Which Songs Have Made You Cry?

Okay...so I'm depressed today for a few reasons so I decided for therapy I would watch The Dance, which I haven't watched since I got LIB. So...I found myself crying over a lot of the songs, and it's not the first time.

Which FM/solo songs have made you cry?

Mine:
-The Chain(The Dance): When they get to that solo and you just realize this was the "band" song and through all of the crap they've been through that chain is still there...it can get to me.
-Gypsy: My friend moved away. I sat at my computer and listened to the long version and cried.
-Sara: This song just seems to apply to every thing that happens to me. That to me is the ultimate in good music...if it can mean different things to different people.
-Landslide: Well, I've been afraid of CHANGING, and I'm getting older...
-Hold Me: At that guitar solo before the last chorus. I don't have a clue why but it gets to me.

MirrorInTheSky 07-16-2004 12:25 PM

Dreams: The first time I was up close at an FM concert, I just broke down. What a beautiful song, and Stevie was singing it right there!!

Landslide: It's become the anthem of my life.

Silver Springs: What an emotional rollercoaster of a song dripping with bittersweet tears.

Tusk as a package.
Bleed to love her.
I'm so afraid.
Landslide

Never going back again

That's funny, I cried walking to work today while listening to Insider. Just cause it was incredibly beautiful and sweeping. Usually cry if I sing Goodbye, baby. Sometimes for Storms, sometimes for Beautiful Child.

Silver Springs--because it is a release of Stevie's accumulation of years worth of pent up feelings for Lindsey. Anyone who's ever been in that intense of a relationship can relate to it one way or another. ;)

Maker of Birds--not really because of the lyrics, but because of the way she's singing with such pathos, and how she kind of breaks down toward the end of it.

Nightbird--Because of he subject matter: death, grieving, rememberence, rebirth...it's all about "cycles."

Bella Donna--"But the woman is so tired, ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Oh how I can relate.

Storms--I don't think much explanation is necessary here.

Beautiful Child--It's so "beautiful" is sad.

GypsySorcerer 07-16-2004 01:11 PM

Landslide -- hearing it on CD, in concert, on DVD....always.

Beautiful Child -- live, especially.

Songbird -- The Dance version really gets to me.

DrummerDeanna 07-16-2004 01:12 PM

Hmm...

Storms
I'm so Afraid
Beautiful Child
Rhiannon (the first time I saw Stevie do it live...)

In a word...

NONE.

Generally FM songs don't make me emotional whatsoever, 'Nuff said...

A) Then why do you like them?
B) I hope something does, cause crying is good for you. Releases stress and tension and all that. Faster than yoga! :D

Can't say FM songs have brought tears to my eyes ever. But some that have:

Brothers in Arms, Dire Straits
Trista Pena, The Gipsy Kings

Others give me chills:

Breathe, Maria McKee
Red Rover
I'm So Afraid
Say Goodbye

estranged4life 07-16-2004 01:45 PM

Never said I didn't...

like 'em did I? Their songs are different on a musical level compared to other classic rock artists (ie-Female lead vocals), But they do not affect my to the point of tears.

B) I work out by walking a minimum 5 miles a day and work...Anything else you need to know?

I agree with Dire Straits' "Brothers In Arms"...Especially the video to the song, The animation of lead on paper is one the best videos I recall EVER seeing.

Carolina Girl 07-16-2004 01:49 PM

Landslide
Bleed to Love Her
Beautiful Child

I'm sure there are others, but these are the ones I can think of immediately.

uh, i know you didn't say you didn't like them, I wondered why you liked them if they didn't make you emotional. I, too, appreciate them musically. When i cried this morning from Insider, it was because the vocal harmony was so beautiful No, I don't need to know anything else at all, ever. thankssomuch.

So far only 'Storms', 'Songbird' and 'HAEWAFY'.

iamiona 07-16-2004 02:11 PM

Why
Beautiful Child (especially live; at my last FM concert, I just burst into tears during this song)
Someone's Gotta Change Your Mind (live at Soundstage)
I am Waiting (live at Soundstage)

darklinensuit 07-16-2004 02:43 PM

Honestly, none of them. :wavey:

- Jake and his Heart Of Stone

pianogirl04 07-16-2004 02:55 PM

HAEWAFY and Beautiful Child both hold the potential to make me cry... but especially HAEWAFY. Just thinking about it makes me tear up.

DrummerDeanna 07-16-2004 03:21 PM

Oh yeah! Forgot about HAEWAFY....my sister once wrote it out and gave it to me...I was going through a rough time...that totally made me cry...

pianogirl04 07-16-2004 03:25 PM

It just occurred to me that there might be a reason HAEWAFY makes me cry... When I was little, I would cry over music boxes. Maybe I had the idea that it wasn't a box that played music, but music trapped in a box that wanted out and couldn't be free. :( It's a beautiful song regardless and I love it, but I'm thinking that might have something to do with it.

Silver Springs (the Lindsey/Stevie story)

Beautiful Child - a sombre song but so lovely too.

Say Goodbye - Because I think Lindsey and Stevie are still in love especially in their own little world when they perform this and look at each other the way they do.

