Does anybody else love this song? I think it is one of his best, but it seems to be hated or overlooked by others. I love the guitar and the live performance on the Dance. He really rocks it:nod:

Johnny Stew 04-09-2004 01:34 AM

I think it's the bee's knees. :D

Excellent tune.

strandinthewind 04-09-2004 04:55 AM

I like it a lot. I would love to hear the studio version, I bet it is even more gloriously quirkyll!!!!!

The GOS version is the studio version, I think (and there's also a demo of it, as you probably know). No letdowns in there, except it’s in a slower tempo.

I think it was the necessary shocker for the audience during the Dance, and not just the intro. ‘S brilliant in any form.

I love it.

And I love Lindsey Buckingham because he has a yen for novelty compositions that shrug off the standard rock concerns. He has a multiplicity of moods that come through with each song he pens. The lyrics of MY LITTLE DEMON scream anti-commercialism The music? Just ripe for the dance floor! It really, really rocks!.....

As usual, Buckingham’s swaggering guitar solos are the excitement on this track. They always take you on a thrilling musical journey. I like the fast DANCE version of MLD better than the unvarnished, as his axe dexterity is evinced by his time on the stage where he gives a raving, robust performance!

Ultimately, the band locks in with Stevie Nicks’ simultaneous combination of tones & tambourine, John McVie’s perfect pulse and Mick Fleetwood’s supersonic strokes!

MY LITTLE DEMON would make a good penultimate encore!

wondergirl9847 04-09-2004 06:27 PM

It kicks!

He fires that sucker UP on the Dance, dudn't he?! It's very structured, not sing-songy, kind of robotic sounding. Does that make sense? LOL

Bees knees? LMAO!!! I don't think I've heard that expression.

Oh Lord Child - my old age and the effects of being reared and living a significant part of my life in the drink happy but lovely city of New Orleans are showing. I forgot, he says sheepishly, that not only had I heard the GOS version, but I have a copy of it

EveryHour 04-09-2004 10:38 PM

Love this one. I suppose I can possibly see why some people don't like it much, but why so many act like it's utter crap is beyond me. I love the quirky riff in between the verse lines (rocked by LB and Christine) and how awesomely LB and Stevie rocked the chorus!

Hawkeye 04-13-2004 12:38 AM

I love My Little Demon. Lindsey AND Stevie put so much energy into it. And I love that funny intro.

Miranda 04-13-2004 01:42 AM

 Love it! Great contribution from GOS to the Dance gig. I like the Dance version a little better. It really rocks out and has just enough quirkiness to stir things up. My teenagers liked that one a lot and they don't care much for the "oldies".

jadegypsy 04-13-2004 02:33 PM

Love it

This song is actually the reason I now love FM, it was the song that made me laugh (the intro) when listening to The Dance in my dads car and I decided, hey this band is having so much fun, wonder what the rest of the tape sounds like, I was hooked.

chiliD 04-13-2004 03:43 PM

I've got two versions that are supposedly from GOS. And, subsequently heard of a "demo" version.

One of the ones I have sounds vaguely like The Dance version, except with the obvious multi-overdubs...the other actually sounds more "complete" and has a prominent banjo part throughout.

Which is which?

larg 04-15-2004 01:18 PM

The one that sounds almost identical to the Dance version is the demo, and the other is the unfinished, very rough studio take.

I wish I could have seen My Little Demon live; this song seems like it would kick butt at a concert, cause its so fast. That guitar solo at the end is incredible! Reminds me of Jeff Beck-- SCREAMIN'!!

Alas, I will probably never see MLD live... instead, I'll listen to 10 half-ass Stevie songs at the next show I go to that COULD instead be Lindsey tunes that actually sound good live. Oh well.

That is why it is called a Fleetwood Mac concert :cool:AND- I take it you refer to La Nicks' singing as being half assed as opposed to LB's playing on these songs

Well, if her live renditions of "Say You Will" and "Rhiannon" aren't half-assed, I don't know what is. :xoxo: But, "Peacekeeper" is a pretty half-assed song, too. :] As is "Big Love" these days.

