What is your favorite Stevie Nicks era?

Mine would be The Wild Heart era with tBella Donna coming in at a close second because it was when MTV first started off, everyone thought she was a witch, and her style was very new, compared to 80's fashion.

I love so many of them, but especially Mirage, TWH, and RAL. RAL is what came to mind first, though I know it wasn't her healthiest period.

For Looks - Bella Donna

For voice - Hmmmmmm - Street Angel was killer for that, but nothing can compare to the first two tours of FM.

I must say her voice is stellar in those BN demos from Tuscaloosa

darklinensuit 06-01-2004 10:50 PM

I'll add that I love the regality of the usk days & the energy of the BD days.

I did not like her voice for much of the Tusk tour. She was not used to it changing yet. But, she sure looked good

DeadliestPoison 06-02-2004 12:02 AM

Rock A Little! It wasn't the best for her health, but it sure was wild.

Second would probably be OSOTM, because IMO that's when her voice was at it's strongest.

SaraRhiannon 06-02-2004 12:22 AM

Tango Stevie is my favorite.

xdreamsunwindx 06-02-2004 12:31 AM

I loved the look and attitude of RAL. I agree, she wasn't at her healthiest, but man, she rocked in concert. I also loved the huge hair and the glitter. Yay 80's :D. I also loved the Tusk and Rumours/White album eras. Her voice was so beautiful on the White album and Rumours tours.

The Wild Heart era--I thought she looked amazing and sounded even better.

Yup. RAL was all about excess, starting with the voice, booze, and hair.

I love the variety of opinions on this board, so please don't be offended when I say that TOSOTM voice is one of my least favorites. The album is okay, but some of those demos are painful to hear.

I agree, Jake. Not a fan on Timespace era either (as far as the live boots from that era go, her vocals are OK but a bit dull & not emotional at all, IMO)

Street Angel Tour, though, is an entirely different story - WOW!

Rumours & Tusk

During the first mac albums, I find her more prolific about songs, within the band.

From Mirage she had great singles, like Gypsy, but the other songs are not the same level. Sure she saved her best works for her solo albums.

About the voice, I adored her also during Rumours and Tusk. I mean voice at studio sessions. I didn't see any concert, though I have some clips. But can't give an opinion.

About the look, her Tusk and Mirage looks are wonderful!

I'm sorry, the SA days didn't wow me vocally. I know that's not a popular opinion around here.

I think I'm split on the Street Angel year. I like some of the vocals on the album, like Greta & Just Like a Woman, but dislike some of it, like Docklands, where her nasally vocal & bad mix ruin a great song.

I'm split on the tour, too. Some shows I saw, like Sacramento & Mountain View, had fantastic vocals, but others, like Irvine Meadows, weren't so hot, for some weird reason. I don't think she was quite so hot on the Greek Theater video, either. But there are some recordings of shows I didn't see, like Holmdel & Las Vegas, that constitute the best live singing she's done since she hit 40.

All in all, the SA tour vocals wipe the floor with the vocals (& I use the word lightly there) for the 1989, 1990 or 1991 vocals -- & even better than live vocals the past seven or eight years.

I do, too. The '86 solo tour was all about attitude & abandon, & I loved it, but physically she just wasn't able to do the vocal pyrotechnics she did in 1983 on tour.

earthdreamer 06-02-2004 01:57 PM

I've seen pics after like the WH days and you could tell she was sick. So sad. She totally pushed herself way too much. :(

Mmmm, the Stand Back at that show is one of my favorites. Also, even though she had bronchitis, I love the uncut House of Blues radio show. And, last but not least, the first two shows of that tour (Boston and Jones Beach) are among the best she's ever sounded live, IMO. I think that what she lacked in agility and stage prowess, she made up for in her vocals.

Bella Donna Baby!