Beauty and The Beast - Because she is singing about Mick, I love the "Stevie Live at Red Rocks" version, outstanding performance of this song.

Yeah. I don't think I've actually cried over that one, but the strings really get to me. It's something you don't really hear in too much Mac stuff, and it's something I really love in music.

The ending is just so sad.

Cristian 07-16-2004 06:14 PM

Ah, "Songbird". Perhaps it's only because of the moment I was living, which was pretty bad. And that song was sort of 'wake up, somebody loves you anyway'. A gorgeous voice, a majestic piano... a really meaningful song to me, and still the only one that has actually made me explode into tears. :)

jadegypsy 07-16-2004 06:40 PM

songs

Not many which makes the mac kinda unique, since most artist don't make cry at all...

Beautiful Child: only live.
Goodbye Baby: live
Nomad: can't explain.
Edge of 17: mostly b/c of when I discovered it.
HAEWAFY: so very sad...
Say Goodbye: The lyrics are so very sad...

Serrart 07-16-2004 06:42 PM

These always make me very emotional:

Beautiful Child: it helped me to go through a tough period
Storms
Goodbye Baby (especially on Destiny Rules doc)
Why
Sara - Madison 2004: I've only heard the bootleg, but it moved me the way she performed it and the reaction of the crowd
Christian
Space Needle

Romy

chiliD 07-16-2004 06:46 PM

Ahhhh...crap...ok, I'll admit it...

When they walked out on stage at the Don Kirshner Show taping in 1974 (the first time I ever saw them live & in person) I got pretty emotional...yeah, yeah, an 18 year old kid, with tears streamin' down his face... By the end of the first song, tears gone...I was partyin'!!!

:blob2:

...then, the first time I heard the studio version of "I'm So Afraid", I welled up.

Then in 1998 at the Long Beach Blues Festival, seeing Peter Green up there on-stage for the first time in my life, never EVER thinking I would ever see him in person, in his bright red shirt, playing "Albatross", "The Supernatural", "Rattlesnake Shake", "Green Manalishi", I had such tears of joy just cascading down my cheeks.

There, I came clean...you happy now? :( ( )

Lala 07-16-2004 06:52 PM

Not to get too gushy, but I think this thread is so beautiful. It's so great that FM can touch us and move us on so many different levels.

mylittledemon 07-16-2004 11:35 PM

Now, I don't cry everytime I hear these tunes, but they at some point have made me tear up...

MacTunes:
Sara
Songbird
Crystal
Landslide
Say Goodbye
Silver Springs
Beautiful Child
Storms
Never Going Back Again

Stevietunes:
Talk to Me
Has Anyone Ever Written Anything
Reconsider Me

Lindseytunes:

OK sue me, but music typically doesn't make me cry. Puppy getting run over by a car, maybe, baby gets thrown in a trash can by her mother to die, 8 person masacre up in california, all tear inducing. I don't hear Lindsey doing an INCREDIBLE guitar solo and say man that guitar solo rocks so hard it makes me want to cry its so great. Or Stevie's vocal is just so danmed emotional and touching on Beautiful Child, It just makes me want to cry. So I just can't relate to you guys listing all these freaking songs that make you cry. There songs make me feel many things, but sadness and tears aint one of them. So I don';t care how sad some people think Goodbye Baby is, unless Stevie dies while she's performing it live I aint crying from it :sorry:

wondergirl9847 07-17-2004 12:09 AM

It's no secret...LOL

ISA (lots of versions)
Red Rover (I weeped like a goof at the Dallas show. LOL)

mylittledemon 07-17-2004 12:11 AM

Well i don't cry at the drop of a hat either...BUT...usually I relate songs such as the ones I listed above to times of sadness in my life. You know, breaking up with someone or something like that. The songs usually REMIND me of sad experiences, etc.

Wild_Heart03 07-17-2004 04:28 PM

rezamatic 07-17-2004 04:34 PM

Lindsey's guitar work paired up with Stevie's lyrics work SO well to kick emotions into full swing. But we already knew that  No songs have actually pushed me to tears, but many have come mighty close!

Songbird
Goodbye Baby
Never Make Me Cry (great on those long late-night drives)
Turn It On
Sentimental Lady
And for some reason the guitar on As Long As You Follow hits me right in the back of my throat in that 'aw crap I'm gonna well up' spot

Watching Lindsey practically crying when they played "Tusk" in The Dance was so emotional. It's the moment that got me into the band, really. Seeing him being able to finally play it live with a marching band and being SO emotional about it (even afterwards when they started "Don't Stop") was great.

When I saw them live for the first time ever and heard the entire crowd singing along to Go Your Own Way, that was as close as I came to tears. The song itself never pushed me to waterworks but it was just such a kick-ass moment to hear EVERYBODY together during the chorus.

Yep, I'm a sissy. So be it.

Bryan 07-17-2004 06:49 PM

Real Tears?

I could never cry for any Fleetwood Mac songs 'cos they all make me so damned happy!!
But if any came close it's Man Of The World.
