Lindsey Talks with Charlie Rose, 9/3/03 TONIGHT

Lindsey is scheduled to appear on Wednesday's edition of Charlie Rose, a PBS talk show. The program airs at 11pm. Check local listings before setting VCRs.

this is a huge deal guys! Charlie Rose only interviews exceptionally talented people - from all walks of life. This says a lot about Lindsey and Fleetwood Mac that Charlie was interested. I think the only other "mainstream" rockers he has interviewed are Bruce Springsteen and Tom Petty.

Set your VCR's - Charlie Rose is always an entertaining and captivating interviewer.

i just checked the sched. and it is on tonight - the 3rd, not the 8th.

Damn! I missed it!? AAArrrrgghhh.

By the way, Wednesday, Sept. 8 is next year, and that's only because it's a leap year. Otherwise it would be in 2005!

Never mind. It's today, Wednesday. I'll be watching it. Do you think he'll play a track or two?

Sadly, Charlie Rose does not air on OETA, Oklahoma's PBS network.

In it's place is some crappy British sitcom. Yay.

Make sure you guys go to the pbs website and put in your zipcode and check your stations listings..... it's not playing tonight on one of my pbs stations but it's playing on the other one.

It look like here in Atlanta the show comes on at 12 am, on WPBA (Channel 30), but I don't think they show it on Georgia Public Television, the station that serves the entire state.

I remember the time when Charlie Rose had his late night show on CBS and I think the interview he did with Lindsey in 1984 was great.

Hopefully, the first words out of his mouth won't be "So...Rumours is a great album, huh?" :rolleyes:

Yeah, it'll be thirty minutes! Charlie usually has two guests and spends half an hour on each. And the best part? NO COMMERCIALS! A full thirty minutes of Lindsey! And he usually digs up some *great* video clips, too. I watch him every week and he is a fantastic interviewer! His interview with Jessica Lange back in '97 was one of the best ones he has ever done.

Last time I let myself anticipate a long interview, I ended up seeing 25 minutes of Bryan Adams & 5 minutes of Stevie on MTV's Fanatic.:distress: I'm not letting myself get my hopes too far up, though I know Charlie can give a quality interview.

That was a GREAT interview!! They showed some of the SYW tour, Big Love from the Dance and the PK video!! Nice!! Lindsey was cute and funny. He talked about SYW, Charlie asked if he'd like to do movies...and basically he said nope. LOL (I would LOVE to see him go onstage to get an Oscar for best original song dangit!!) They talked about the inevitable...Rumours and Stevie. :rolleyes: LOL He said this is the best time of his life and being in FM (when bad stuff happened) were the worst times of his life.

So...being in FM was the BEST and WORST time of his life. LMAO!!

Charlie seemed positively giddy to have Lindsey on. I was half expecting him to take a cue from Letterman/Stevie and refer to Lindsey as his ex-husband.
A pretty good interview. It was neat to see how many ways Lindsey could speak of cycles without using the word cycles. (Incarnations, changes, morphing, reinvent, etc.)
Note to Lindsey: Fruit of the Loom better be paying you a LOT of money to be wearing the shirt yet again.

Well, did you think he was going to talk about the invention of Easy Mac and how Wheat Thins should be their own food group? :rolleyes: :D ;)

That's what his next venture should be...being the next LOOM guy. He can be one of the big pieces of fruit dancing on stage... :laugh: If not, he could always do the music to the commericals OR make his own line...lol

I feel like I read every answer he gave somewhere else in recent interviews.

I liked some of the live footage they showed. The song Say You Will sounds much better live.

Charlie Rose missed a great opportunity to talk about the state of the music industry, the current Fleetwood Mac sound and the future of the band and the industry.

Instead, we got more boring crap about Rumours and the relationship.

Except for a thoughtful pause when Charlie asked about the relationship with Stevie, Lindsey just reiterated answers that he's given so many times before. It must be hard to force yourself to actually listen to the questions when you already know what they are going to be. Really, all you have to do is go into your mental repository of canned answers to get through the interview.

A missed opportunity for sure.

YAWN! Boooooring! I was really hoping Charlie would talk to LB about world issues as well.

Okay, I want LB to officially eliminate the following words and phrases from his vocabulary:

Morph
Machine
Package deal
Maneuver

And why did Charlie think that ALL of Stevie's songs on SYW were about 9/11? He probably thinks her "tower" reference in GB is the world trade center.

Sorry folks, but I was very disappointed - and skipped working out this morning cuz I stayed up so late to watch it. Meh.

Livia, it was obvious that Charlie had not listened to the album. If he had, wouldn't he have asked about What's the World Coming To, Murrow and Peacekeeper? Especially Murrow! It truly was a waste.

