Red Rocks: The Real Video
 

Does anyone think that Stevie has a copy of the real Red Rocks video? I personally think she does, and I think that she should one day release it, knowing that her still devoted fans are DYING to see it. (at least I am) I wonder if Marty directed the Say You Will Boston show....

I'm sure she has a copy of the show. I'm also sure we'll never see it.

I know, this is true, but I, personally, would love to see this. Anyone agree. I know her voice isn't as good as normal, and it might be off, but her energy, and all of that, was great, in the real shots. And she was just cool on that tour IMO. And no offense to the directors, or stylists, but why couldn't they fix her hair to look like the real show??:confused: I mean, if your going to cover something up, at least make her look the same, you know? ;)

I don't know if Red Rocks was originally intended to be straight to video or if it was going to be another HBO special.

Red Rocks was in fact a cable special...it finally saw it debut on Showtime in January 1988...1 and 1/2 yrs after it was originally filmed. and became commercially available on video very soon after that.
I believe it was filmed with the intention of shopping it to cable, but was shelved till Stevie sobered up and decided w/ management if it was even salvagable...which of course they tried w/ those ever so glamourous close-ups...it was finally released I believe also because by early 88' Stevie was riding the crest that was the sucess of the Tango In the Night CD and tour.

anybody have any other info on the infamous Red Rocks cover up?!

You know she has the original. She is the one who wasn't going to release the video after it was recorded because she didn't like they way she looked. Too self conscious with her weight. So made all the dubs in it. Close ups.
Yes would be so nice to see original! I was so dissapointed when it came out with all of those dubs! I was there at Red Rocks Aug 20Th day before my b-day! What a wonderful present that was!!!!!

The whole thing was awesome!!!!!! Yes she was energitic! So beautiful! This was towards the end of the tour! So just went crazy with her singing this night!

I know she didn't look bad! But you know the media was talking about her weight so much! And this is when she said she wouldn't perform anymore looking the way she did. This was a very special night for me also! Being my b-day and seeing her wasn't enough! I am on the video!!!!

I'm gonna go watch it:) Lyp sync or not, it's great and worth it for the tiny real shots.

Actually I take this back. I think it was even more pathetic when they tried to make her look the "same" in the close ups

That is the way she wanted to look. It went through the editing many many times because she wasn't happy with it. It almost didn't get released.

In the 'Timespace' liner notes, she mentioned that Mick stayed after the Red Rocks concert, to keep her company while she filmed the close-ups.

I always figured... based on that comment... that she probably rested for a few hours, then had her hair and makeup re-done, and filmed the close-ups. But who knows!

Didn't she say this after the Street Angle tour? Or did she say it after Red Rocks too?

I thought it was after Street Angel.

She said she would never go onstage at her weight again after the Street Angel tour concluded. She said the Red Rocks video taping was the last time she was all coked up on stage (God love her). The Red Rocks quote I believe was in the ABC Downtown interview filmed in NYC and NY during the TISL tour.

I know there was an intereview on the radio around that time. She stated that she didn't want to release the video cause of the way she looked. I thought was her weight...
Either way I thought she looked great. THer were a few shots in the video that were questionable. But come on this is Stevie! She looks great no matter what! Right?

You know, I just thought of this. For those of you who don't have this, you should get it, it's worth it, for all the little clips of the real thing, and Edge Of Seventeen (I don't think they re did this in a studio, but synthed her voice to be higher in tone, because it sounds alot like the real, uncut version). I think there are more shots of the crowd, the theatre, Sharon, and the back up singers, even the DRUMMER, than there are Stevie.
