If You Had The Chance...

SYW is the only tour I've been too (because of my age) and, if you could go to any Mac/Stevie tour, what would they be?
(yes you can say all if you want) But, if you only have a few, list them.. 1 is the best, whatever is last, is STILL wanting to see that tour, but just not as much as the others

Here are mine

STEVIE:
1. (#1 ALL TIME- not just for Stevie tours) RAL- I'm still waiting for time machines to be invented (Maybe in 20/30 years, Red Rocks here I come;) )

2. Wild Heart... Stand Back:cool:

3. Bella Donna - First Tour

4. Enchanted - Great Setlist

5. TISL - Awsome VOice

6. Street Angel -Another awsome voice time

FM
1. Mirage - Great Energy, I love this tour's version of "The Chain"... Love In Store, EOTW, SOTM

2. Tusk- Great Setlist

3. Rumours... Do I need to say anything?

4. Behind The Mask - I really enjoyed Chris's songs, and Love Is Dangerous... Plus Rick is an awsome guitarist

5. The Dance- Awsome Stevie vocals/Lindsey Guitar/Chris Vocals/ John Bass/drums.... It was all awsome

laurie816 12-29-2003 07:41 AM

Well, I've seen most of the post-Tusk tours and the Stevie Solo Tours...so if I had to pick one...I'd probably want to go back in time and see the wonder and the insanity that was the Rumours tour:cool:

macfan 57 12-29-2003 07:58 AM

I've seen all of the Fleetwood Mac tours from Rumours to the Dance, except the Time tour. But, I would have loved to have seen the White Album tour in 1975. They had great set lists on that tour, songs from the Peter Green & Bob Welch years plus songs from the White Album. They were truly Fleetwood Mac shows. I also would have loved to have seen any of the shows from the Bob Welch years, 1971-1974. From what little I've heard from bootlegs, those shows must have been fantastic.

WelshWitchPMD 12-29-2003 08:00 AM

I'd pick the Rumours tour 1977. I kind of just missed the boat on that one :(

Stevie did her first solo mini tour for Bella Donna in 1981 but she only toured the west coast. :( I live in the Northeast but I really wish that I was old enough at that time to go out west and see a show.

GardenStateGirlie 12-29-2003 08:41 AM

Tusk and Mirage FOR SURE. And yes, The Dance. I'm still bitter about that one and my cousin will never hear the end of how he promised to take me for my birthday and never came through...tsk tsk tsk! And I would have LOVED to have seen Wild Heart and RAL.

chiliD 12-29-2003 12:00 PM

I've seen FMac at least twice during every tour from 1974 to 1997 and once during this current SYW tour. So, not too big of a wish list. That said, however, I'd have to say, I would have liked to have seen them at least once every tour prior to that...and especially during the Future Games/Bare Trees incarnation (1971/72).

I would have liked to have seen a show or two of Christine's solo tour in 1984. And, to have seen a show or two of Jeremy Spencer's in 1998 in India. Also, it would've been cool to have been in Ghana in 1981 to see Mick's The Visitor shows.

Beyond that, I've really been blessed with good fortune to have had the opportunity to see Fleetwood Mac either together or separately through the years.

Neal 12-29-2003 12:22 PM

FM:
Already saw The Dance and SYW, so...

1. Tusk

2. Tango In The Night

3. Mirage

4. Behind The Mask

5. Rumours/White album tour

SN:
Saw Street Angel, Enchanted and TISL, so...

1. Rock a Little

2. TOSOTM (She may have been doped up, but I still love this period :) )

3. Wild Heart

4. Timespace/Whole Lotta Trouble

5. Bella Donna

xdreamsunwindx 12-29-2003 12:30 PM

I'd love to have seen the Tusk tour, also, Mirage, The Dance, hell, any of them. As far as solo tours go, OOTC, Chris' solo tour, and The Wild Heart would've been awesome. Alas, they all came waaaay (well... not The Dance and OOTC) before I was even born... so... yeah

darklinensuit 12-29-2003 12:32 PM

Rumours & RAL.

