Reissues of Mirage, Tango?

As I'm sitting here listening to the remastered TUSK thru headphones, and its giving me chills, I'm wondering about Mirage and Tango.

Do you think they will ever re-issue Fleetwood Mac Live, Mirage and Tango in the Night as 2-discers? I know Mirage had quite a bit of extra tracks. Don't know about Tango since Lindsey did most of the work on that one. What do you think?

littlelies7 03-25-2004 11:05 PM

I would think they wouldn't skip them. It would seem inane, don't you think?

MacMan 03-25-2004 11:20 PM

Reissues of Mirage, Tango?

I think for sure Mirage would follow eventually. It's probably a forgotten album by a lot of people, other then us, but I think there is probably enough material floating around that they could come up with a double disc set. And.. I'm sure it was slapped together just the same way Tusk and Rumours were when they first were put out on disc.

Bring it on....

Ali 03-26-2004 12:06 AM

They *have* to do Tango. It's not a question. I cannot say how much that would rock my world. I'm such a bad FM fan, I haven't gotten the current reissues yet. I hate being a poor college student. :(

DownOnRodeo 03-26-2004 12:15 AM

I agree Ali

They have to do TITN eventually. From what I understand it is the second higest grossing studio album apart from Rumours. Although maybe MyLittleDemon is right in suggesting that there's simply little-to-no outtakes, band demos and other rarities because for most of the recording time there wasn't a studio to capture every moment, the demos were probably done individually and away from the band (eg the WTTRS and Everywhere demos) and there was such poor relations within the group that there simply wasn't any jamming/noodling etc. By all accounts it was the least creative studio environment of any of FM's many records. Also, most of the TITN hits have appeared ad nauseum on remastered CDs. Everywhere/Little Lies/Big Love on the Greatest Hits, Family Man on VBOFM, Isn't it Midnight (alt) on The Chain Box Set.

Mirage, even though I prefer TITN, would make a much better deluxe edition in the vein of the current three, I think.

DracoMalfoy 03-26-2004 12:27 AM

I was just about to post a thread regarding this very same topic. :)

I hope they do reissues for all three, Live, Mirage and TITN. (Also, reissues of the pre-Buckingham/Nicks Fleetwood Mac would be awesome. Then there are the early Nicks, McVie and Buckingham solo cds that could be remastered. Not to mention the Buckingham/Nicks record......)

I can just picture a two disc Live album with tons more live tracks. One wonders why there are only 3 songs from Tusk on that cd, even though they were on tour for that album.

Does anyone know why Fireflies, Sorcerer, Smile at You, Nomad, and The Dealer weren't on either reissue of Rumours or Tusk? Or did those songs come later on, in the Mirage era?

I'd really like a studio or demo version of Fireflies. I don't have DSL and it takes forever to d/l songs with dial up.

Ali 03-26-2004 01:07 AM

I think Tango would be possible if they at least put all the various B-sides and alternate mixes on (Ricky, Book of Miracles, You and I Part One).

And I would guess that the Live album would depend on whether or not they got good recordings of the other songs on the setlist.

whitesoxx 03-26-2004 01:35 AM

I am SO hoping they'll do reissues of "Bella Donna" and "The Wild Heart" as well. The cd's that are out now sound crappy and they are such great albums!!!

Rick

macfan 57 03-26-2004 07:31 AM

Supposedly, there will be re-issues for everything on the Warner/Reprise label, from Then Play On up to I assume maybe Behind The Mask. There are lots of demos/outtakes/B sides from Mirage & Tango if they want to use them, by the way.

I think I read earlier that they had used just about everything left in the vault for the Fleetwood Mac, Rumours & Tusk re-issues. Either that isn't true or they had ALOT stolen from them. I have quite a few tracks myself that aren't on the bonus discs.

CarneVaca 03-26-2004 09:05 AM

How many copies did Tango sell? It's probably the band's second biggest seller. Johnny, where are you?

No doubt they'll reissue that one. It it will be a while, though, I'm sure.

That album got a lot of airplay. I remember hearing Big Love, Seven Wonders, Everywhere, Mystified, Family Man and Isn't It Midnight on the radio. Not too bad.

Depends on sales of the current three? Or maybe macfan is right and they'll eventually work through every release.

Plus, they have some early Big Love demos, a couple Joan of Arc demos, What Has Rock 'n Roll..., alternate Seven Wonders, and I'm sure plenty of others. :)

bucklind17 03-26-2004 11:20 AM

I would love to see a reissue of Mirage. I feel like they probably have some good stuff from that period, and maybe they could stick in some live versions from the tour for that album.

I'm not the hugest fan of Tango in the Night, but it still could be interesting what they'd pull out for a reissue of it. I'm sensing demos of stuff like "Caroline" or maybe some toned down (or up!) version of "Tango in the Night". Stuff like that would get me to buy it!

chiliD 03-26-2004 11:28 AM

Jeez, doesn't anyone have PATIENCE!

