Nicks' Song Sung for Shop Owner

by Sydney Confidential's DORA TSAVDARIDIS
March 9, 2004

WHEN singer Stevie Nicks dedicated a song at all three of Fleetwood Mac's Sydney concerts to a new friend – a 74-year-old named Margaret, fans were left wondering just who the woman is.

"You just made my life so much better," Nicks said each show, just before dedicating Beautiful Child to Margaret.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal that woman is doll shop owner Margaret Michael, who met the rock star when she turned up at her city store – Just White – late last week.

As it turns out, Nicks has a real passion for dolls.

"Before I left for Australia I had visited a dear friend of mine, Beverly, who was in hospital with cancer," Nicks told The Daily Telegraph yesterday.

"When we got to Perth [February 27] I found out that she had died. I looked at this doll and her spirit was just there – it was quite incredible. I just felt it so strongly.

"I've had the doll with me since then and I sit her up near me and it has really helped me get through this very difficult period," Nicks said.

Although Nicks wanted to protect her new friend's privacy, Ms Michael was happy to share her special experience so people would know just "how lovely Stevie really is".

"I'm not really into that sort of thing but she was so warm and so
sincere," Ms Michael said.

This is SO sweet. I almost cried. Stevie IS such a sweetie.

Not everyone was wondering who Margaret was.

I sat behind Margaret's daughter at the show and you could tell the reference was closely related to them by the way they acted.

I just had to ask......and they spilled the beans.

I told her daughter that it was a big honour to have a song dedicated to her mum....especially since it was BC.

Cheers
Rochelle

Hey Coldplay: that's great that you told her what an honor that was! Any of us diehards would hate to think that a Stevie dedication went by not fully appreciated!!

Also, have you guys noticed how young Stevie always looks WITHOUT make-up? Isn't it supposed to be the other way around?

Stevie's a sweetie, but is anyone else creeped out by those fugly, fugly dolls? They look like dead babies!

I agree. The dolls just make me cringe. But I've never liked dolls anyway.

I've never been big on dolls either, but cool story. :)

Most dolls ARE creepy as hell. But, hey, a doll is helping her deal with the death of a friend so they can't all be bad. :) That pic is so adorable, despite any creepiness factor. I love that Stevie doesn't care if people see her without makeup. She looks gorgeous. And check out that sleeve...was she shopping in full chiffon garb?:D

Dolls are VERY creepy!! My mom has them all over her house. It's like a twilight zone episode.

I don't think Stevie looks all that great, but at least she has courage!

I think it's cute!

Carrying her dolls around, she looks like a little girl.....who just happens to be draped in flowing chiffon!! LMAO

Perhaps she broke into a stunning rendition of Rhiannon while she was at the cash register making her purchases, and just wanted to be prepard in costume!!!! ;)

LOL!!!

Btw, does anyone know what the lady meant by, "I'm not into that sort of thing?" The very last quote at the end? Does she mean she's not into dolls getting people through hard times or what?

I believe she meant that she's not into rock music, or fawning over rock singers.

Poor woman... she doesn't know what she's missing! ;)

Yeah that's what I thought for a while until I realised she was possibly talking about the whole 'this doll has the spirit of a dead person' vibe. I think that makes more sense. But the quote is totally removed from its original context (as usual) so it's anyone's guess

Not as much as by the assertion that the doll somehow carries her friend's spirit!

Not to harp on a topic in another thread, but I think La Nicks was being poetic ;) :wavey:

However, she is crazy as a loon sometimes on this topic - so . . . .

Beverly?

So, does anyone have a clue who Beverly was? I seem to recall the name being familiar...

The only Beverly I ever knew in connection with Stevie was Beverly Vance, the hairdresser. Stevie set her up with the Wild Heart hair salon in Malibu back in '83 or '84. But this Beverly could be anybody.

And, in fact, Ms. Vance spelled her name "Beverlee," so it's really hard to say if this is the same woman.
