Changes in faves on SYW?
I was thinking about how my opinions have changed a lil on my faves on SYW.
This is the list I made back on 4-17-2003. 1. RED ROVER 2. Come 3. Peacekeeper 4. Everybody Finds Out 5. Smile at You 6. Murrow 7. Bleed to Love Her 8. Steal Your Heart Away 9. Destiny Rules 10. Illume 11. Thrown Down 12. WTWCT 13. RTTG 14. SYW 15. Miranda 16. Goodbye Baby 17. Say Goodbye 18. Silver Girl Now, it's changed a bit. Here is my new listing. 1. RED ROVER (No surprise here. LOL) 2. Come (Here either) 3. Smile at You 4. Murrow 5. Destiny Rules 6. Everybody Finds Out 7. Say Goodbye (Prefer the GOS version) 8. Steal Your Heart Away 9. Illume 10. Bleed to Love Her 11. Peacekeeper (Prefer the solo version) 12. RTTG 13. Thrown Down 14. Miranda (Prefer the GOS version) 15. WTWCT 16. Goodbye Baby 17. SYW 18. Silver Girl |
Upon first listen, my Top 5 were
1. Thrown Down 2. Peacekeeper 3. Miranda 4. RTTG 5. SYW Now they're 1. Miranda 2. Thrown Down 3. Peacekeeper 4. Everybody Finds Out 5. Smile At You |
I don't have the list I compiled last year, but a few songs have really grown on me since then...
My current rankings: 1. Destiny Rules 2. Running Through The Garden 3. Peackeeper (I still love this song, no matter how bad it translates live) 4. Say Goodbye (Has really grown on me. I used to think it was terribly boring, but after hearing it live...) 5. Miranda 6. Say You Will 7. Come 8. What's The World Coming To 9. Everybody Finds Out (Sorry, it still sounds funky to me. I wont deny that its a good song tho) 10. Thrown Down (Used to be my #1. I must have listened to it too many times :p ) 11. Steal Your Heart Away 12. Murrow 13. Silver Girl 14. Bleed To Love Her 15. Smile At You 16. Goodbye Baby 17. Red Rover 18. Illume (I hate this song) |
I still only like the same three songs that I liked on it when I first heard it.
|
Which ones are those songs, Eric?
Well... I remember that my favorite was "Say Goodbye". It still is, for sure. I think the lyrical/musical complementation is nonparleil. I was quite fond of "Say You Will" but after 1,000 listens it kind of bores you doesn't it. As I recall I wasn't a huge supporter of "Red Rover" at first but now it's one of my favorites; and it happened vice-versa with "Murrow" (yeah, those effects are nice for awhile, but it gets a little bit tiring). I still HATE "Silver Girl" with all my soul and passion; and don't have affection to the studio version of "Come", either. My list now should look something like this: 1. Say Goodbye 2. Red Rover 3. Steal Your Heart Away 4. Thrown Down 5. Running Through The Garden 6. Destiny Rules 7. Say You Will 8. Everybody Finds Out 9. Smile At You (had they released the 'angry' version of this, it would be #1) 10. Goodbye Baby (I remember I liked this one more the first times... I know it's great but...) 11. Peacekeeper 12. Miranda 13. Bleed To Love Her (I love this song... in the Dance version) 14. What's The World Coming To 15. Illume 9-11 16. Murrow Turning Over In His Grave 17. Come 18. Silver Girl Song of the moment - Brown Eyes |

Personally I have fell in Love with Goodbye Baby and Whats the World Coming to. Murrow has also came to my liking.
Come has always bored me, live and on the record. Well live on the guitar solo is different. But alot of the LIndsey stalkers like it because when he points to them and all that crap. But if he never put the killer guitar solo on the end of the song it would suck. I like Murrow because od the chourus. I love that murrow turnin over in his grave part. SYW- still I like it. Songs I skip: Illume Red Rover(hate this--cannot stand it) Peacekeeper Come Destiny Rules Say Goodbye(better live) |
I like the track listing ok, but I would've kept the album shorter.
1) Whats the World Coming To 2) Murrow Turning over in His Grave 3) Thrown Down 4) Say you Will 5) Peacekeeper 6) Come 7) Running Thru the Garden 8) Silver Girl 9) Steal Your Heart Away 10) Bleed 2 Love Her 11) Destiny Rules 12) Say Goodbye BRANDoN |
Can someone please give me a good reason why they don't like illume? It is one of my favorites on the album...