How about "The Chain"? I'm starting to hate that song live. The chain is not together and it sounds flat these days.

"Say You Will" doesn't allow for very much (if any) branching out, so that song is somewhat lackluster live (though the tempo and the sing-along chorus help it quite a bit, IMO).

But I have to disagree with you about "Rhiannon"... all of the live versions I've heard from this tour have been rather stirring, and don't sound "half-assed" to me.
Of course, nothing will ever live up to the wild versions from the "early days" (1976-1982), but I think the performances from the current tour are easily topping those from the past three tours.

Would I cry if it were dropped from the setlist though?
Nah... I'm all for injecting some "new classics" into the shows, and giving some of the older songs a rest.

strandinthewind 04-15-2004 04:13 PM

AND - many in the audiences of the several concerts I went to last year were doing the lasso dance with Stevie and really getting into it during Say You Will (OH ALRIGHT!!! I did it too  ). So, people favorably responded to it. My prob. with her on that song is her low vocal - but I still like if not love the song.

I love that Lindsey has just one song to solo on, but pick a new one, Linds. Big Love is old hat, you need new blood. Do a solo acoustic rendition of SYHA, but retire this damn song.

I tend to agree. I am tired of the solo guitar thing, even though it is brilliant and stunning. I wish they would do the album version and just dance around to it

LB and SN grunting at each other on an animalistic level on stage - a shippers' delight

Just speaking for myself, I didn't know any of the other members of Fleetwood Mac were even IN the videos until about 1993... all I ever watched was Stevie. The lady has charisma, what can I say?

Anyway, I just wanted to say that I don't think they should drop "Big Love" from the setlist altogether, but I'd LOVE to see them perform it with the full band. I bet it would rock the house.

Well, I did see LB looking lovingly if not lustfully at La Nicks in the Seven Wonders video. Then again, she was hot, hot, hot in that

I adore Buckingham's acoustic BIG LOVE solo! It's orgasmic! His fab, soulful vocal and love grunts bring out his animalistic attractiveness, and his fingers move so amazingly up and down the fretboard - they spellbind!

But it does seem that when Buckingham was single and didn’t have kids, he sang BIG LOVE more romantically. Now it’s kind of “Wham! Bam! Thank you, Mam!” A tad rough. Gets you wondering what takes less time – Nicks writing a song, or Buckingham having sex. (I'd say Fleetwood Mac's mastermind is definitely not a cuddler. ) It may have something to do with that “circus” atmosphere that Fleetwood was speaking about on Rock Line the other night; of touring with the old lady, kids and pets. Not the most romantic setting.

I'd still like Lindsey solo on his amazing BIG LOVE without "Stevie-twirls." But adding something pseudo-erotic with Lindsey and Jana during TUSK would be totally cool! Bring this knockout lady to the forefront for a song and some salsa swirls --- to spice this baby up even more! :)

Isn't it amazing that Stevie has that much talent that she can write a masterpeice in so litle time. Like she has said, it is often as if a spirit takes her over and is writing through her. I am glad you pointed out that she is such an amazingly talented woman :)

larg 04-16-2004 10:49 AM

I do mean that Stevie does half-ass sing a lot of her songs. I think the newer ones and the slower ones sound better (ie, Say You Will, Beautiful Child, Goodbye Baby) but I don't go to a concert to hear slow songs. I want music that gets my blood pumping. Besides, I've noticed that at most shows, people are leaving for cigarette or drink breaks durring Stevie's songs... they WANT to stay for Lindsey.

Songs they NEED to stop doing, cause they suck this tour:

Silver Springs
Landslide
The Chain (Lindsey's voice sounds so strained)
Big Love

Throw in Everybody Finds Out (if Stevie could do it in the studio, there's no reason why she can't do it live, too!), Monday Morning (not too hard for Lindsey to sing, I don't think), Go Insane (instead of Big Love; this song is more fun to listen to anyway, much more intricate and difficult, and the singing won't strain his voice out for the REST of the show), and maybe even Fall From Grace (even though its not a FM song, Stevie kicked ass singing it during the TISL tour).

