More Cali dates added on Pollstar

http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searcha...&Date_To=02-19

Thu 06/24/04 Fresno, CA Save Mart Center

Sat 06/26/04 Concord, CA Chronicle Pavilion @ Concord

Sun 06/27/04 Marysville, CA Sleep Train Amphitheatre

Does anybody know what major cities these shows are near? I am really going to try and hit one of them.

Les 02-20-2004 11:04 PM

They're all in Central/Northern California.

Marysville is a bit north of Sacramento.

Concord is a bit northeast the Berkeley area.

Fresno is southeast of San Jose, northeast of San Luis Obispo.

diamondsnake 02-20-2004 11:11 PM

Concord is a few miles away from San Francisco, the other two cities are each about an hour and a half from SF, if that gives you an idea of where they are.

WelshWitchPMD 02-20-2004 11:20 PM

Thanks, Les and Diamondsnake. That gives me some kind of clue. Time to look up Southwest.com.

Brian, are there any arenas in OK that they might play? Maybe Tulsa? That would be great for me too because Southwest actually serves that city from Providence.

OKC has the "Cox Business BlahBlahBlah Center" (aka-"The Myriad", and it ALWAYS will be the Myriad in my eyes) right across the street (Quite literally) from the Ford Center. Another venue would be the Lloyd Noble Center in Norman (Which would be hilarious because of the infamous "Lindsey" street highway signs around Norman...Hey Gerald/Shackin'up, Ya remember those big signs right? LOL!!!) but I wouldnt mind seeing the Mac play the Zoo Amphitheatre at the OKC Zoo.

Tulsa has the Maxwell Convention Center but as long as FM doesnt play the Tulsa Fairground Pavilion (I used to see shows there in the 80's-90's and from what I remember it wasnt the greatest arena). I wouldnt mind seeing 'em in my ol' backyard. I doubt they could play at the ORU Mabee Center since "Stevie is a witch" but the "Riverparks Amphitheater" would be cool.

Wow! Great news for us Northern California fans!

Welsh Witch, Concord is a beautiful mid -size amphitheater 40 miles east of San Francisco. It holds 12,500 people. Stevie always plays there on her solo tours. It's a great venue. The Oakland Airport is like 30 miles away, but it is on the Bart Train. Bay Area Rapid Transit.

Marysville is a northern suburb of Sacramento, which is 90 miles east of Sacramento. This is a pretty new venue. All seats are outdoors, there is no pavilion covering the seats. This one is a bit bigger than Concord.

Finally, Save Mart Center is a new 15,000 seat indoor arena on the Fresno State University campus. Fresno is 185 miles southeast of San Francisco, my hometown! I hope to see all three shows!

185 miles??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

You are kidding me! I thought it would be right next to San Francisco. Bummer...

Does anyone familiar with the area know which of these concerts in Cali will have the lowest turnout or i.e. "good seats popping up a few days before the concert" so I can get a good shot at close seats? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I would say either Marysville or Fresno. Concord is in the middle of the Bay Area which is highly populated. Marysville and Fresno are definitely more out in the middle of nowhere.

I am planning to go to all three and I'm excited that the Fresno show is indoors.

jadegypsy 02-21-2004 10:53 PM

CA Arenas

Lowest turnout, probably Fresno or Marysville, although I remember Arco (in Sac) tixs went quick. The Concord one will be packed and expensive (I wanted to see the Eagles there, but at $150 for second level back seats (think second tier in arena I said NO).
Relative distances: Concord, very colse to SF.
Marysville at least 90min from SF, however Sacramento does have an airport that SW flies into and then you are only about 30-45 min away.
Fresno, really really far, think Yosemite, and in the middle of nowhere. Not one where you fly into SFO and then drive.
You can use mapquest.com to get a better idea of where these places are.

Just a note Fresno will be miserable in the summer, about 90+ with lots of humidity. Concord will probably be cool, so bring jackets, and Marysville if like Sacramento will be warm and possibly humid. Sounds fun doesn't it.

SpyNote 02-22-2004 09:17 PM

It's good that they are hitting some other areas. I would not say either of the No. Cal shows are easy to get to from San Francisco...both are long, boring drives. But fortunately, those shows are on the weekend, so traffic will be lighter.

Fresno is half way to Los Angeles, a 3.5 hour drive from San Francisco.

WelshWitchPMD 02-22-2004 10:03 PM

Ok If I do decide to go and if I can go which airport (That Southwest serves) is closest to these citites where the venues are located?
Sacramento, Oakland or San Jose?

Any info would help this New Englander.:)

Concord - Oakland
Marysville - Sacramento (35 miles away).
Fresno - Fresno, but Southwest doesn't fly there.

If you go, consider renting a car as none of the airports are really nearby their respective venues.

golden braid 02-23-2004 12:14 AM

Hey Pattie, I hope you come to California. You always have such great experiences. :)

strandinthewind 02-23-2004 12:53 PM

LOL, to be honest with you I don't really know yet. I really want to go to as many indoor shows that I can. I do not like the sheds that much.
The only shows that I am going to for sure are Madison (on my birthday) and Champaign. I wish that they would announce Las Vegas I want to go back again if I can.

Livia 02-24-2004 10:04 AM

I wish they'd announce ALL the dates soon. I want to go to the last show, wherever that may be. Ledgie gathering, anyone?

:wavey:

I think it's kind of weird how they are doing those 3 shows in Northern California.

SD is a few hours for me, I think I'd have to stay the night if I went to that show. I'm pissed that they are playing Irvine because that's practically halfway from LA to SD.

StormsSF 02-27-2004 11:22 PM

It's not so weird really, they've already done plenty of shows in Los Angeles, 2 in Anaheim, 1 in san Diego, and 1 in Bakersfield.

Fresno is in mid-California, not northern California, and its a pretty big city-450,000.

Sacramento is the state capital, and Concord is in the populated eastern suburbs of the East Bay.

I guess to me Fresno is just No Cal. But I wouldn't consider Bakersfield So Cal either. I thought having a show in Bakersfield came from left-field.
But I'm not saying they should do more LA shows, we DID get them a number of times last year (3 LA, 2 Anaheim...I was at 3 of those shows).

I guess this thread points out how huge of a land mass California is. I don't think I had realized how spread out some of the "No Cal" cities are, just like So Cal... :D
