Run do not walk to purchase this post haste. IT TOTALLY ROCKS!!!! Anyone else heard it yet?

Can't wait for the tour! It's gonna be a mindblower for sure.

I didn't even realize Heart was doing a new album until I saw it in the Best Buy ad. I'm planning on getting it this weekend.

you cannot just recommend an album without an apparent reason, details please.
is it Dreamboat-Annie-good or Brigade-"good"?

Uh....do you even have to ask? It's more like Dreamboat Annie meets Bebe Le Strange meets Little Queen meets Dog and Butterfly. Let me put it this way, they've definitely gotten back to their 70's hard rock roots. There's also a bit of acoustic stuff thrown in, a ballad or two, and Nancy sings on a few songs--(she sounds great btw). I think there are 16 songs on the album, looks like they took the Fleetwood Mac approach in pushing it as far as it would go before becoming a double album. I am impressed with every song so far, I've only gotten a chance to hear about half of it, just got it last night. Ann's voice is AMAZING!!!! Absolutely sublime! She hasn't lost any of her powerhouse vocals. I just can't say enough wonderful things about this album!

amber 06-24-2004 11:53 AM

I heard a couple songs last night on the radio from it, they were a little more acoustic, which I don't prefer, but they really sounded great and i liked them. I don't really buy hardly any CD's, but i'm gonna get this. The song i heard sounded very "new" if you know what i mean, but better because Anne's voice is, of course, the best ever.

I really need to get this cd! I heard/read such good things about it I can't wait to get it! :D

Hooray! :blob1: I'm leaving for the music store NOW!

BTW, does Heart have a new website? I had a link for an old one, and it's gone...

Yeah, it used to be www.annandnancy.com but it changed to something like, www.heart-music.com (not sure if that's exact or not).

Thanks, I found it. You had it right: http://www.heart-music.com

I'm glad they put up a new site, it's pretty slick! (A much better website than a certain OTHER band who shall remain nameless...). They have audio clips of the entire album, and some really cool photos and wallpapers of the band having fun with sparklers.

I'm glad they put up the audio clips - I checked my bank account before leaving after my last post, and guess what: empty! But at least I got to hear snippets until I can get outta the poorhouse. The music sounds great -- can't wait for the tour! It'll be my first time seeing them live (after missing them the last 3 or 4 times they were in Houston). I'll most likely go to The Backyard show in Austin -- a beautiful, oak-tree lined outdoor venue that's really small and intimate -- which should be perfect for my first dose of ear/brain damage from Ann's voice.

Yes! I will be there too. The Backyard is head and shoulders above the venue I saw them at last summer (Billy Bob's in Ft. Worth...blech!) during the Alive in Seattle Tour. I could barely see them, but they looked and sounded AMAZING!!! And those women can MOVE, I have never seen so much dancing, and jumping on stage in my life. They really get into their performance.

dissention 06-24-2004 02:03 PM

I can't believe they're coming to my area to play at The Big E in September for only $5. I am so going and bringing my camcorder.

darklinensuit 06-24-2004 02:06 PM

I still haven't been to The Backyard. Maybe I'll check it out for this show.

EveryHour 06-24-2004 02:18 PM

I can't wait to get this today! I've been hearing the new songs live for over a year now (What can I say? When you live in Seattle, you see a lot of Heart shows!;)), and I love them all! At a show last month, I thought Ann said the album was going to be called Jupiter's Dawning, which made me want to puke, so I was glad to hear it was in fact "Darling":). Their setlist this year is awesome, although I prefer when they don't do the slow part in Crazy On You for whatever reason. Mostly the same as last year, but the running order is tons better, IMO. Even It Up and Wild Child were the show-stoppers for me. You also can't beat them rockin' the Zeppelin!

dissention 06-24-2004 02:23 PM

I'd pay big money to see them perform Black On Black Part 2, lemme tell ya. That's always been a fave, no matter how cheesy.

Yeah...they've completely neglected that album as of late.

I'd love to hear Stranded, no matter how cheesy.;)

(Obviously they are capable of overcoming that factor since they do play Wild Child...)

Johnny Stew 06-24-2004 03:13 PM

So far I've only heard snippets of the songs on the new album, but I love what I hear.
To me, the music sounds closest to the feel of 'Dog & Butterfly,' with a bit of 'Bebe le Strange' in there.

