how come no one likes Welcome TTRS
After reading posts for a year now Ive come to the conclusion that alot of people dont like welcome to the room sara.I have always really liked this song and am curious why the dislike.
|
Not me
I like the song. Sure, it's no Rhiannon, Storms or Landslide, but it's okay. I like singing it. :)
|
The thing that saves it (for me at least) is those incredible vocal games between the three singers. I do listen to it just because of that.
Song of the moment - Get Like You Used To Be |
I love this song! I started a thread last year asking the same question and a bunch of people seemed to like the song. I also asked if anyone liked Paper Doll and a bunch of people said yes even though no one ever talks about that song!
|
I really like this song, and love singing along too. I think the lyrics are great- about Stevie's rehab at Betty Ford. I especially love "This is a dream- right? Deja Vu..." and the lyrics from Blue Lamp. Like wondergirl said, its no Rhiannon, but as far as songs go, I think its great.
:wavey:adam :wavey: |
I'll support the song... I like it. It makes me think of her time in Betty Ford and what that must have been like being famous and in there.
|
I like it a lot, especially the Blue Lamp lyrics thrown in and the way her voice sounds in the Deja-vu and Aw-aw lines.

I don't really love the song because I think the arrangement & instrumentation are essentially hookless & the lead vocal is screechy. I also think a lot of those words are really dumb. |
I don't like it because it's just a jumbled mess and none of it works or stands out. There is no hook whatsoever and the music is quite cheesy and half-baked. If this was written when she was in Betty Ford, you can certainly tell, the lyrics are a mess. Very sloppy and ill-conceived. Play it for a casual fan and you'll get a look of sheer confusion. The cryptic references to her management is what really puts me over the edge of despising this song. And the stolen lyrics from Blue Lamp.

Short answer: THE SONG SUCKS! |
Personally, I like the lyrics to this song. It really tells the story about where she was at that point in her life. I don't like the music and the tempo of the song. The song has this really draggy tempo. I think that just pulls the song down. It is like the lyrics are trying to move forward, but the tempo keeps pulling them back. The music, tempo, and lyrics don't even match up in my opinion. The song would be much better, if it had different music with a different beat/tempo. Of course, to each his own.

Tango in the Night is such a mixed album. I love Big Love. I love Seven Wonders. I love the title song. I love Little Lies. I love Isn't It Midnight . I like You and I Part II ,I even love When I See You Again.
But then I HATE Family Man, I HATE Caroline, I HATE Mystified and I HATE WTTRS. It's like these songs were just thrown together half-assed and put on the album because they had nothing else. I know the whole story and it's no wonder these songs got on but I just never had an album where some songs are my absolute FAV and some I hate the most. Oh well. WTTRS would be better if something was different, like some organization of the music, lyrics and everything else that's going on. It just doesn't sound right at all. It's a mess. I know I forgot Everywhere but I don't have any opinion of that song. |

I think it's funny that Stevie has a hint of a British accent or something during WTTRS...."did I come heah..." LOL |

I think it's funny to hear people who love WTTR...S say Family Man is crap. Quite ironic, actually. |
Lol
Ya'll are making me wanna go listen to Tango!! I adore the album to much. It's tied with Rumours and Tusk as my fave FM album. LOL If I HAD to rank them....Rumours, then Tango, then Tusk. I don't care how d**** it sounds or whatever, I LOVE it!!

To me, Stevie's British accent is most pronounced on Amber: "You've a daughtuh..." :) - Jake |
I love TITN.....McBuck at their finest.
I don't like WTTR...S and WISYA because of Stevie's vocals. I love her, I really do, but during that period her voice was shot. I don't like the lyrics all that much to WTTR...S but a better vocal would have made it more tolerable. I think her vocal on Seven Wonders is atrocious as well, but the song is so damn catchy. I love it, even though I shouldn't. |

Family man, at least musically, is wonderful. |
I think there is more structure in a pile of dog**** than "Welcome To The Room... Sara" IMHO.
Having said that, I think "Family Man" is one of Lindsey's weaker numbers too (athough the guitar and song structure is fine). Tango is essentially, for me, Christine's album although the original "Big Love" is my favorite track. :wavey: |
I do
I do like the song
and I also like Family Man. I like the Tango album a lot!!!! I like WTTRS more than Straight Back |

My opinion couldn't be more opposite! "This is a dream - right?" is just embarrassing. It makes me cringe. |

1. it's not a "jumbled mess", it's just the 'untamed' nicks. unlike silver girl, or say you will, this is one of her more raw stuff. 2. yes, it doesn't have a hook, heck, it doesn't have a chorus even! but actually, it's quite bold if you ask me, and besides, this song connects with Sara, which doesn't have a chorus either despite being 20 minutes long. 3. you sound to me like those old purists who go "oh... those 'modern artists' they can't even sketch properly, that's why they create such abstract paintings", that's funny, ms. nicks is a skillful, professional and award-winning songwriter, it's not like she "forgets" a chorus or a hook, there are times (such as wttr...s) when her writing's SO brilliant, that she doesn't even NEED those. she's in fact singing a poem and not a song, which i think is truly admirable. 4. in fact, i did use this song a coupla times as an example for people who claimed FM or SN's music to be shallow or too commercial, and usually it worked. |

Anyway, of Stevie's three 'Tango' songs, I'd say that "Welcome To The Room... Sara," is my least favorite. Though I certainly don't hate it by any means. Yes, it's unstructured and offbeat... but then, I thought that "different" was supposed to be a good thing? And hey, at least it's not "just another love song" thematically. :) I think it's moving when taken in context, but I can see why it would be off-putting to the casual listener. But when I first heard it (as a very new fan), I was totally intrigued because I had no idea what she was singing about... so that lent a mystery to the song, which had great appeal for me. I actually usually prefer when a song's meaning is rather enigmatic, rather than be hit over the head with it... and that's yet another reason Stevie's songs have always had so much appeal to me. Even the more straight-forward songs have their element of mystery. I think "WTTR...S" is one of those "love it or hate it" kind of songs, and it just all has to do with what appeals to you, or what you look for in a song. :) |

Proving once again that, while I may be a "Stevie Defender," you are the great Lindsey Defender. ;) Seriously though, I find appeal in both songs... "Family Man" is spunky and good plain fun, and "WTTR...S" is funky and striking. :) |

Wttrs
Well I'm one of those who just doesn't care for it, in fact Tango is my LEAST fave of the Rumors line-up, half I like, half I just don't care, and half I really dislike. As for why, WTTRS is just so very depressing, the vocal and music don't really mesh, and she rambles off in the end. I do like some of the lyrics, but overall they are just a bit off, plus I don't care for the use of Tara. But then again I really don't care for much of Stevies work from 87-95 with a few exceptions, overall it just seems like Stevie lost part of what made me love her, she just has very little enthusiasm, or even focus, and seems really depressed, and yes I do know about the klopin stuff...

I like the rhythm, vocals, and lyrics of WTTR...S. I have the Family Man single and I still can't stand it. Obviously some of us have strong opinions on both sides.
