Chemical Peels

Ever had one? I had one done this morning and got a little over-zealous, so my face looks like someone threw boiling water on it.

Yes. But I've never done it myself. You're splotchy for a few days, then your skin looks fine.

estranged4life 07-12-2004 11:03 AM

Nope...

but I once had Chromium Oxide dye splattered onto my back at work and it peeled me like a banana.

Nothing like having something burn you so bad that yer instantly blistered and yet feel so frikkin' ice cold as it does so...

I didn't do it myself, the woman who did didn't put enough stuff on my face, so I told her to put more. She put on more than enough. If I had done it myself, I would've burned my skin off.

Boy, it is some uncomfortable ****.

I used to get these semi-regularly at the derm's as part of a treatment. For god sake, don't forget to put sunscreen on!! Well, unless you want to help yourself become a super wrinkle puss... :D

What are the benefits of a chemical peel? I've never had one.

Me neither. The idea is scary to me.

It takes off the dead icky layers of your skin, therefore it cleans it a lot. If you have a clogged pore problem, a series of them can really help. For people without acne, it just brings out a fresh clean layer of your skin, is supposed to minimize the appearance of wrinkles and aging because of that. It's a pretty good treatment, overall. If you have sensitive skin or absolutely no problems with the appearance of your skin, I wouldn't really recommend them. Maybe once a year or something.

I don't think they're legal in Austin anyway. ;) Come to Houston. You get them just by walking through the air down here. :wavey:

No, I'd never have Botox. Botox comes from the fungus that grows in canned food. And every time I hear Botox, I think of Nip/Tuck when Christian got an injection into his crotch.

I take good care of my skin, I've used Roc and Serious Skin Care for YEARS. I don't have a single wrinkle and I look like I'm 12. I just had it done this morning because I wanted to see what it was like and everyone has dead skin they need taken off. ;) And I can't believe I paid $90 to look like I slept on rotten strawberries.

Johnny Stew 07-12-2004 02:42 PM

I wash my face with Noxema... that's the extent of my "beauty treatment."
Beyond that, I have good genes and just plan on growing older gracefully.

Didn't they give you the little fan? I had one nurse who used to use dry ice. That worked well.

Yup, and they gave me one of those cold masks for afterwards. The redness is finally going away, thank god.

I'm a 'toxer from way back. There is that little thing between my eyebrows, that crease thing. When it starts to reappear, off I go. Works good on the crows feet too. It makes you look more relaxed. Who wants to look like they're 40, raised a kid by themselves, worked their ass off and partied just a tad too much back in the day? I sure the hell don't. Besides, meeting with my clients and presenting a calm, pleasant appearance is part of my business. Listen to Mother Teresa (Heinz).

I can't go with chemical peels. I have to have dermabrasion. My acne scars are deep, so chemical peels won't work. Dermabrasion is where they literally take a "sander" to the top layers. I don't look forward to going to the dermatologist, because it requires you to take a few weeks off from work. I'm still debating on whether I really want to do this...

And, gldstwmn, you do look very nice. I could have sworn you weren't over 29! ;)

Does dermabrasion have the same after effects (redness, splotchiness, irritation) as a chemical peel? I'm interested in this myself...

More power to ya, darling. I think the biggest thing that freaks me out is that it's the fungus from inside your canned foods. And I am petrified of needles, too!!!!!!

It's mildly irritating but the results are worth it. I've done a combination where they dermabrase then peel.

It doesn't even hurt. It takes like one second. It's not fungus from canned foods silly. It's the same thing but that's not where they get it. It's also extremely diluted.
Now collagen and fillers on the other hand-anytime anyone tells me that it requires a "block" for the pain it automatically reminds me of childbirth. And those needles are big. Can't do it. :distress:

I would stay out of any "natural" body of water in or around the Houston area. :D ;)

I've had saline instead of collagen and it didn't hurt one bit. I was in a car accident and split my bottom lip really badly and it didn't heal correctly, so I had the saline injections to even it out. It lasted for about two months, during which the lip healed...thank god. Worked wonders.

If I can find a pic of myself with the saline lip, I'll post it. You can't even tell that anything is wrong with it!!!

Kind of related topic: has anyone tried Strivectin? It is a cream that was originally marketed for reducing the appearance of stretch marks, but now people are using it for wrinkles. The ad copy says it is "better than Botox." It's $135 for six ounces, with a money back guarantee.
