'Meantime' - New Christine Album - June 7th

Thanks to Jannie from The Legacy for posting this exciting, long-awaited news.

Music Week / 03.04.04 / Page 6

One-time Fleetwood Mac songwriter and vocalist Christine McVie’s first solo outing in two decades is to mark the first link-up between Adventure Records and Sanctuary since their chart topping Christmas triumph with Mad World.

Following the UK platinum-selling success of the Michael Andrews featuring Gary Jules single, the two companies are joining forces again for the release on June 7 of McVie’s Meantime.

The title, the first solo album since McVie’s self-titled release, also reunites McVie with Adventure Records co-founder Paul Conroy, who worked with her on Fleetwood Mac releases while he was an executive at Warner Music and landed this new release following an approach by her manager and music publisher Martin Wyatt. “He brought it to me and I just loved it,” says Conroy.

Conroy then decided to speak to Sanctuary about co-handling the album due to its track record of working with mature artists such as Steve Winwood and Todd Rundgren.

Adventure has gone with Sanctuary for the world outside the US and Canada, while teaming up with Koch in North America.

Separately, McVie and Wyatt have overseen the launch of a new publishing operation, which debuts with the new album.

This is awesome news - yet another FM release in the same half of the year as the SYW Concert DVD and the remasters!

PS - I like the (intentionally?) equivocal title. Maybe the early rumour that the new songs were more edgy, more 'angry' (not the actual terms used but the gist) will be true.

Yay!

I was kinda thinking that we'd never see it, but I'm sooo glad to hear this. June 7th isn't such a long time...

markolas 03-29-2004 08:12 AM

Oh, and didn't I hear that they're reissuing her solo album from 1969? If so, that's two Christine events to look forward to this year.

GardenStateGirlie 03-29-2004 08:12 AM

This is AWESOME news. Thanks for posting over here, Joe! You know, I wouldn't mind hearing a bitter and angry Christine (it's a longshot, I know). I have a feeling this will be a really amazing album

Gypsy-Rhiannon 03-29-2004 08:59 AM

:) :D

ShamHy89 03-29-2004 09:11 AM

I'm so excited! Christine is back!

Shamus:)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE CM and am thrilled to see this seeing its fruition. Lord Child - I may be buying a plane ticket to London if she appears live

Way to go CM - again I just love her work and her for that matter

shackin'up 03-29-2004 10:11 AM

This is terrific news!!!

Thanks for posting that!

I hope it's angry and edgy, that'll bring some new life to her impressive body of work. It's a great title- CM-FM 1-0 :D

So there is a Winwood connection huh? Praise him!

Yeah, and Lindsey and Stevie also qualify for social security benefits and senior discounts at IHOP. But I don't see anyone complaining.

I'm sure it will be edgier, Because I very much doubt Sanctuary records will release an album (Either in conjunction with another label or on their own) that would be considered "safe".

macfan 57 03-29-2004 11:46 AM

This is fantastic news!!! I first heard about it on the Legacy board earlier this morning. I can't wait. That's 70 days to go. And, yes her 1969 solo album will also be re-released on CD later this year, although I'm sure she's not too thrilled about that if she knows about it.

And, it's always amusing to hear Buckingham/Nicks fans remark about how old she is. It's not like everyone else in Fleetwood Mac is THAT much younger than Christine.

That certainly used to be the case, but not so much anymore... we'll see how Matthew Knowles' (Beyonce's EVIL daddy) joining the label group is going to effect at least the edginess of their urban roster.

What I'm more interested in is the Carl Stubner angle. Stubner (Mick's agent) is one of the principals of Sanctuary.

The fact that it'll be distributed by Koch in the U.S. isn't great... I'm not a fan. It's unfortunate Sanctuary isn't taking it here.

You may be right...

I'm not a fan of Koch's either. I wonder why they (Sanctuary) won't use BMG Distribution as they have in the past with releases?

(update-The edginess I was referring to is with artists under the Sanctuary label, such as Queensryche, Not the whole Sanctuary Records Group...My bad.)

Les 03-29-2004 12:49 PM

Thanks for the news, Joe (and Jannie)! I wasn't sure I'd ever really see this.

GypsySorcerer 03-29-2004 01:08 PM

:blob1: :blob2: YAYE!!! Go Christine. I am just glad she's making music. June 7 - not TOO far away.

Janet 03-29-2004 01:14 PM

Im so excited, but are we going to get this in the US? I hope I can get my hands on it somehow! I must have this!!!

cliffdweller 03-29-2004 01:38 PM

:blob1: :blob2: Yay!

I'm excited to hear some new C.M. material, but will this mean a tour? Wasn't that that the reason she stayed away from SYW?

tommer 03-29-2004 01:46 PM

do you ever take time to realize just how cool this past year has been? seems like every other month there's another cool mac thing to enjoy (and of course invest some money in  ), you know, i can remember such loooooooooooooooong periods of mac droughts, that lately i just feel like a kid in a candy store

I was thinking about that too. If Chris tours in support of this record, we will know that the "no touring" reason they gave for her leaving is bogus.

HomerMcvie 03-29-2004 01:56 PM

I'll bet that if she does tour, it won't be more than a dozen dates.:(

Johnny Stew 03-29-2004 02:05 PM

I'm really excited that Christine's album finally has a release date, and that it won't just be available as an import. With the reissue of 'Christine Perfect,' we'll be getting two great Christine releases this summer, and I am stoked! :D

Same here, Tommer!
And frankly, they can keep this onslaught of new products coming for the next several years, and I won't be satiated (new albums, more reissues, new & archival material DVDs... I want it all).
I became a fan in the mid-'80s when the Mac's output was slowing considerably, so this is the first time I'm experiencing what it must have been like to have been following the band in the '70s.
In fact, I'd wager that it's the first time that about 85% of us are experiencing this!

chiliD 03-29-2004 02:06 PM

I think "tour" & "Christine McVie" are mutually exclusive.

I doubt that she'll do any live dates further than a day's drive from her abode.

I look for her to only do a small amount of press, and just a handful of live performances not far from her home in England.

And hopefully someone amongst "the powers that be" would have the foresight to have one of those shows filmed.

Johnny Stew 03-29-2004 02:09 PM

We had the same thought, chili.......... get out of my head!!!!

dissention 03-29-2004 02:11 PM

I'd die to see her on Graham Norton. She's got a wicked sense of humor and they'd be perfect together. I can just imagine what he'd ask her.

"'Fess up, did you and Stevie Nicks ever hook up?!"

But touring for herself is different than touring with FM. With, FM it's such a circus event, whereas a solo tour could be a much more scaled down event. Additionally, in a solo tour, Christine does the songs she wants....in FM, she has to participate in everyone else's songs (and her oldies) that she is probably so sick of doing.

She is like the energizer, keeps on going and going and going.............

I'm with whoever said they were buying a plane ticket to England to go see a show of hers lol.

I really doubt she'll even do any tour dates. She might do a TV spot or two but that's probably about it. I would lurrrrve it if she came over to the U.S. to do Leno or Letterman or something but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

Hi Marc... Mike Vernon discussed it on a BBC-2 radio show recently. He didn't give an exact date, but it seems that it will be released in August.

We have a thread going about it on the Pre-Rumours Forum... it's worth checking out. :)

Neil (nodmod) has posted one of the expected bonus tracks from the reissue, on his site... this is also very much worth checking out.

I would die on the spot. I STILL think La Nicks missed out big time by not doing Oh so GN while she was there in Nov. and Dec.
