rousseau. I saw Monet's "Waterlilies" at a traveling exhibit called "The Heroes of the 20th Century". I also saw Rousseau's "The Dream" and Van Gogh's "Starry Night". That exhibit kicked major a**!! I would love to see the "Mona Lisa" before I die. My favorite art museum is the Louvre, even though I never went there... Artistic? A little... |

Favorite work seen in person? I was choked up getting to see a lot of the Greek antiquities in the British Museum, and some of the really old Babylonian/Ninevah, Egyptian stuff there. I saw some amazing stuff in Berlin- the Pergamon Altar was cool. I saw Neferti in Berlin as well. The Louve Museum was amazing- Mona Lisa was small! The Flying Victory Statue was probably my favorite. Traveling to see these things at the end of college was a "must do" for me, and a serious part of my own continuing ed. I figured I might not to get to do it later when tied down working, etc. What one work do you hope to see before you die? It's not really a work of art I guess, and the work wasn't exactly fair, but I'd like to see the Great Pyramids/Sphinx in Gaza. I don't think that's ever going to happen. What's your favorite art museum? The Louvre. Are you artistic? Nope! Maybe autistic at times! ;) |