(Incidentally, expanded & remastered versions of 'Little Queen,' 'Dog & Butterfly' and 'Bebe le Strange' are being released next Tuesday.)

Oh, and I wish they would perform stuff from 'Desire Walks On,' too... it's my favorite Heart album. :D

Johnny Stew 06-24-2004 03:16 PM

(Here's an article from Billboard about the expanded/remastered CDs... and, by the way, the European editions of 'Jupiter's Darling,' have two bonus tracks. So major Heart fans might want to seek that out, instead of the domestic version.)

Epic Expands Vintage Heart Albums

Epic/Legacy has set a June 29 release date for expanded editions of three vintage Heart albums: 1977's "Little Queen," 1978's "Dog & Butterfly" and 1980's "Bebe Le Strange." All three sets sport a handful of previously unreleased tracks from archives of the Ann and Nancy Wilson-led group.

"Little Queen" is best known for the hard-rocking single "Barracuda," which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100. The set has been expanded to include a cover of Led Zeppelin's "Stairway to Heaven" recorded in 1976 at an unknown club in Vancouver, plus a home demo of album track "Love Alive" titled "Too Long a Time."

"Dog & Butterfly" notched two singles within the top 40 of the Hot 100, the breezy title cut (No. 34) and the more rock-oriented "Straight On" (No. 15). The new edition sports a 1978 live recording of "Heartless," the previously unreleased "A Little Bit" and "Feels," which was later reworked for "Johnny Moon," from 1983's "Passionworks."

"Bebe Le Strange" achieved a then career-best No. 5 showing on The Billboard 200 upon its March 1980 release, thanks in part to the single "Even It Up," which reached No. 33 on the Hot 100. The previously unreleased tracks "Jackleg Man" and the live "Break" are included as bonus cuts.

As previously reported, Heart will on June 22 release its first new studio album in nearly 10 years, "Jupiter's Darling," via Sovereign Artists. The group begins a European tour June 3 in Dublin and will hit the U.S. beginning July 22 in Redmond, Wash.

Have you ever seen Almost Famous? Nancy's husband directed it and on the "Bootleg Edition" DVD, there's a scene on it where they wanted to use Stairway To Heaven, but couldn't afford the rights (they wanted mucho cash). He should've used the version his wife's band did.

Their harmonies on "Will You Be There (In The Morning)" give me goosebumps every time.

"Black On Black II" is KILLER, and "In Walks The Night" is one of my all-time favorite songs... by anyone.

The only track I find myself skipping, is "Ring Them Bells."

Oh, and how about "Rage"? Wow, Ann tears that one up! :D

I agree with everything you said.

For some reason, though, every time I hear Black on Black II, I'm amazed. There's something about the way she sings it in that high voice with all that power!

I LOVE that movie. It is so glam and then literal all at the same time - like when they have to pump her stomach at what appears to be The Plaza.

I, too, love Heart. I really could love them anymore than I do. I also Love City's Burning:

AHHHHHHHH - Young man is ANGRY, girl is afraid

She want to get high, He want to get paid

Although I LOVE Nancy on it, I always think how beautiful Stevie would have sounded with her early 80's voice doing "These Dreams" SHEEBUS

Isn't anyone a fan of "The Road Home"? With the exception of Little Queen, I've always found the albums to be hit or miss... Heart's a band I've always loved more based on albums rather than songs... but The Road Home is one of my favorite records, ever.

I've always loved The Road Home & Nancy's Live from McCabe's more than the Heart albums... although I do recommend the reissues, they are pretty g-d nice. (and the Stairway to Heaven cover is something to hear!)

FOR REAL?! I'll definitely be picking this one up. Heart's been a favorite of mine since the 70's. Are any of the "original" members on the new cd with Ann and Nancy? Howard Leese stuck with them for a very long time, although he's been missing in action for awhile. "Mistral Wind" is my all-time favorite of theirs, where the dog and butterfly got crossed a little. :)

Hi Joe! :wavey:

It's basically an all-new Heart.
Ann & Nancy are joined by Darian Sahanaja on keyboards, Mike Inez on bass, Ben Smith on drums, and Craig Bartock on various instruments (guitars, organ, etc.).

I believe Howard is currently in Paul Rodgers' (from Bad Company) solo band.

