Lindsey covers album
OK, so everyone is talking about the disappearing act of the Joni Mitchell tribute album, for which Lindsey recorded Big Yellow Taxi. If you heard the clip, you could tell it was a brilliant rendition.
Lindsey has done several covers. So I propose he release an covers album, including some of the ones he's recorded and some that I will suggest. Won't you play along? My suggested covers album: What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding (Nick Lowe) Mr. E's Beautiful Blues (The Eels, with E. dueting) The Singer Not the Song (Rolling Stones) Low (Cracker, with David Lowery dueting) Gotta Get Away (Rolling Stones) Have You Ever Seen the Rain (CCR) Hey Bulldog (The Beatles) Blue Monday (Fats Domino) When the Rainbow Comes (World Party) She Smiled Sweetly (Rolling Stones) Louie Louie (Kingsmen) Big Yellow Taxi (Joni Mitchell) Last Man on the Planet (CarneVaca, with Carne on backing vox) I'll Be Your Baby Tonight (Bob Dylan) |

nice choice, but I'd say: My Descent into Madness (The Eels, with E. dueting) Last Man on the Planet (CarneVaca, with Carne on backing vox) Only backin' vox? Do you not dare to play some guitar? Marliese, Fischer-Z Dollar Bill, Screaming Trees Mockingbird (JT/CS-version with stevie duetting) gerald |

I shudder at the thought of turning Hey Bulldog into a Lindsey-style Travis-picking-on-speed number. Not at all what I had in mind. |
He could keep the riff and make it sound somewhat similar to the live version of "Not That Funny"...that's a possible sound I hear him doing with the song.
|
Does the new live version of Not That Funny incorporate the Travis picking thing?

I'm sorry, but Lindsey's take on Here Comes the Sun was the most intense, dramatic, heartfelt and personal cover I've ever heard - The only problem with it is that he didnt make some of the notes, so its sounds like he's gratuitously wailing, but really those vocals towards the end have an operatic sort of power to them and they blow me away each time.
I love it! A definite inclusion on Carne's covers album list. |

Ashes to Ashes (David Bowie)
No Rain (Blind Melon) Kinder Murder, I Want You... and others by Elvis Costello some of the later songs by Los Lobos or the Latin Playboys (he really should do something with producer Mitchell Froom anyway) ...Skik, Doe Maar ... Twilight Zone (Golden Earring) Dreams (Fleetwood Mac) that's all I can think of uptil now. can I do the soprano backup vocals on Last Man on the Planet ?(even though I don't know the song :D ) |
Thanks for your reply Gerlad - I thought I was just about the only one who appreciated it!

Imagine- John Lennon
With or Without You- U2 Sentimental Lady- Fleetwood Mac (I think he could pull that one off) Paranoid- Black Sabbath. I'm not kidding. |

The finger picking arrangement didn`t bother me though. If he had managed to sing it right I would have been happy with the song. |

Gerald, I like Lindsey's Here Comes the Sun. I was merely suggesting that playing Hey Bulldog the way Lindsey approached Here Comes the Sun might not work. Hey Bulldog is a bad-ass tune because of that mean electric guitar riff. So if Lindsey were to add Travis picking to the number, it would have to be layered under the riff for it to work for me. |

hey bulldog could be working! Maybe even helter skelter for the same reasons... Glad you like HCTS. |

I'm not defending out of fandom. I really loved it immediately. It just hits my soul, whatever your arguments are. Steve Harley (& Cockney Rebel) sang it live in 77. Also out of tune. Great version. It's the opener of his great live-epos Face to face. gerald |
Essence (Lucinda Williams)
Solitary Man (Chirs Isaak; acoustic a la Big Love) Gold (John Stewart) Cactus (David Bowie; could be one of the sexiest songs ever recorded) Humpty Dumpty (Aimee Mann) Rainy Day Women (Bob Dylan; I think it would be totally awesome) Illume (Fleetwood Mac; just out of curiosity!!!) Heart of Gold (Neil Young) Try Some, Buy Some (George Harrison) Roxanne (The Police) She Smiled Sweetly (The Stones) I've Been Waiting For You (Neil Young; bombastic a la Come) |

I'm not. Dissention had posted "Solitary Man (Chris Isaak.."
Just making sure that Neil D is given credit for writing the song. That's all. |
"Solitary Man" is a fantastic song!
And I have to say that, while Lindsey's interpretation of "Here Comes The Sun" was kind of jarring at first, I actually like it considerably. The original can never be improved upon, so why bother doing a paint-by-numbers version that can't help but pale in comparison? Lindsey put a new spin on it that's pure Buckingham. :) |
Here Comes The Sun!
:wavey: Amen to you Johnny Stew!!!
Our feelings...exactly!!! Lindsey was so hurt by Harrisons death he has a tearful little sound in his vocal like he is ready to CRY! His performance gave us shivers! What a Showman!:) Bless Him!Sky ps...He could have played Dylans Love Minus Zero just as well!!!;) |

I wouldn't mind hearing Lindsey's take on She Drives Me Crazy by the Fine Young Cannibals. Now THAT would be interesting live!
