Midnight special version of Rhiannon
 

I just downloaded this from All the Kings Horses website. This was right after the White Album was released in 75, and it is awesome. Stevie kicks butt on it. You can see even then that some of those notes are tough for her, but it sounds awesome. You will notice they sing the chorus without harmony. It's pretty cool to see them and know what was about to happen.

"Why" and "Over My Head" from that show are killer, too. "World Turning" is okay, but too short for TV.

aLSO IT'S FUN TO WATCH IN rHIANNNON WHEN hELEN rEDDY INTRODUCES THEM AND SAYS IT IS THE SONGS DAY-BOOH! (DEBUT).

All these songs are awesome that were preformed on Midnight Special. I only have the four songs listed above.

I have been trying to compress the World Turning video down so that I can post it on my site (its approx. 73 mb!!!), but have been running into problems :( If anyone can suggest a good program to help me with this, I would be appreciative.

I have Why and Over My Head on VHS, but that's it. I would love to get a dvd of these songs so I can post all of them for download!

My copy says it is 11.8 mbs. Hmm....

I remember watching it on TV when it aired for the first time. Actually it was the FIRST TIME I'd ever seen them, outside of pictures. I was pretty impressed and let's just say it added a little gasoline to my already burning fire. Very cool.

I've been searching for Over My Head forever! I got WT, and Rhiannon off of Kazaa. A kind Ledgie sent me Why. Still, no OMH.:(

I have Rhiannon and World Turning on my computer and they are AWESOME! I love Lindsey's smile during Rhiannon. I love Helen Reddy...even though she says Day-Boo. Haha! And the version of World Turning is probably the best that I've heard (I haven't heard them all though).

I'd love to find Why and Over My Head.

I recall seeing FMac on Midnight Special in late 1973...the Mystery To Me lineup. They played "Believe Me" & "Miles Away".

That performance of Rhiannon is incredible! Stevie looks and sounds just gorgeous. If anyone hasn't heard/seen it, go find it somewhere. It's a must have!

I too downloaded World Turning and Rhiannon off of Kazaa, and they're stupendous. I didn't even know they'd performed my other favorite, "Why". Sounds awesome!

The version of Why I have is a Real Player video. It's not NEAR the quality of the Windows Media Player vids of Rhiannon and World Turning. But it sure beats nothing.

Wow , I would have loved it to see those two songs performed live. Do you recall how "miles away" turned out live?

A cool Ledgie sent it to me in parts, which I reassembled. I don't wanna give his name, so he's not inundated with requests(he can speak up if he chooses). How about one of you with the FM sites with downloads send me a PM with an email addy that can hold this file, and I'll send it to you, then everyone can download it.

I just watched it again...how cool is Stevie and FM in this clip..this clip is the PERFECT example of why I became a huge fan in 77.

Does anyone know how well the Fleetwood Mac white album was doing at that point. I know it hit number a while after it was released, (I think at the end of the year 76) I'm just wondering how big they were at this point.

when Vh-1 was featuring some of the Midnight Special episodes several years ago, i happen to catch the very tail end of the 1973 episode. It was the last minute of "Believe Me." I've never seen it since. I managed to tape it though, as short as it was.

I remember something to the effect that the White Album had set a record for the length of time it debuted on the charts to the time it took to get to number 1. I think once "Rhiannon" was released as a single, people started to take more notice of FM and their star began to take an accelerated rise. Just my foggy recollection. Maybe someone else wants to take a stab.

I think their constant touring to support the White Album also helped it reach #1.

Oh yea, completely agree. They were on the road constantly. I remember someone in the band, I think Stevie, saying that they knew they were selling thousands of records after each concert. The vibe was that good. :nod:

I think alot of younger people (ie: teens) who listen to todays music need to watch this performance of Rhiannon, as i don't think there are ANY mainstream bands with female lead singers today, that can belt it out like Stevie Nicks did in this version of Rhiannon.

This is why i think Pink is going to go a long way. She has a distinctive voice and, although i've never heard or seen her live, she can definitely belt it out on record! Her sound really sets her apart from the typical lolly-pop Britney Spears crowd!!

On another note, i think it is unfair that we don't get these sort of clips on the Cable TV music channels we have in Australia!!!!

That's because you don't have it all yet. Your mailbox is full:eek: . Create a new folder on your desktop and save the attachment I sent you to it. Delete them from your emailbox, and I'll send you more. I think I only got 3 of 9 files sent to you, before I got the mailbox full notice. When you finally get them all, there's a "bat" file that you use to put them together.

I forgot that when I download my mail into Outlook, it places a copy on the server that I also need to delete :)

Good point. It's interesting that you say that. Pink's acoustic performance of "Trouble" on the American Music Awards last year was a little bit reminiscent of Stevie for me, in the way Stevie used to belt out Rhiannon in the early days. I'm not a huge Pink fan but that was a good performance and I suspect it might have been extra-appreciated by Stevie fans.

I'm not a Pink fan either, but that performance definitely showed that she's not just another belly button. She's really talented. Performing that song acoustically was the best showcase for her, showing that she wasn't hiding behind a dozen musicians and backup singers.