I can't stand this song. Those freaky voices in the middle, for one thing, and for some reason the percussion bugs me. |
My favorites then are still my favorites now: Thrown Down, Say Goodbye, Steal Your Heart Away, Running Through the Garden, and Goodbye Baby.
Peacekeeper and Say you Will are up there too. Murrow, Come, and Red Rover have grown on me quite a bit. I hate Illume. The rest are ok. |
Sorry. lol
Those three I like are Miranda, Peacekeeper, and Say You Will. |
Miranda never did anything for me, GOS or SYW, but now it's slowly but surely climbed into my top 10.
Which I guess would be (in no particular order) Murrow Miranda Illume TD RTTG DR RR Peacekeeper Come (loved it the first time I heard the GOS demos) SG Goodbye Baby - I've been spoilt by the blissful live arrangement I've heard in bootlegs. |

I guess nothing has really changed in my appreciation towards the SYW songs except that:
I've learned to like "Peacekeeper" and ignore the annoying modernistic programmed drum break. I've learned to like "Silver Girl". I've learned to like "Steal Your Heart Away". Note: "SYHA" improved in my mind because of certain substances. ;) |

I used to love Peacekeeper, but now, it isn't even one of my favs.
It's now Murrow, followed by Come. |
My favorites have remained the same ever since the release: "Silver Girl," "Steal Your Heart Away," and "Not Make Believe."
|
My biggest change is a renewed appreciation for Smile At You. I never disliked the song, but I have always loved the Mirage versions and was disappointed with the new one. But something clicked a few months ago and I totally get it now.
1) Destiny Rules (Put it back in the setlist!) 2) Thrown Down (Both versions) 3) Smile At You 4) Steal Your Heart Away 5) Illume ( :p to all the haters!) 6) Not Make Believe 7) Red Rover 8) Come (Love this even more after the live versions.) 9) Running Through The Garden 10) Everybody Finds Out 11) Miranda (Would be awesome live! I'm surprised they didn't try this one out.) 12) What's the World Coming To 13) Murrow 14) Goodbye Baby 15) Say Goodbye 16) Peacekeeper (Sick of this one) 17) Say You Will (Really sick of this one) 18) Silver Girl (I do like the "Sometimes...she was just an actress..." line and how she sings it. But "girly girl?" Did she have to go there? Sigh.) 19) Bleed To Love Her (Umm...why is it here again? I don't enjoy this any more or less than the Dance version...) But this list is constantly changing, as it does with all FM albums for me. Who knows, this time next year, Silver Girl might be #1! Mike |
My top five:
1. Say Goodbye 2. Smile At You 3. Red Rover 4. Goodbye Baby 5. Everybody Finds Out My bottom five: 1. Thrown Down 2. Bleed to Love Her (dear lord, the noodling never stops) 3. Peacekeeper 4. Say You Will 5. Silver Girl |

As far as changes in what I like about SYW are that I really enjoy listening to Thrown Down and Say Goodbye, which never did anything for me before. Also, I have not heard Peackeeper of Come for months because I always skip these songs (but I used to like them). I also find myself loving WTWCT?, which used to be one of my least favorites. Suprisingly, the title song (which is so catchy and simple, you would think I would hate it by now) is still one of my favorites. RTTG was my favorite rocker on the album and still is! And I have always loved Silver Girl, thank you! |
Current Faves Now:
BLEED TO LOVE HER STEAL YOUR HEART AWAY PEACEKEEPER SAY GOODBYE SAY YOU WILL Before: ....Same List...... |
My least favorites were Illume and Silver Girl, and they are still my least favorites. To be fair, I have never actually listened to Illume all the way through!! So I should give it another chance.
The only thing that has really changed for me is that it is almost unbearable for me to listen to Goodbye Baby after reading some of the interpretations of the song. If Stevie is really singing about losing her baby, it is just so heart-wrenching and personal that I can't listen. It's amazing that she can "let the world in" like she does. I guess this is another example of why I shouldn't read interpretations and reviews and probably why Stevie and Lindsey both like for people to find their own meanings in the songs. |
