The infamous, legendary "fade-out" lyrics
Okay, we all know one of the BEST things about Stevie's songs are the lyrics she throws in as the song fades out. I know a recent thread about something else (I think on the Rumours board) kind of led to this topic, but I've been wanting to start it for a long time anyway. Crank up those headphones and name your favorites or ones that maybe others have missed.
We all know and love: "...somebody said, 'OUTside the rain" (Outside The Rain). I love the sassy tone in her voice on the word "said". "...that is how songs are written, stories are told, rumours are started" (Rock A Little). One of my all-time fave Stevie lyrics period. I LOVE this one: "Well I think you're uptight lady...uptight lady...oooh, outta sight, outta sight lady" (Love Is Like A River). KILLS me! KILLS! Ya'll take it from here.... :wavey: |
Easily my favourite..
'La la, la-la; la la, la-la; la la, la-la; ohhhh, ohhh, ohhhh..."
(Can anyone guess?) |

My faves... "Oooh well how DARE he take theeeem PRISONER!" in The Nightmare The end of Silver Springs (the original version, as I don't hve the remasters yet) The aforementioned Outside The Rain fade-out ...and I'm sure many others. Yay, fade-outs! Or boo! fade outs. Especially if she's about to go crazy (ie The Nightmate). |
My absolute favorite is from Storms: "Not All the Prayers in the World Could Save Us."
|
I love that "not all the prayers in the world could save us" from "Storms."
I also love the end of Sara because it took me until like 1997 to figure out exactly what she was saying  I also like the "ohh oohhh" at the ond of SOTM. Long Live La Nicks!!!! |

"oooooohhhhhhhhh aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh aaaaahhhhh aaaaahhh aaaaaaahhhhh!!!" |
"In the never forgotten words of another one of your friends baby...when you hang up that phone...well you cease to exist..."
I know she says it earlier in the song but I love the inflection she uses at the end. |
"And not all the prayers in the world could...save us" is my very favorite from "Storms". Quickly followed by...*gasp*..."Sometimes...she's an actress...but you'll never really know..." in "Silver Girl".

Great picks so far.
I'll add Seven Wonders and Nightbird. - Jake |
...welcome to the room EVERYONE. that's her best one in my opinion, it just flip flops half the song's lyrics.
|
I'll throw in If I Were You and I Miss You (oh OH OH oh).
|
There was a big discussion awhile back about exactly what she chants at the end of IIWY.
"If Love is what you feel I Love is what ??????? . . . . . I am locked up inside your eyes forever baby" or something like that  Whatever it is - I love it! |
This is weird because I was I was thinking about Stevie's great fade out lyrics this afternoon while I was listening to One More Big Time Rock & Roll Star in the car, anyway..
A few of my favourites: "What was it they wanted? They say she had I don't wanna know about it! I don't wanna know about it!" (No Spoken Word). The very last part of that really rocks. "Ooh and I paid a price for it, doing the best that I can, I paid..Well I paid!" (Doing the Best I Can) I absolutely love that last "I paid" as the song fades away. "I know...I know..Kind of woman that'll haunt you.." (Kind Of Woman)..I just like this one. "It sounded good..on a delicate white-ribbon caaaard" (OMBTR&RS) I love the way Stevie delivers that final line "Weeell I can see that expression, when the phone rings" (Talk To Me) Not so much the line but the way it's sung. "Ooooooh Well that girl was me! Oh you try hard but you'll never catch me!" (Angel) "He remembers how good it can be...Straight back, straight back.. Straight! Back!" (Straight Back) As well as the previously mentioned Outside The Rain, Sara, Welcome To The Room...Sara and Love is Like A River. Just on a semi-related note, I just got my Re-issues shipped to me this week and the howls at the end of Gold Dust Woman literally sent chills up and down my spine. Especially the first time I listened to it because I wasn't expecting such clarity and ferocity. I swear, that song and those howls make me think of The Exorcist...don't know if that's a good thing or not. Nick |

"If love is what you feel And love is what you want..." :) |
"The Wild Heart". No contest for me.
Here's a woman who knows the meaning of a dramatic fade-out. It's all in her blood. ;) |

and then its "why can't you tell me you feel like I do - and I do" or something like that. |

"And you know that the time I look through your eyes I can't escape- I can't escape 'Cuz the light that burns through your eyes Just burns through Oooh" ;) |

I LOVE IIWY!!!!!
My fave song on RAL!! LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!
I think she's going: "I know just what you feel I know just what you want. Why can't you tell that you're feelin' like I do. And I do, and you know everytime I look into your eyes, I just can't escape, can't escape, 'cuz a light is *something* inside your eyes forever baby." Oh, who the frick knows what she's saying. LOL!! |
If I Were You
i thought it was:
"i know just what you want/i know just what you need/why can't you tell me that you're feeling like i do/ and i do/ and you know everytime i look into your eyes i just can't escape/can't escape/cause a light comes inside your eyes forever baby" |

I'm well and truly convinced that she's singing....
"I know just what you feel, I know just what you want... why can't you tell me that you're feeling like I do... and I do... and you know every time I look into your eyes, I just can't escape... can't escape... 'cuz I'm locked up inside your eyes forever, baby...." |
My favorite is the way she sings "and the guardian of your challenge does not cry" at the end of Blue Lamp.
Also, the last lines of Battle of the Dragon. |
I'm in love with her, "You're very powerful" at the end of Love Is

That's what she sings and I'm sticking to it; she never utters the word "locked" once at the end. |

In IIWY, I've always thought "I just can't escape" part was "It's a careless game ... careless game". But now after reading everyone else's post, I'm not sure what to think.
Also, I love the ending of "Blue Lamp", and I never knew the lyrics until Enchanted came out. I always thought the last line was saying something to the effect of, "Don't deny your child the stars bright..." One other thing: In the long "Castaway" demo (the "Don't rain on our parade, Tom..." one), I've always heard the lyrics to be "talking 'bout your midstream changes ... midstream changes." But, I looked up that song once at the Stevie Nicks Underground, and it's listed as "mystery changes". |

I definitely hear "locked up" in there, and always have. And some of the words that I clearly hear her saying, are missing from your transcription! No wonder we all have such vastly different opinions on Stevie's songs... none of us hear them the same way! |
Well, bless her little heart, she does not have the best diction
