If I Were You?
Does anyone know if there was a music video to this song?
Or Some Become Strangers? -I highly doubt this one- |
no....there were no videos to these songs to my knowledge. the only ones to RAL were "Talk to Me" and "I Can't Wait" being that those were the two singles from the album.
|
There was a third single from Rock A Little...Has Anyone Ever Written Anything For You...but there was no official video for it. If I Were You and Some Become Stangers were just album tracks.
Some Become Strangers is one of my favorite Stevie songs that she didn't write herself. I remember being in a record store not long after the Rock A Little album was released, and that song was blasting through the store. Sounded great! Has anyone ever heard the original version -- written and performed by the Williams Brothers? On the album that song appears is also a great angry rocker "You Like Me" written by Stevie! "Don't read your words into my words. Remember the words "Don't do it!" "You're rage I see through...you like me, don't you?" If I Were You is one of my least favorite Stevie songs that she didn't write. Very trite lyrics and too representative of 1980's production, for better or worse. |

And I always thought Imperial Hotel would be a cool video. And The Nightmare could use a video to help normal people make sense of it. Then again, knowing Stevie's love of the opaque, I picture her offering The Nightmare: A Civil War version. - Jake |
I love this song!
If I Were You is my fave song on RAL!! I love the melody!

Having said that, I really like almost all of RAL except The Nightmare and parts of Some Become Strangers. Imperial Hotel is just stunning to me. |
I think Imperial Hotel is a great rocker that stands the test of time. Too bad she never performed it live...it could have been a wailer.
And, yes, I recall Stevie mentioning that the only lyric she wrote for If I Were You was the stanza: "Well I believe that love is a living thing, born into our destinies from a single moment of inspiration. And as it grows it changes our lives forever." |
I agree with If I Were You not having the best lyrics, but the energy in the vocals REALLY makes up for it...when she belts out "IT CHANGES OUR LIVES FOREVER, WEEEEEEEEEELL IF I WERE YOU!" Then I love the end "If love is what you feel, and love is what you want, why can't you tell me that you're feeling like I do, and I do, and you know every time I look in your eyes I just can't escape, can't escape, cause a life-time inside your eyes forever baby..." It's one of, if not my favorite off of RAL too.

I've always thought she sang: "I know just what you feel, I know just what you want... why can't you tell me that you're feeling like I do... and I do... and you know every time I look into your eyes, I just can't escape... can't escape... 'cuz I'm locked up inside your eyes forever, baby...." |
I've always heard:
"I know just what you feel, I know just what you want Why can't you tell me that you're feeling like I do-and I do And you know every time I look into your eyes I just can't escape, Can't escape There's alot there hiding inside your eyes Forever baby..." |

I hear: There's a lifetime to hide inside your eyes forever, baby.
I promise to settle the debate once and for all once she contacts me. Send me a private message, Stephanie Nicks. - Jake |

And don't expect Stevie to confirm the lyrics. I doubt she could remember them herself! lol |
Actually, now I hear: There's a light there inside your eyes forever, baby.

The Nightmare!
How about "The Nightmare"? I love this song!
I was wondering if anyone has the remix? I've been wanting to hear it for a while now. I guess she's does some awesome vocal on the remix? Anyone??? Please??? :( [email protected] Susie |
...and tell me the 'well I believe that love is a living thing' bridge isn't just one of the most CLASSIC 'Rock A Little' moments EVER?
To me, any Stevie song with lots of 'wells' in it counts as a goodie in my book. As a matter of fact, I am preparing a document now which will count the # of 'wells' uttered during Stevie's 1986 Jones Beach Theater appearance for each song, versus the amount uttered in each recorded track on the albums. I think it'll be a gas just to see the variance! For example, I will need a few more listens to make my final estimation...but I believe 'Edge of 17' from Jones Beach featured 26 'wells'! 26!!!!!!! |
Well, yeah, what's the deal with all the "wells"? It's certainly a signiture idiosycrasy. One of many that make up the wonderful wacky world of Stevie.
|
Well....I've never been crazy about "If I Were You"
and well...I've never liked "The Nightmare" either....(count the 'wells' in that song It's just like...well, it's like...recycled Tusk lyrics... Well, everyone has their own opinion... Well...in spite of the fact...Stevie didn't write Some Become Strangers...her vocals on that track...well, they are beautiful. The title track...is one of my favorites...well, i love how 'vunerable her voice sounds'...it's as if she is that little girl...well, singing to her daddy... Don't flame me too much...Well......I'm just kidding with y'all!! :D |
