I need EVERYONES help...Stevie almost has a WORLD RECORD!!!
Alright everyone, Guiness Book of World Records (whom I have been in touch with over the past 3 months)is creating a US category for the "Oldest Woman to Ever have a number 1 single"....and Stevie is it! The only problem is that I need to find sales figures and a verified chart posiiton from a place like Billboard......
I NEED EVERYONES HELP IN TRYING TO FIND THIS INFO.....IT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED.... ~Alex |
I don't think Stevie has ever even had a solo #1 single. The closest she came was with SDMHA, which reached number 3. Unless you count Fleetwood Mac songs, in which case Dreams was their only #1 single. But she wasn't very old at the time.
Wouldn't Cher win in this case, or did "Believe" (or whatever it was called?) only reach #1 on the dance charts? Am I misunderstanding your post? |
"Planets of the Universe" hit #1 on the U.S. Dance charts.....Cher would have been the previous holder of the award, but Stevie was older when Planets hit #1...
~Alex |
Oh, ok :). I was thinking only in terms of hot 100 or something. Billboard.com has a research service where they can look it up for you and send a photo copy or a reprint of the chart(s) you're looking for. Guiness has its own people research the details/validity of a record, don't they?
|
They want an actual confirmation before they start research on the topic....That way, they dont bother researching false claims...I am looking into billboard, any help would be appreciated...:)
~Alex |
Well, there are quite a few articles on the NicksFix that mention the chart position of Planets, but I've searched and can't find an actual chart. :(
|
Hey Alex... I have the Billboard issue with the chart that you are looking for in it. It is the August 11, 2001 issue. Planets of the Universe is #1 under the Hot Dance Music Club Play chart. I am sure you can order a copy of this issue somewhere. Hope this info helps!

i think we have already been through this.... someone figured out that Debbie Harry was 4 months older than stevie (when potu was number 1) when Maria hit number 1
|
"Maria" only hit #1 in the U.K.....Debbie Harry currently holds that record, but Stevie would hold the U.S. version, which we are trying to dig up the info for....
~Alex |
This is so cool! I guess Stevie is just so hip, it doesn't matter how old she is!
You don't think Stevie would be offended by this title, do you? I mean it implies that she is... old! When, she is so cool and hip, you know? |
This is cool and all...but how is it a world record, if they are planning on limiting to the US?
|
I thought they only based it on the Billboard Hot 100 chart....guess not

Did you have any luck finding suitable verification, Alex? Maybe the person who said they had a copy would be willing to scan it or photocopy the page and send it to you. |
Well ya better hurry up and get it done before Cher's "Farewell Album Vol 11" comes out..she might just race back to #1...hey I heard Blondie has a new CD coming out too
Chris |
Yeah, Blondie does have a new CD coming out, but she does not sell well AT ALL in the U.S. I still have had no luck, please spread the word around!
~Alex |
Did u try to see if Michelle could scan it for you??
Chris |
Not to burst anyone's bubble, but I have a feeling Guinness won't count Stevie's #1, because it was based on club play and was registered only on Billboard's Club Play chart... whereas Cher's "Believe" hit #1 on the Hot 100 Singles chart, which is based on radio play and sales data, and is therefore more difficult to acheive.
But I could be wrong... and I'll be happy if I am! :D |
I had asked Guiness Records about that, and even though it was #1 on the Dance charts, it was still Stevie and they are proceeding with it....Michelle, is there anyway you could scan it? It would be greatly appreciated!
Please email me a scan if you can.... [email protected] ~Alex |

I had to decorate the library today for our Dr. Seuss Birthday Party tomorrow (it's the Seussentenial!!!), so I double-checked to see if we'd still have the pertinent issue, but unfortunately we only keep the current two years of Billboard, and that issue was discarded recently. Sorry, Alex. :( |

What about "Bootylicious"? Wasn't that #1? Stevie got co-writing credit on that one.
Somehow, I think, that being the oldest woman to have a #1 single wouldn't be a record that Stevie would want recognized over and over. I know I wouldn't if I were if were still a productive singer/songwriter and still selling a substantial amount of albums on my own. LOL |
I don't think Stevie got co-writing credit on Bootilicious did she? She just got credit for the guitar part sample

Speaking of #1's and who was the oldest woman to achieve such a feat, what about who was the oldest woman to have her debut album reach #1? Wouldn't this be Stevie w/ "Bella Donna"? Stevie was 33 when BD came out. This is considered to be her first official solo release. Buckingham/Nicks doesn't count because that was considered a group. I'm trying to think of what female came out with a solo debut that reached #1 and was older than 33 years of age. How old was Sheryl when she released "Tuesday Night Music Club?" I'm not even sure if that went to #1. What about Tina with "Private Dancer"? I know she was something like 44, but was that considered her first solo release? I think Stevie would hold the record for this unless someone else has other info.