I really like the Bella Donna/Wild Heart era, THEY ROCK ALL THE WAY!

jwd 06-02-2004 06:04 PM

Any one except for the "Street Angel Era", when she was singing about laundromats and chimpanzees.

goldie 06-02-2004 08:14 PM

My fave is the Rumours era Stevie.... her voice just send chills through me, I love it so much. It's that same voice on Whenever I Call You Friend with Kenny Loggins and also some of Walter Egan's songs.

I have a hard time with her vocals after 1981. But her vocals on the Twister soundtrack are GORGEOUS.

I love all the differnet opinions in this thread!

Jessica 06-02-2004 08:22 PM

In terms of her vocal sound, Rumours was its peak to me. However, I like her voice up through Wild Heart. After that, it's spotty. For her "look" I like the Bella Donna era.

Rock a Little for both voice and looks. Its like right in the middle of her voice evolving from the Buckingham Nicks abulm to Say You Will. Not really scratchy or rough, but like it keeps you waiting for something else to come out of it... thats the impression I get anyway. Oh, and you gotta love that hair. :D

Kelly 06-02-2004 09:53 PM

Rumours..

The Rumours Era is the peak for me as far as voice goes. I also really enjoy her voice on TISL very much as well.
Belladonna/WildHeart/Mirage for looks. I also thought she looked exquisite when she reappeared in 97 for the Dance.

Someone mentioned Twister above. She sounds freaking awesome on that track! I don't know what it was about that particular song but she really sounds incredible. Maybe it was singing with LB again after all those years that made her sound so intensely emotional, whatever it was, it was magical. I love, love, love what Lindsey did with that song. The lyrics just hit me right in the gut
"you know, I know, watching you go was like dying,....like..dying" is my favorite part.

1973-1986. And 1994 (on stage) to now. I'm a fan, remember? ;)

diamondsnake 06-03-2004 11:44 AM

My favorite era is TISL and SYW. Her voice is so incredibly strange and raspy and nasally... I can't get enough of it! The difference between her voice in any of the songs on the Dance and a song like, Illume is huge! Her voice has really gotten more weathered over the last few years and I love it!

Serrart 06-03-2004 07:41 PM

My favorite Stevie eras:

Fleetwood Mac: Tusk and SYW

I really love her voice now, and as a performer she seems to me much more intense and inspired.

I agree. I think it's cool that Stevie has had so many different voices throughout her life.

EveryHour 06-04-2004 01:30 PM

Favorite eras:

Can't decide between Tusk, Bella, RAL, OSOTM, Street Angel, or Enchanted. Other than that, I'm able to narrow it down pretty well.:)

It's interesting how, with Stevie, an "era" can be just a year apart. Do some of you have distinctive segments of her career (by year) you view as "eras" and why?

My Favorite era is OSOTM/Behind the Mask/Timespace-

OSOTM tour has of course "Alice" on it which is my fav stevie song. I also loved her versions of Outside the Rain and Stand Back from this tour. As for the Album I love almost everysong- Rooms on Fire/Long Way to GO/Fire Burning/Ooh My Love/Whole Lotta Trouble/Juliet/Alice

Timespace Tour- I LOVED this tour. I mean there are so many songs i enjoyed from this tour. I Need to Know/Stop Draggin My Heart Around/BEauty and the Beast/IF ANYONE FALLS/Stand Back/Edge of Seventeen. It was nice ot see stevie mix it uup a bit with If anyone falls. Stevie did an awesome version of stand back of this tour. She did twirls, danced with the guitarists, and did the highkick. I also liked landslide from this tour, she had the back up singers sing with her and the song sounded wonderful. Too Bad she didnt do I Can't Wait.

My favorite era of Stevie solo: Rock A Little--- I love to watch her videos from that time. I remember thinking she looked so amazing as I watched those videos on Friday Night Videos and Night Tracks! Her big, 80s hair dancing up and down all those stairs! There were always stairs, WTF?!

My favorite era of Stevie in the Mac: Rumours and Tusk