As macfan 57 posted, it has already been announced (at least a year or so ago) that the ENTIRE FLEETWOOD MAC WB/REPRISE CATALOGUE (from Then Play On forward) is getting the remaster treatment!!!!

Warner Special Products (nee "Rhino") is probably working on them as we speak.

They just weren't going to release them all in one fell swoop, they just did these three albums first, the rest will follow periodically over the next couple of years, I would think.

I don't think it is going to matter how well these three sell whether they keep going with the remaster project...they did the entire Elvis Costello catalogue and I doubt his entire re-issued catalogue sold as much as these three will sell just this week.

The very early WISYA where Stevie sings Whassamaddababay as a soprano.;)

GardenStateGirlie 03-26-2004 12:21 PM

I think you'll see them release them eventually. I have much love for both Mirage and Tango. However, one thing is probably certain...there won't be much from Stevie on Tango

hayley 03-26-2004 12:22 PM

As Chili said, they're already in the process of doing the catalog. Undoubtedly we'll get nice remasters of everything, which something like MIRAGE especially is in DESPERATE need of. That CD transfer is awful.

However, don't get your hopes up that some of the albums like Mirage or TITN might have expanded versions like the new ones do. It's an expense and a lot of work- they might not think the sales are worth the extra work, and I don't disagree, as much as I'd like expanded editions myself.

The thought of any more versions of that song hurts my everything.

...although her singing that at a higher pitch? Yipes. Not so sure about that

I like it too. Though my favorite part of the whole song is that line Lindsey sings toward the end.

DracoMalfoy 03-26-2004 03:09 PM

If they're reissuing the entire Fleetwood Mac catalogue...and this is probably a very stupid question...does that include The Dance and Say You Will?

Johnny Stew 03-26-2004 03:18 PM

I suppose I wouldn't be deeply broken-hearted if they only released 'Mirage' as a 1-disc set, with maybe a few extras (the radio versions of "Love In Store" and "Gypsy," and the non-LP b-side, "Cool Water," for example), like they did with 'Fleetwood Mac.'
Certainly an expanded version would be better, but I'd just be thrilled to FINALLY have a decent-sounding copy... the poor sound-quality on the current CD is a travesty.

But, in saying that, I would be very disappointed if 'Tango' didn't receive the expanded treatment.
The main remixes/extended versions need to be released (we don't really need all of those dub versions though), as do the non-LP b-sides.

I'm not going to hold my breath for "If You Were My Love," "Joan Of Arc," and "What Has Rock And Roll Ever Done For You" though.

'Tango' has sold over 3 million in the states, and the worldwide figure (8 million copies) was correct as of 1997. Might be a little higher by now.

Counting the worldwide figures, it's definitely the band's second biggest selling album. :)

It's definitely the worst. It can't even cut through the white train noise during my commute, for crying out loud.

That distinction belongs to 1989's FM's Greatest Hits, which contained two new songs  It has sold like 8 million in the U.S. alone I think.

hayley 03-26-2004 04:26 PM

I assumed Johnny wasn't counting the Greatest Hits package, I thought he was referring to albums of original material...

I always thought the White album sold more than Tango.

I think Le Stew would correct La Nicks if he met her.

Stevie: "Rhiannon, our only #1 single..."

Le Stew: "Actually, Dreams was your one and only #1 single from the 1977 album Rumours, which went on to sell almost 30 million in the US and around the world. It's certified diamond, by the way. Also, and this is a horse of a different color but a number one all the same, the remix for Planets of the Universe hit #1 on the dance charts. It was a song from your 2001 gold-certified release Toruble In Shangri-La."

 It's all in good fun, Johnny. :)

strandinthewind 03-26-2004 04:41 PM

And then he could add - you know Stevie that's why you said "Dreams" is so special to you

BTW - although Brother Stew is out of the closet ( ) , its still Le Stew, which does have a better ring to it  "Le" is the masculine and "La" is the feminine. Come to think of it, I think I just said Johnny was butch ;) :wavey:

I was wondering about that. The la/le stuff, I mean.

strandinthewind 03-26-2004 04:46 PM

Also, the Dance remix of POTU was a number one single as well, although granted that was quasi solo (FM had worked on it in the past). But, you said "one and only"

Yep, I was referring to studio albums, not "best of" packages.

Hayley's right... of the studio albums that featured Mick, John, Christine, Lindsey & Stevie, 'Fleetwood Mac' is the band's second biggest seller in the US (5 million).
('Tango' comes in third with 3 million, followed by 'Tusk' and 'Mirage,' with 2 million apiece. Of the other releases, 'Greatest Hits' has sold over 8 million, 'The Dance' over 5 million, 'The Very Best of Fleetwood Mac' has sold 1 million+, and 'Fleetwood Mac Live' has sold over 500,000 copies.)

However, if you factor in worldwide sales figures, 'Tango' is the band's second biggest selling studio album (I just checked, and it had sold 8,697,088 copies by 2003), after 'Rumours.'

Yes, I am a nerd.