'The Road Home' is absolutely amazing.
I was kind of left cold by the reworkings of "Alone" and "All I Wanna Do Is Make Love To You" though.
I realize they were trying to get away from their '80s sound, but I guess I just missed the bombastic edges of the original versions of those two tracks a little too much, to truly appreciate the acoustic versions.

But everything else is stellar, and it's a must-have CD for any rock fan. :)

I recognize from the backing band for the Wilson sisters is Mike Inez (Former Bassist for Alice In Chains/Ozzy Osbourne).

I also heard the sound clips and I thought they sounded alright for the type of music Heart is known for (I have respect for Heart, But I am not that much of a fan)

Hi Brian!

Thanks for the info. I was wondering what Howard was up to these days. It seemed like he and the girls had a good working relationship for so long and I was surprised to see him not playing in the band any longer. Apparently he's got good taste and makes excellent choices in band mates. Paul Rodgers, YEA BUDDY, he's a rockin' man. I love Bad Company too. Is Rodgers doing the Stevie thing, where he's juggling a solo career with a band one? I thought for sure he rejoined Bad Company not too long ago. Seems like the good rockers just keep on rockin'. :woohoo:

estranged4life 06-24-2004 10:42 PM

Paul Rodgers...

is definitely in Bad Company (I'm guessing he is focusing more on BC than his solo career...But he will be touring solo this summer), Who have a live hits DVD out currently (The only other familiar name in the new version of BC is drummer Simon Kirke, I'm not familiar with the new bassist Jaz Lochrie or guitarist Dave Colwell).

Johnny Stew 06-24-2004 10:48 PM

By the way, the entire 'Jupiter's Darling' album plus a cover of "Good Vibrations" is available to stream on Real Player.... here. :)

tommer 06-25-2004 09:44 AM

i'm listening to it for the 1st time after i downloaded it, yes, it IS surprisingly good, i really hope it'll do well (although i highly doubt it) i guess i'm gonna buy myself a decent copy when i come across one.

Stairway to Heaven, Black Dog, and Rock and Roll all rock BUT.......

Their version of The Battle of Evermore (on the Alive in Seattle live c.d.) is the most AMAZING thing I've ever heard!!! Especially at the end when they yell the successions of "BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IT, BRING IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT!!!!" Goosebumps everytime I hear it.

I agree. Ann needs to drop the bluesy ending and go back to the original arrangement. It was cool that she adopted it on "The Road Home" for a change of pace, (I feel the same way about Stevie switching Rhiannon around for The Dance) but I'm ready to go back to the original.

WelshWitchPMD 06-26-2004 03:25 PM

I just found out that they are coming to Providence. The pit tickets are all sold out however. :( If I knew when a certain band is going to reschedule Camden I would buy a ticket. $60.00 cheap.
They are also doing Foxwoods Casino, Fleet Pavilion Boston and The Big E. All of them in my area or not too far to travel to and on weekends! I really wish that a certain other band would do this. :(

My poor friend called me today from a CD store chain in New England. She was trying to listen to the CD before she bought it but the dummies had no clue and did not have the CD. She did not get there. Time to go to Best Buy.

Yea, I have that. It's an excellent 2cd set. I actually try to get every possible version of this song because I love it so much. I know that "Mistral Wind" is not on The Road Home cd, but I believe there's a good version of the song on the video of one of the concerts the cd was made from. And the one on their greatest hits cd recorded in Phoenix in 1980 is 7:14 minutes of musical bliss.

Seems like there are a lot of Heart fans on the board!

Gypsy3 06-27-2004 06:01 PM

"Jupiter's Darling" is Heart's best in many many years. They released three songs from the album to radio. "Perfect Goodbye" was sent to adult rock stations. "Oldest Story In The World" was sent to rock stations. "Make Me" was sent to classic rock stations. I wasn't really crazy about "Perfect Goodbye". It's even weaker than 80's Heart in my opinion. It's not horrible though.... just not the Heart I love. The latter two though are fantastic. It's so good that Ann and Nancy came back to their roots.

I agree back. :wavey: It fit on The Road Home, but it just gets on my nerves for some reason. Especially since they end with it instead of starting with it. It's so anti-climatic in such a kick ass song. They actually didn't do it last year...they rocked all the way through, but it's back this year.
