What's your favorite B side?

Mine is Garbo, with the original Silver Springs second (yeah, I know it's not solo).

Battle of the dragon or Mirror Mirror or Garbo

Mirror Mirror is definitely underrated. I don't know why I like it as much as I do. Usually I hate those kinds of keyboard-heavy songs.

iamstevienicks 02-29-2004 08:19 AM

I think i like its melodic cheesiness

tommer 02-29-2004 10:45 AM

A Thousand Days
(should have been an A side.)

Battle Of The Dragon

strandinthewind 02-29-2004 12:45 PM

"I see something - I see a handsome soldier" in that almost urgent, breathless voice just floors me every time as does teh rest fo the song. So, "Battle of the Dragon" most definitely

dissention 02-29-2004 01:14 PM

Battle of the Dragon, most definitely. That song is amazing.

strandinthewind 02-29-2004 01:27 PM

I also think "Battle of the Dragons" is one of her most complex songs. I tried to sing it once for fun. It is VERY hard to sing. i think it is one of those "only Stevie Nicks" and her funny little voice could sing this kind of songs"

It would fit on an album with Whole Lotta Trouble and Listen To The Rain.

Be honest. It's because of all your years in the Marines.

I've never heard Battle of the Dragon... is there a place I can download it? I think my favorite is either Garbo or Silver Springs.

sodascouts 02-29-2004 03:05 PM

Battle of the Dragon. It's stunning, one of my all-time favorite songs of Stevie's. So powerful and moving.

"No one walks away from this battle, not from the power - it's so strong, like a fury. Keep the fury deep inside you - and wish it to end. And when your friends start asking you why, you just pretend - don't say nothing!"

LOVE it.

Siri - it's on the Enchanted Box Set, which you MUST buy. Someone had the B-side version up recently- is it still there?

tommer 02-29-2004 03:13 PM

gimme a break, BOTD is NOT a B side, it's an original movie soundtrack song, if you count it as a b side, you can also choose from the likes of kind of woman, edge of seventeen, wild heart, HAEWAFY, stand back or i can't wait, all of those came to be b sides eventually.

Actually, "Battle of the Dragon" is a b-side. It was a b-side to "Sometimes It's A Bitch" on the single that I have and the single that was released in the UK. ;)

True, it was a b-side... Tommer's just saying that it didn't originate on a b-side (just as "Kind Of Woman," etc., did not).

For those who don't know, it was available on the 'American Anthem' soundtrack for five years before it turned up as a European b-side.

So I'm with Tommer... when I think of "favorite b-sides," I think of the songs that were only available as a b-side... not the ones that were also on a soundtrack or full-length album.

"Garbo," "One More Big Time Rock And Roll Star," "Real Tears," "Mirror Mirror," and "Thousand Days" are the only ones that would count under the above criteria.
"Inspiration" is a bit debatable, since it appeared on the Japanese release of 'Street Angel'... but in my opinion, it still counts as a "b-side only," because that's the only way it was available to fans outside of Japan. :)

Anyway... of the "b-side only" tracks, my vote goes to "Thousand Days."

If we're counting ALL of the songs that have ever been b-sides, then I'll go with "Battle Of The Dragon."

strandinthewind 02-29-2004 05:21 PM

I was just noting it was a rarity like a tue B side is. Even Stevie says if you blink you miss her songs in motion pictures  But, a B side is a B side - thus, "Battle of the Dragons" is beside the point

you forgot God's Garden (that's if you wanna compliment this recording by using the term "a song" to describe it)

Lord child, does any of that really matter? BOTD was a b-side, plain and simple. I was simply correcting a statement that was false. ;) The question was favorite b-side, not favorite "b-side only" or "rare import track" or "was released on an obscure soundtrack that no one bought but was then released as a b-side later". It was favorite b-side.

Good point. OK, then, my favorite is "Real Tears." Most of it is unremarkable, but I just love how she says "Make no MISTAKE about it."

Ah, but although "OMBTRARS", "Garbo", and "Thousand Days" originated as B-sides, they WERE eventually available on a full-length album. Should they be counted? Oh, the agonies of being anal!

They still count because they originated as a "b-side only" release. ;)

Since it was the first 45 I bought of hers with a B-side back in 83~~ I must say GARBO is my favorite!
"I love to waltz with a man in a dark linen suit...." I just love these lyrics and catch myself singing this when I am walking home from work. :)

sorcerer0078 03-01-2004 12:52 AM

I would have to say either Battle of the Dragon, or Mirror Mirror as my fav B-sides.
I dont know why mirror mirror wasnt included on Rock a little!!!!

I used to listen to Battle of the Dragon on the boxed set CD # 3 in my car during the Sunday night 1hr drive back from my ex gf's place 4yrs ago, so *every* time i listen to it now, it really takes me back and puts me in another place and another time!!

I have the cassette somewhere. I think Mitch Gaylord (of the '84 LA Olympics) is on the cover. He starred with Wayne Gretzky's blond wife, though I never saw the film.

I thought it was going to be the title song at first. Maybe she figured it didn't fit with the others?

As a general rule I don't, but, what's that Lindsey quote about "falling under a simple set of labels" or whatever?

Oh yes. I'm actually quite fond of the assless pants.

I will never forget being in middle school when that song "Cream" came out. Me and my friends sang it all the time, not knowing how dirty it really was. Oh and the Prince thing in Thousand Days? I think it's a myth. The beginning verse is about him but the rest of the song is about Lindsey. [she repeats a lot of the same lyrics as in Whole Lotta Trouble] Okay, enough lyrical interpretation! Prince! Woot!

I don't remember it exactly, but I think it was that he felt that he did & more people should. The guy's all about conformity, you know. ;)
