I love this song and actually think it is one of my favorite Stwvie song. Am I the only one who thinks this? It seems like I have never heard anyone talk highly of this song but it is a favorite of mine.

I've never heard it but I'm gonna download it and see what I think. I'll let you know.

I like the song, espcecially the "in the never forgotten words" lyric and "when you hang up that phone, you cease to exist."

This is one of my favorite Stevie songs too. It seems that people generally beat up on this song and its sister song "When I See You Again." But if you ask me, there are two very awesome Stevie songs. I think WTTRS's highlight is during the beginning where she goes "ooh...missionary." that just sends chills down my spine.... I love it...

I know exactly what you mean. And even though everyone seems to think that Stevie's songs from Tango are really bad, I think they are some of the best of her career. Maybe I just really like 80's music or something. And I will admit they are not as good as some of her earlier work, but for my personal taste they are a great batch of songs!

While it may not be one of her strongest songs musically... it's definitely one of her most revealing and personal. She's talking about being in rehab... and some "missionary" put her there. Makes me wonder who this person was... and if they're still on speaking terms! :eek: Besides Smile At You... this has got to be one of her most blunt angry songs. I guess this song, more than anything, makes me appreciate how she lives her life so openly :) . I can't wait for that autobiography!!! :D

It is my favourite Stevie song, and favourite FM song period! I really LOVE the beginning instrumentation, and I love the additional ad-libbing vox of Lindsey and Christine on the song. I love the bit where Christine pitches in "for Scarlett"... and where Lindsey croons "welcome to the room..." right at the end. One of the few songs on TITN where it's a true group effort (even Mick's drumming is spot-on), and so it's the highlight of the album for me...

I love this song too :D I don't get why most people don't like it...the lyrics are awesome (if you know what she's talking about :D ) and I like the music too. I love the line "this is a dream, right? Deja vu....." And I agree that Stevie' songs on TITN are very good....."and the dream says I want you....and the dream is gone..." Greatness!

I like this song, too, especially the beginning and ending lines. The This is a dream right, deja-vu, and oh-oh are like she's coming out of her funk wondering what the hell's going on, and she doesn't like it.
Have you heard Blue Lamp yet? Some of the lyrics are the same. It's like she was reaching for the comfort of the lamp while she was at BF.

I thought the missionary was the person who started the intervention & told her not to hang up the phone with a drug rehab program.

Sounds to me like she's been put in rehab by this "missionary"... and she's telling him/her that they can tell everyone in the world that they were the one to intervene, and "save" Stevie from her drug addictions. Anyone else sense some bitterness here? ;)

Yeah, that's what I mean.
We know she fired Frontline after they pressured her, but I doubt they're the "friend" to whom the phone lyric refers.

I see that point, but I think Stevie could be hailing her second self here like she does in SOTM. After all her alter ego in SOTM was supposed to be her sister and take care of her because Stevie was not taking very good care of herself. So, I think when she says:

She is really talking to herself via this twin she made up in the 70's. That makes the song far heavier and deeper to me.

I think this is about her wanting the coke and high of the adulation she experienced at a concert while on it. At night and alone in the Betty Ford Center, she was missing that.

I like "Welcome To The Room... Sara" quite well.
Not one of my all time favorites, or anything, but I think it's a pretty impressive song.

You have to give Stevie a lot of credit for writing about her experiences in rehab, which had to be both humiliating and harrowing for her.

A reviewer once compared Stevie's writing style to that of David Crosby's... and in the fact that they both write extremely introspective, "navel-gazing" kinds of songs, that's definitely true.

One of the great things about this track, and so many of Stevie's other songs, is that even though we know what it's about, it's still open-ended enough to allow for our own interpretations.

It takes guts to write that honestly... even if Stevie does put a pretty little bow on it, to help make it more palatable to the masses. :)

I think quite a few people actually enjoy this song... but being that it's so often lambasted, most people are afraid to admit it.

And, of course, now that this thread has been started, let's see how many people jump in to bash it.

Silver Girl - Personally, it's my favorite from SYW.
Red Rover - Just listen to this song while going down a highway in Arizona and tell me you still hate it...just try to not love it.
Save Me A Place - So raw and powerful...a GREAT song!

IMO, these are awesome, yet widely viewed as awful, songs. I guess you could say I'm one of those obsessed fans who loves every song FM puts out. And I also might be one of the few who loves the entire Street Angel album...

I enjoy the song. It's not one of my favorites and the lyrics are mediocre at best, but I do listen to it a lot and sing along with it. One of her better late-eighties FM song from her. :) I do like the fact that she is very blunt in talking about her rehab experience.

i love this song to death, in fact, this particular song was the reason i bought The Wild Heart and came to know the actual greatness of the nicks.
i still have no idea why it is a cause for so much antagonism amog some stevie fans, she was never a perfectionist, she did release some songs, that even WTTR...S's worst critics would have to admit are FAR worse (God's Garden, Unconditional Love anyone?) so i've no clue as to why there's a new WTTR...S bashing thread here every 3 months or so.
this song is no SYW, it's not catchy and doesn't kiss it's listener's ass, i've no doubt in my mind that some of it's haters simply didn't give it enough tries.

the reasonswhy i love this song so badly-

*it's structure is strange and complexed, hence it's lack of a distinctive chorus, a nice move in such a pop oriented album.

*yes, i DO like the way her vocals sounds there. 'nuff said here about the lyrics. it's revealling as hell and therefore very touching.

*the sound production is very innovative. how many songs do you know that sounds (even somewhat) like it? i know none.

most of the times i'd pick TITN outta my CDs cabinet would be to listen to this one song.

I don't think it is her best song,but it's got my name in it so i gotta show it some love :)

I heard Stevie quote in a radio interview that part "When you hang up that phone you cease to exist...." when she had words with Joe Walsh which lead to their break up.

love this song... PARTICULARLY the demo, which nobody seems to have mentioned thus far. the chords are a lot more evident, and the way she sings a lot of the words is different. oooooooo, OOOOH missionary. "so welcome to the room, everyone." Love it.

Yes the demo brings a little something to it. It's a little more serious, IMO than the TITN version.

I like some of the lyrics. The beginning with "it's not Tara, in fact do I know you" lines is a little... weird. Stevie's singing is not the greatest thing either, but what I do love about this song is the fact that we clearly hear the three vocalists making harmonies and singing all over the place. Something that they should have done more often, and that they did when Lindsey was no longer there, in the Behind The Mask album. Other than that, it's not a special favorite of mine.

Yes. I think what she is trying to say is that she is used to the comforts of home and when she went to the Betty Ford Clinic (which is supposedly what the song is about) she didn't have those comforts. Just like Scarlet had to leave her home, which was called Tara, during the war. And the drug addiction was really her war, her battle.

simply stated....

no, i don't like this song....BUT....give me time! i may like it in 10 years....sometimes you find yourself actually liking a song that you hated in the past.

i remember hearing the demo to this song and i like it better than the finished product.