And I got a very strong sense that Lindsey is sick of talking about the relationship thing and Rumours. He even said that Rumours' popularity owes to the soap opera more than the music itself. No wonder the man has gone so out of his way since to create the anti-Rumours again and again. I really don't get the sense he enjoys the whole voyeuristic aspect of the fascination with the relationship question. If anything, I saw a man who has resigned himself to the fact that it's never going away so he might as well make the best of it while still pushing the boundaries of creativity.

met Lindsey's wife in the anitique store. It was the same old thing. I think Charlie, like a lot of us, has a Stevie fixation. I'm glad to see Mr. Buck supporting public TV, although I'm not surprised.

Also, did he have to mention that FM was playing Biloxi? He could have mentioned MSG but I'm guessing that once again, this date isn't selling so well.

More logically it was mentioned because it is their next tour date.....

Who's to say what is logical? That is your opinion and I respect that. It was just the context in which he said it: Springsteen is playing Shea Stadium, The Stones were going to play China but cancelled due to SARS and you guys are playing Biloxi. To which Lindsey responded "Ha." It wasn't the best segue, IMO.

I agree. As much as I love Charlie Rose and his interview with Lindsey was better than anything we've seen in a long time, he did miss a lot of opportunities.

Charlie has a website with a message board and you can also email your thoughts to them. Maybe if FM gets nominated for a Grammy, he can have Lindsey back and get into some other more interesting subjects. I also felt that Lindsey was being a little too PC when it came to some questions. There were a few where he could have talked more openly about the state of the music business and he chose to go in another direction and take the easy way out. Did anyone else notice that?


I have to admit there was a surreal feeling about seeing Lindsey being interviewed without commercials for so long. I'm so used to those Dateline type interviews where he gets to answer one dumb question and then they splice in overdubbed video about the rehashed history of the band. It was a thrill to see 25 minutes of him. I kept looking at the clock and saying..there's 20 minutes left...there's 10 minutes left.

What happened to that Bravo show with the famous music reporter. He had Sheryl Crow, Randy Newman and some other good guests...is that show still around?

I think the whole gist of that comment was to say that "classic rockers" are still alive and kicking, plain and simple. Not a dig at FM or Biloxi. Lindsey pretty much responded that you don't have to burn out at a relatively young age in rock and roll. It's all about fine-tuning or honing your craft. You get better with practice and experience. And why should they stop because they're in their fifties? Hey and Linds became a daddy when he was in his late forties....he's unstoppable!! :laugh:

The 1984 interview with Charlie Rose is classic.

I remember Lindsey was totally talking about Stevie and just being semi evil about it. Back then he cared much less how he came off.

Now he must be polite etc. His wife must really be tired of hearing about Stevie.

I hope I get to catch this interview someday. It seems I miss everything :(

Lindsey was in that agitated state he was in for all the Go Insane interviews. He was wired and almost twitching, talk about Lindsey at his weirdest. It was a great interview and Charlie was a fan back then too and knew about Lindsey's behind the scene's talents, when no one else seemed to care.

......I was surprised how whiney, swishy, gay-like Buckingham sounded when he was interviewed by Rose. Kinda like a classical musician. Was he like this in '84, too? He looks so macho on stage......

Nicks always sounds so butch in her interviews, quite mannish, actually. But on stage she looks feminine.

What good actors they both are......

Now there's a new take on Lindsey and Stevie,

I've never heard anyone say Lindsey was swishy gay-like and I have to admit I'm rolling about Stevie sounding butch.


Oh, in 84 he was actually quite agitated and twitchy, does that make him butch or gay swishy...not that there's anything wrong with that! LOL

...when Buck prolongs the syllables in his words it sounds effeminate to me.....like "yeah-es....." along with the excessive eye-blinking "packaged deal." He used to wear eye makeup I see, when only "questionable" musicians were wearing it. (Jagger, who slept with Bowie, etc.)

...when Nicks on the radio is sandwiched in between clear-voices of....let's say..Nora Jones and Faith Hill.....she sounds masculine...and ancient! In interviews for SAY YOU WILL she sounds mannish. Not just "alto," but "bass." She has an extremely low voice, rather than just deep and sexy.

I didn't get any of that stuff. I thought Lindsey was more relaxed and happier than he's been in any other tv interview we've seen in a long time but I don't see him being anymore effeminate than he is normally. As for the makeup, I think it was meant as an artistic statement and was part of the entire look he was going for at that time with his clothes and hair. I don't understand, are you trying to say he's sleeping with other men because he was wearing eye makeup? I'm serious, I'm really confused by that analogy. BTW, he wears makeup now for his tv and stage appearances, but it's more subtle and most men in entertainment have to wear it.

As for Stevie, she's always had a deep voice and I only find it funny about refering to her as butch since she's considered and is so feminine and girly, it's hard to think of her as anything else but feminine

I like Stevie's talking voice. It's never bothered me. As for Lindsey, he is disarmingly charming when he speaks. I'm sure he catches a lot of interviewers by surprise the first time. And if he wants to wear mascara again, go for it.