- Jake

HomerMcvie 12-29-2003 02:54 PM

The White Album tour, for sure

DeadliestPoison 12-29-2003 03:01 PM

For Stevie, definately Rock A Little and OSOTM.

For FM, Mirage, Tusk, and The Dance.

diamondsnake 12-29-2003 05:25 PM

Enough is enough! Can someone please explain what is sooooo great about Stevie's Rock a Little tour? I have the red rocks dvd and it is nothing special. In fact, it is a borderline bad video because of all the fake closeups. Anyway, what is the big deal? Do people enjoy seeing Stevie coked out of her brain? I just find it sad.

As far as what tour I would want to see, that would be "The Dance". I have not made up my mind about Stevie's tours though. Prob. TOSOTM.

As fans we all want her healthy, but the greatness of RAL was the sponaneity and wildness of the performances, not to mention a great set list and powerhouse vocals.

Uh...yeah. And, they did at the time, too. Stevie put on her best shows back then, "coked out of her brain" not withstanding. "Coked out" was, for the most part, socially acceptable at the time. There wasn't the "holier than thou" attitude that seems to prevail toward anyone who "self-medicates" these days.

The really sad part was that she was at her peak during a solo tour, not with Fleetwood Mac. It was all downhill after that RAL tour. The Red Rocks video/DVD is a very poor representation of the actual shows of that tour. I saw her in Costa Mesa, California on that tour (Peter Frampton opened the show) and I thought it was one of the best performances I'd ever seen by ANYBODY...at least, until Waddy's overly self-indulgent and way-too-long guitar intro for "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around". The show took a downturn after that.

wondergirl9847 12-29-2003 05:53 PM

Oh man!!

I wish I would have been born earlier and could have become a fan during the early years!! :(

Of course, my first choice in terms of FM members is the OOTC tour!! WHY GOD WHY was I in high school hell instead of at the Caravan of Dreams watching Lindsey on the OOTC tour!!??

I'd love to have seen ALL the tours, but my first choice is Mirage/Tusk...it's tied, as they both KICK in terms of craziness. I'd have loved to have heard LB do ISA during the White Album/Rumours tours, as his voice was REALLY high. Hee!!

Well, all I can say is God works in mysterious ways...because I found Lindsey and FM at a time when I needed them the MOST. :)

well put....and, yeah, the Red Rocks show is way too overproduced to be a representation of the actual concert....

and if you want to get technical about it....she was most likely doing the stuff back in the Rumours days (and maybe before)...so you might as well dismiss all of them from the period of about 75-87 (yet Mick was still partying well into the 90's).

it's all personal opinion though...no, it's not technically a healthy thing to be all messed up like that....but, and i say this again and again, everyone came out ok...so, you can appreciate some of that craziness....i'm sure Stevie laughs about it now despite the serious message she often conveys in interviews...

but as chiliD said, it was socially acceptable back then...i'm 33 now and i do remember the tail end of that period...the socially conscious attitude that is now was pretty much nonexistent back then....drugs were an acceptable part of the rock culture.

The Rock a Little tour was outstanding, her second best ever. The Red Rocks video was a piece of ****. Its production values (I use the word hesitantly) make it completely disposable.

I loved seeing Stevie on cocaine. That was the norm back then: I don't mean that everyone took coke but that the giddy, uninhibited, sexy, frolicsome Stevie was the only Stevie that all of us ever saw, so that became the Stevie norm. That was our entire Stevie impression in the late 1970s & early '80s. If you find such a large portion of her career unpalatable, chalk it up to differing tastes as well as to the fact that her totally different onstage personality since 1987 has been the Stevie norm for you (& thousands of other fans). Personally, I find this entire phase (what I call the "Little Aunt Stevie" phase) dull. It's not rock & roll to me, & it's not scintillating or charismatic. I don't want Stevie Nicks to walk, talk & act like an older sister left to babysit me -- I want her to marshal her forces with a dancer's imperiousness & statuesque control over physical space. Differing tastes, different sets of impressions created by different time frames -- whaddya gonna do? [shrug]

I'd love to have seen shows from the Bob Welch/Christine McVie years, back in the days when Fleetwood Mac was essentially a fairly hip college campus band. Secondly, I'd love to re-see Wild Heart tour shows from October & November. That Forum performance haunts me to this day.

strandinthewind 12-29-2003 08:48 PM

Probably the Rumors tour because they were still playing a killer version of "Why" and Stevie was just on fire (medicated or not  ). I miss her dancing her a$$ off in that time period (1977 - 1985) and that voice is just my favorite ever for her even though I like her voice now.