If I find out that they HAVE decided to add Sara and Destiny Rules to the setlist this time around, I'll be soooo disappointed. Imagine how borring the Stevie set list will be:

Dreams
Rhiannon
Say You Will
Landslide
Destiny Rules
Sara
Goodbye Baby
Beautiful Child
Gold Dust Woman

BOOORRRRRIIINNNNGGGGG!!!!

:(:(:(:(

My exact statement was "I would love to see that too, because the second she did that all eyes would go to her during LB's solo. Hmmmmmmm - perhaps that is why she respectfully leaves the stage during LB's solos  "

So, think I clearly I was being sarcastic and humorous

My point was and is Stevie does not one up LB and he does not one up her. They have been doing this for a long, long time. She has since I have been seeing them stepped into the background during LB's GYOW ending. I think this shows mutual respect for each other. I mean I think LB knows that if he came to the front of the stage during SN's dancing in SB, that would take away from Stevie's moment. So, he does not do it. Similarly, she leaves the stage for his guitar solo stuff. These are good thing IMO.

This also goes into that whole thing of Stevie is more popular than LB because she has been in the public light far longer considering he solo success, etc. Some refuse to accept that, but it is a fact. If you asked 20 people on the street who Stevie Nicks was, they probably would know even today. I do not think the same can be said for LB. AND - that is a shame because LB is great and has more, by Stevie's own admission, musical talent that Stevie and Stevie is immensely talented. But, Stevie gets the attention - she just has that draw for most people (excluding Lux ;) )

And it's also obvious that most people are interested in Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks only. Who knows if things would be this way if the Dance hadn't happened. But it did happen and SN was the only one who instantly wanted to, and did, benefit from it. Lindsey had his own artistic ego to deal with and Chris had other things going on in her life; they didn't jump on to the bandwagon. So what is said of Lindsey can be said of the other FM members that are not Stevie Nicks too. Of course I'm still hoping for Chris to gather huge attention in June/July but there's still the very likeliness of failure because she hasn't established herself as a solo act. This band is more than the sum of its parts, if Chris was on SYW as a full member the sales would probably have been at least half of The Dance's. As it is, not even Stevie can get to that with her solo releases anymore.

Actually, I don't think anyone refuses to accept this. Do they? Does anyone not realize Stevie is more famous? I think maybe what I was hinting at was there is a difference between recognizing that someone always getting more applause for their performances because they are most popular versus actively enjoying the idea that others ignore and show disrespect (?) to anyone else on stage because Stevie decides to swish her skirt. You seemed to relish the thought, so I was just wondering. Now you've clarified. Thanks. ;)

Bless your heart, I think you think I am attacking LB in some way and simultaneously saying Stevie hung the moon (her sister ya know  ) all by herself. I am not saying this nor am I attacking LB. I am just saying when Stevie does some dramatic move on stage 90% of the crowd goes ballistic. So, she does not do it during LB's shining moments. I do not see why you do not get that is what and all that I am saying  You seem to want to lay this I love Stevie and LB is nothing label on me. I can assure you I do not think that way. I mean I flew from Atlanta, GA to Chicago, Il to see LB's Sounstage thingee and enjoyed every minute of it for like three hours - we never sat once. He was stunningly brilliant and without par. But, anyone there that night can tell you the minute La Nicks walked on that stage, the intensity level went up 100% and even LB's face lit up. She just has that quality more so than LB and, again and so there is no confusion  , LB is brilliant in his own right and without Stevie.

Also, I wish CM would have been on SYW and agree SYW would have been a bigger hit with her involved. But, she chose not to, sadly. I look forward to getting her new release, which I am sure will be brilliant.

Last I checked TISL sold more than SYW. But, they were neck in neck then and SYW may have pulled ahead a little now, esp. considering they have toured for about a year to promote SYW and are going on the road again this Summer. So, Stevie solo sells as much as FM sans CM.

I do wish, however, they both would sell more because I really like seeing FM and hope they continue to record, esp. if CM would come back in.

I always got a kick out of the shot of them on the beach at night in the "Big Love" video. Here's all these relatively tall people and then you see this little 5 foot midget standing with them. And next to Mick, of all people.
