Does anybody else really like "Special Kind of Love"?

(The song is very short and apparently an outtake from Tango sessions).

I don't like this song. It's too cheesy.

The cheesiest thing I feel is the chord progression. I can only hope that if they were to develop it into an album song they would've added a lot to it, especially in lyric department! ;) But as it was I guess it was sort of a 'chorus demo', much like Goodbye Angel. :)

Ugh. That is one lame "song", if you can even call it that. There was a reason it was never completed! Very annoying.

So I guess I can't join in the appreciation. :(

But I wanted to show my support for "Goodbye Angel," which I think is a terrific song.
Definitely one of Lindsey's best from that era. :)

Hmm I can't say I ever listen to it, but I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that (considering we were never meant to hear it) it may just have been turned into a half decent song. That said, 'You & I pt II ' makes me retch and its much of a same thing. :p

If for no other reason, "You And I, Part II" is a keeper simply for the line, "Keep your heart open and your eyes shut tight... what will be, will be."

I wouldn't be surprised to see "Special Kind Of Love" on the Rhino remastered Tango In The Night

haha i didn't expect so much distaste for special..., or for you & i part ii. in all honesty, i started a you & i (both parts) appreciation post a few months ago. i don't remember if there was a chorus of praise for the songs or not. i think special... is catchy. if it wasn't so cheesy i would like it less. since its so short, if i'm going to listen to it, i repeat it 3-5 times.

i hope it's on the reissue of tango.

That's one of the reasons I love it,and Johnny Stew's quote of the lyric is another. Not only does this song offer the much needed levity after the "playing-in-the-drama" of "WISYA", it also dirties the gloss of TITN a little. This is the album where they truly started to have that "audiophile approach" after all, so when there's something that sounds a bit "cheap" in there, it balances the situation out somewhat. For me, it is the only link on TITN to the childlike gorgeousness of "I Know I'm Not Wrong". *notices how Downonrodeo and Shackin'up get odd looks on their faces* ;)

And "Special Kind Of Love"? I'd still take this over any Stevie demo that runs 10+ minutes. ;)

I’d much rather have something like that than several songs that take themselves too seriously all the time. *cough* Stevie *cough*.

It sounds a lot cheaper to me than the rest of the album. Ok, not exactly “dirty”. It something they probably tossed out in a few hours after spending several months for the rest of the stuff. But it’s definitely far more childish to me than the remainder of TITN and that’s a big plus for me.

If Lindsey Buckingham, who had just hit his bottom in lyrics with “Family Man”, suddenly writes a great lyric at a time when he wasn’t “supposed to be” writing them, then it matters. :)

And if Stevie really wants to impress me with her way of words, she should write that book of hers. Otherwise, stick to singing girl. ;)