Also, I just refuse to believe every last bit of that energy came solely from the coke. I think alot of that was her and the coke perhaps enhanced it (assuming she did it at every single concert from 1977 through 1985). So, while I get and for the most part agree with the whole drugs are bad thing and I think she is still great to this day, she was my definition of greatness then. Same for CM and LB.

My $0.02

Also, I would like to have seen Peter Green one time as well.

Finally, the RAL show in Baton Rouge, Louisiana rocked and rolled - no doubt about it

Somajoseph 12-29-2003 09:23 PM

I would have liked to have seen their "Day on The Green" performances at the Oakland Stadium on April 30-May 1st, 1976. This was done after their 90 date White Album tour in the fall of 1975, and while they were in Sausalito beginning to record the Rumours album. I loved the sets they were doing in 75 and 76, and even though that's when it seemed their cocaine use escalated, I think they were high on their success, and playing with a newfound enthusiasm. It was still a pretty new lineup at that point.

Well I guess I prefer the older, laid back Stevie. Or maybe that is just the Stevie that I fell in love with watching "The Dance". So I guess you are right, it is just whatever phase of Stevie you are familiar with.

This is just so weird for me though to think that not that long ago people were doing so many drugs and things were so much crazier. I mean, now, you can't go to school without going to a million drug education classes. Isn't that weird?

Anyway, I didn't mean to start a fire, it is just that the only Rock a Little show I am familiar with is the Red Rocks video which I was not too thrilled with. Not only are the close ups annoying, but her voice seems a bit too... high and annoying. I love her voice better now that it is low and deep and sexy and comforting almost. The vocals on that dvd leave me cold, while the vocals on the dance make me feel warm! Does that make sense?

There are two tours that I would have loved to have witnessed first-hand... the tour they did just as 'Fleetwood Mac' was released, when the band was full of optimism and exuberance; and the 'Wild Heart' tour, with all of Stevie's kinetic energy and playfullness.

"Drug Education Classes" in my day (late 60's/early '70's) were where a bunch of us would get together in the park across the street from my HS and practice rolling joints during lunch break.

I remember the assembly where they showed that farce of an anti-drug film produced by Sonny Bono from about 1967 or 68 (even more unrealistic than "Reefer Madness" & "Cocaine Fiends" of the late '30s)..then the local police drug enforcement unit brought actual samples of the commonly used drugs. They even burnt some marijuana so that people could learn what it smelled like. I thought, "Hmmm, that smells pretty good!".

You'd be bored out of your wits at an OSOTM show. They were so...blah. She didn't spin or do anything, she just stood at the mic and sang...er, talked into the mic. She wasn't very energetic, vocally or physically.

And who else agrees that the version of GDW on that tour was awful?

I would've loved to have seen Tusk, Mirage, Bella Donna, and Rock A Little. Those were awesome tours!!!

Really?! I love GDW from OSOTM! yes, it's very "synth-y", but I think thats what I like about it. Very different from the the standard "cowbell" intro...

fleetfootmike 12-30-2003 01:11 PM

Me? I'd like to see a couple of very early White Album tour dates... preferably the ones at which various songs were performed that haven't been done since ("Rattlesnake Shake" for one, as well as a number of others which David and chiliD can list)...

...and most important of all, I'd want to take a tape recorder :)

jadegypsy 12-30-2003 02:59 PM

tours

I've only seen the SYW soo my wish list:
FM:
Tusk (possibly closing night)
Rumors (when Dreams and GYOW really ment something)
White Album tour (everyone was still happy)
Mirage (to hear gypsy sung when Stevies voice was still really good)

Stevie:
RAL (finally had enough solo songs, also I love the RAL album)
Belladonna (if she played ATGF this might be #1)
WH (I was never that enamored with this album)
TISGL (love the album, but would want to see prior to 9/11)

Janet 12-30-2003 03:05 PM

I fell in love with Stevie after seeing GDW on the Dance. That was MY view of her. I loved the raw energy.

