Misheard Lyrics
Hi all! We all have to admit that we've done it. We've misheard our favorite band's lyrics, and probably sang them outloud and felt like a complete idiot. Or maybe you heard something that sounded completely weird and looked it up immediately. Anyways...post which lyrics you misheard. This is always funny.
Here's some of mine...I'll post more as I remember them: "Track a ghost through the fog" (Angel) MINE - Traffic goes through the fog "In the stillness of remembering what you had..." (Dreams) MINE - In the stillness of the memory of what you had "I've never ever been a blue calm sea" (Storms) MINE - I've never ever been a blue corn seed Please include FM stuff as well as solo work. I'm sick and looking for a laugh. Thanks |

Hold Me:
"There's No Step To Dance To, So Stick Your Hand Inside My Clothes..." I guess I had a dirty mind:D |
I think the actual lyric to that is raunchier!

SDMHA: Dusthead, Yeah, well, what am I supposed to do?
BTW, there used to be and probably still is a website dedicated specifically to cataloguing these mis-heard lyrics. - Jake |
Everybody Finds Out- "When nobody sees them, at least not together, she rarely goes out"
I heard: "When nobody sees them, at least not together, she will be closed out" Thrown Down: "He fell for her again, she watched it happen" I heard: "He fell for her again, she was still... either rappin' or laughin'..." That's All For Everyone: "Must be just exactly what I need" I heard: "Must be just too sexy for me..." Everywhere: "I'll even shout" I heard: "I'll even shop" Seven Wonders- "All the way back you held out your hand..." I heard: "All the way back you held out your ass..." Don't ask  |
Gypsy: "She was just a wish..."
Before I officially got into the Mac, I thought Stevie sang "She was just a witch..." This, of course, worried me that she had too many "witchy" songs, and that meant that maybe, just maybe she was one.... Then I wised up! |
When Stevie does Dreams live and says "It for you" after the last time she sings "Players only love you when their playing," I thought she was saying "It's all you!" I also thought there was a made up word "compateer" in Gold and Braid, which actually she says "easy come the tears." I have some more, I'm just drawing a blank.

Others I can think of right off the bat: Not That Funny: "I didn't want to be this lame" ISA: "I've had this hole in my heart too long" Nightbird: "In the dark, in the dead of the place" SYLM: "Have pity, baby, just when I thought I'd disowned ya" BTLH: "If this hope is gonna turn out right" There's more, but that's all I can think of off of the top of my head! lol |

This isn't a funny one, but in YMLF, the first line of the chorus swallows many of the lyrics. For the longest time all I made out was "To believe in miracles" instead of "I never did believe in miracles." The Very Best Of version is the clearest one I've heard.

I used to mis-hear a line in No Questions Asked, the one that goes "That's a woman's right, they say." For the life of me I cannot remember what I thought it was, but I remember being very surprised when I finally read the lyrics.

ROF - Long nets of white cloud my memory
Mine - Long nets of wine cloud my memory Debbie |
Misheard Lyrics
Nothing to do with Fleetwood Mac but when Desmond Decker sang My Israelites some people thought he was singing My Ears are alight!
Which is actually a lot better Gail |
In Illume, I always heard "I am a good swimmer" instead of "I am a cliff dweller".
I also heard "She was just a witch!" in Gypsy. And in Temporary One, I have always heard the word "sizzlin'" in the chorus instead of "The sea that divides us is a". "At least give me time to make you mine" in SYW when I heard it in a commercial before it came out on record. |
From Gypsy, "to a room with some lace and paper flowers" I heard: "with sunlight and paper flowers."
And when I first heard Lindsey's songs on Tusk I was like, "WTF is he saying?!?!?!" I had to grab the lyrics and fast. |
One More...
Oh yeah, and in Miranda I always heard, "and the sun goes down in Reno" instead of "on the marina" or whatever it is.

"Go Your Own Way" For a long time, I heard 'You can call it another lonely day' as 'You can call it under, but don't you dare'...
(In my defence, crap cassette player, yer honour). And then there's "Rhiannon", live. Ok... now. Come clean. Who actually managed to figure out what in Heaven's name she was singing in the second chorus without a) comparing several other versions, b) checking online or c) playing it over and over till it clicked? The line in question being, of course, "Once in a million years a lady like her / rises / 'Rhiannon' you cry, but she's gone and your life / knows no answer..." It took me until the Stevie Nicks in Corncert video came out at the beginning of the '80s before that lyric clicked. And if that's easy, how about the screams at the *end* of the version on "Live"? |

*scribble* Oops. |
In Stevie's performances of Sisters of the Moon, most notably the Mirage HBO concert, there is a moment in the song where I hear her growl "ahh ooh ahh arg ah ooh ahoo aarrrr!"
With a more careful listen I now know exactly what she was saying: "ahh ooh ahh arg ah ooh ahoo aarrrr!" |

Gold Dust Woman - "Rulers make bad lovers"
What I heard - "True loves make bad lovers" (That totally defeats the purpose!) Bleed To Love Her - "If this whole thing's gonna turn out right" What I heard - "If this whole wheat's gonna turn out bright" Come - "Lord, it was a little too strange" What I heard - "Whoa, wasn't that what you say" (Others have heard "Lord, it was a little goose train" and "Lord, it was a little goose range".) I'm So Afraid - "So afraid, slip and I fall and I die" What I heard - "So afraid to live and I fall and I die" My Little Demon - "I really don't like it" What I heard - "And me don't like it" Second Hand News - "Someone who's gonna give you a piece of mind" What I heard - "Someone who's gonna give you a kiss goodbye" Goodbye Baby - "Don't forget me" What I heard - "Don't fork at me" Eyes of the World - "Back and forth, lies unfurl" What I heard - (Extremely vulgar, I'm not gonna mention it here for the sake of the viewers.) I also heard "She was just a witch" in Gypsy. |

Say You Love Me:
"I'm beggin' you follow little Cinthy" -This was only one time.... STRANGE.... Come "Lord it was a little two strange" "Lord it was a little two step" Paper Doll "Well I was your paper doll" "I was your faith in God" |
I had a friend who thought that "the final days of Mary Lee Jones" was "the final days of no religion."
Oh, and I thought that line in "Whenever I Call You Friend" was "Sweet love flowin' on a Saturday night." |

Methinks it be "glowing," nyet?

Here's the real deal:
"Sweet love showin' us a heavenly light I've never seen such a beautiful sight Sweet love flowin' on us every night." |
Haha, thanks! The only part of that I had right was the middle line!
