Break down of the white album

OK I don't know who started it, but someone on the WTTRS thread started breaking down Tango and we all joined in this little trend. So I figured we should do it for all the albums. Starting with the white album. And I'm sure this will eventually migrate to the solo forums and the pre and post rumours forums. But for now it's the white album. you can make up your own category names but make sure there's a Great, awseome whatever type thing first and at the end there has to be a wretched awful kill yourself type thing. There doesn't need to be nothing there but the category should exist.

AMAZING Out of this world- Rhiannon, Blue Letter, Over My Head, Crystal, SYLM, World Turning, Monday Morning, I'm So Afraid

I don't know where to stick I'm So Afraid in. It's a brilliant song live, but I don't like the album version.

Finally! I was beginning to think nobody else likes (studio) Rhiannon.

- Jake

I love Rhiannon. I do wish she'd kept all of the lyrics in it though.

Yup, and I prefer the lyric "Taken TO the wind" to "Taken BY the wind." More poetic.

- Jake

Thank gawd. I thought I was the ONLY person who liked Sugar Daddy. The lyrics might leave something to be desired, but the whole vibe of the B3 working in tandem with that honky tonk piano, perfectly captures FM of the 70s. Musically, it sounds like it came from Mystery To Me, IMO.

Amazing: Warm Ways, Rhiannon, Crystal, I'm So Afraid
Very Good: Monday Morning, Say You Love Me, Landslide
Good: Over My Head, Sugar Daddy, Blue Letter

The overall feel and harmonies of this album is warm and beautiful.

I came into Fleetwood Mac during Mystery to Me, and was a Bob Welch fan but it wasn't until this album I realized just how quietly talented Christine McVie was. This album showed me she could perform and record with just about anyone. Fortunately for FMac it was SNicks and LBuckingham!

It definitely throws back to some of Chris's earlier work such as Homeward Bound, which I love as well.

- Jake

Great: Monday Morning, Blue Letter, Over My Head, Crystal (though BN is better), Say You Love Me, Landslide

Pretty good: World Turning

Eh: Rhiannon

Boring: Warm Ways

Annoying: Sugar Daddy

How can it be so bad in the studio and so good live: ISA

My 100th Post!

Blessing From God - Rhiannon, Say You Love Me, Blue Letter, Monday Morning
Good - World Turning, Over My Head, Sugar Daddy
Average - Landslide
From The Deviel Himself - Crystal, Warm Ways

O Sh*t!! This is my 100th post! :blob2: :woohoo:    :D  :p Whoooo!

Hard to do since I am PAINFULLY burnt out on this album.

Cream of the Crop: Rhiannon, Blue Letter, Landslide, I'm So Afraid
Floating just under: World Turning, Say You Love Me, Over My Head, Monday Morning
So-so (but by no means "bad"): Warm Ways, Sugar Daddy, Crystal

The only ?? I have is the redundancy of "Crystal", it already was on the Buckingham Nicks album. (since both were STUDIO cuts and there's nothing all that unique a difference between them...it is a little different situation than with "Bleed To Love Her" on SYW, which I have defended its presence; due to the fact that the studio version of BTLH is what intiated The Dance reunion...so it was already destined to be on whatever the next FMac/LBuckingham album would be.)

My White Album breakdown:

"They're So Freakin' Awesome!":
Over My Head, World Turning, Rhiannon, ISA, Blue Letter, Landslide, Sugar Daddy, Say You Love Me

"Ehh, They're Okay":
Warm Ways, Monday Morning, Crystal

"Hit the Search Button Now!!":
None of them! :D

I would say my favorites are Sugar Daddy & Crystal.

The others fly around like a bird in flight!

Awesome!
-Warm Ways...I just think it's really nice and pretty
-Blue Letter...great harmonies
-Crystal...I love Lindsey when he's not so angry and can just sing softly
-Say You Love Me...I don't know what it is about this song, it just really gives me a good feeling. I remember hearing it as a child
-Landslide...This song has made me cry and always seems to apply to my life
-I'm So Afraid...I prefer this version to anything live because you can't duplicate that harmonic guitar thing on stage

Okay
-Rhiannon...I think I'm the only person here that isn't completely nuts for this song. It's better live when she really gets into it. Think Midnight Special!
-Over My Head...kinda boring...nice harmonies
-World Turning...The whole drum solo goes on for waaaaaaaaaay too long

Please Kill Me Now!
-Monday Morning...I used to like it but now I've heard it waaaaaaaaay too much
-Sugar Daddy...after that nice Warm Ways song...it just went to hell

Great: Crystal, Blue Letter, World Turning, I'm So Afraid, Warm Ways, Landslide, Over My Head, Say You Love Me
Okay: Rhiannon, Sugar Daddy, Monday Morning
Don't care for: none