Then someone sent me the Mirage concert. Woah.

I would have given my life to see Stevie in the early-mid 80's. That's when she had more confidence. That's when she knew WHO she was, she loved her music and her sexuality. I want to see THAT Stevie.

Now she's great, but I know I missed a different Stevie altogether.

And who cares she was doing drugs?! I mean it didn't grow inside her and it wasn't this other personality. That was still Stevie up there, just a little, um, high.

I HATE Red Rocks because that's all I'll ever know of that tour and I know it's not real.

After reading everyone's post, I want to see the Red Rocks tour. I just don't want to see her twirl offstage, because honestly that's all that was portrayed to me was her falling off the stage making a spectacle, not this creative sexy woman putting on the show of her life.

As for FM, the tour they did before Rumours was out and they did Silver Springs and that was probably their peak.

littlelies7 12-31-2003 04:22 PM

I would choose:

FM:

The Dance: c'mon, "Temporary One"!

Mirage Tour: probably because EOTW was in the setlist and of course, Lindsey ;)

Stevie:

RAL: I heard that it was pretty good.

Lindsey:

OOTC: I would've loved to have seen that!

Chris:

1984 Tour: I think it would've been really cool.

~~

That's it for now. God bless! :wavey:

golden braid 01-01-2004 12:55 AM

I'm always nostalgic for the old days so I would probably go with the Rumours tour and the Wild Heart tour.

estranged4life 01-01-2004 02:23 AM

Hmmm...

I've only seen FM on the SYW tour & Stevie on the TISL tours...

BUT, Going by the bootlegs I have been adding to my website I would have loved to have seen FM on either the Tusk or Rumours tour & Stevie on the RAL tour...

Drugs are still an acceptable part of rock culture.....it is just done on the sly.....it has to be....to do drugs these days openly would be career suicide......because

The media circus feels it has a right to intrude on every aspect of 'the stars' lives making or breaking them, casting them as social pariahs particularly where drugs are concerned. The media are always in the wings of the show that is the stars lives for some little slip up they are going to make and rarely report anything of value. Surely if an individual wants to travel the route of drug use knowing fully the consequences of their actions what right do we and the media have to judge those individuals?
It seems that we are far too reliant on the media to be our conscience deciding who or what is in or not and what is termed as socially acceptable. One has to question if we can still think for ourselves and have the ability to come to our own conclusions as to what is right and wrong.:wavey:

Lala 01-03-2004 02:24 PM

Mirage would be number one because they would play Gypsy and then all the good stuff that came before it. And Lindsey looks pretty cute in it.

Next would be Tusk and Rumours. Need I explain? That would just be so awesome!

Siri Ruane 01-03-2004 04:07 PM

I would loved to have seen the White album tour, just to see how their music has evolved since then. Aside from that, maybe Rumours, Tusk, Mirage, Behind the Mask, The Dance... :D

Any Stevie concerts would've been cool since I've never been to one. I'm only 14, and have only been to one Mac concert... but I've have been going to (now classic) country concerts since I was 3 months old, so go figure. I'd give anything to have been born 20, 30, or even 15 years earlier. I'm the only hell Momma ever raised... :distress:

cliffdweller 01-03-2004 07:53 PM

Rumours
Tusk
Mirage--- (I would've loved to see that smoking rendition of SOTM)
Wild Heart
Enchanted (booh-hoo, I can't believe I missed this one).

We can judge them as unresponsible.

I don't really understand your post. Who in their right mind thinks of doing drugs (besides for pot, everyone does that, I have no idea why) as something that is acceptable? The media is to blame for drug use being unacceptable? The media doesn't have to portray drug use as being something terrible, anyone with common sense, responsibility, and good regard for their health will know that drug use is a bad thing; the media doesn't ahve to report on it to shape its acceptance.
