Rolling Stone's Greatest Guitarists of All Time
......Why isn't Buckingham on here?!
He should be on this list!!! http://www.rollingstone.com/features...n.asp?pid=1917 http://www.rollingstone.com/boards/m...asp?tid=414227 |
I forgot!!
I was gonna post that here and forgot to because the server was down.
Anywho...yeah, WHY is Liddy Buck NOT on this list?!? YAY for Peter Green :D but dangit, Lindsey ALWAYS gets overlooked. I wouldn't use Rolling Stone Magazine even if I was out of toilet paper!! |
....I registered on RS to protest, but something's not working for me.
.....Must be not be able to accept cookies or something....... distress: But my posting works on HERE!? |
O.K. I really love Keith Richards- his freaky voice, the familiar sound of his guitar riffs, the songwriting and just the way he is. I love his solo albums even more than the Stones albums, especially the great "Talk is cheap". But if you can say anything about him- he surely isn't a great guitarist per se. (talking of technical abilities and of his live performances with a lot of "mi****s" and wrong playing) As I said I love him but he's truly not number 10 on a list like this. That's really ridiculous and disqualifies the whole attempt of RS magazine to put this list together. Btw it's ludicrous to publish such a thing in such a detailed way anyway without objective aspects. As if you could evaluate slight differences and as if there were measurable facts! What is the difference between number 17 and number 18? Or number 76 and number 82? Did number 17 win the tiebreak in the 5th set? Or was 76 winner by golden goal or sudden death? Have they made a secret competition? Did they organize some kind of trials? Playoffs with Best of 7? Number xyz holds the fastest time in 2003 and is favourite but number 51 is still the world record holder from 1983 and may successfully get back after practicing hard in the high and thin air of Flagstaff and in Switzerland or Austria... Let's forget about it- it`s not worth it!

Im stunned with the order of some of these musicians on the list... Trey Anastasio is after Joni Mitchell? (dont get me wrong, love both of them)... but we're talking guitar playing, not overall songwriting. Im also stunned LB isnt on the list... IMO he's much better than several named.
|
Bah.
Grr. Hmph. |
Well, being a magazine with no real musicians in the cover most of the times, I wouldn't trust it. That list sucks.
Song of the moment - Hold Me |
Eddie Van Halen #70! wha???? No Elmore James?!?!?!?
Yeah, this list sucks. |
Lindsey is #1!
I know right?? I couldn't believe it when I like got that RollingStone news letter and I saw that my Linds was not on there! I was like freaking out! How could they? How could they leave out the God of guitar????????????!!!!!!! Blah! Blah! Is there even any women on that list? Now that makes me even more angrier! You have to have the Crow on there! Sheryl Crow, you have to give her credit for being in a "man's biz" and playing as well as that sweetie does!! I've grown even more feminist from that list full of men!!!
.:*KIM*:. |
I am offended! Lindsey is definitely one of the greatest, if not the greatest guitarist of all time. I slave at the guitar for hours daily trying to play like he does. I haven't come close.
|
Yeah, well I think Buckingham is THE greatest!
Well, my post (complaint) to Rolling Stone went through. I'm glad someone posted that how can those dudes at Rolling Stones judge the greats, when they probably haven't played a note on an instrument in their life. |
Ike Turner? Joan Jett? Bwaaaaaah! No Bob Dylan or Melissa Etheridge? Those people at Rolling Stone need to put the pipe down.
|

Lindsey is an excellent guitarist....he's in my top five!!!! |
kurt cobain??? a great guitarist? haha
|
Can someone give me a good reason why people don't see Lindsey as one of the greatest guitarists alive today?
I think he is the best dam guitarist alive, and the only person better then him ever is Hendrix. Acoustically, no one can mess with him now. He has his own distinct style. |
Becuase they are stupid?
Quote:
Emotionally....it's all about the way they touch your soul. Technically....it's all about perception IMO. |
I just got my magazine! Im so pissed.
They are saying Joan Jett is a better guitarist then Lindsey? I mean he couldn't get 100? He's that poor?! Peter Green was up there, so its like saying, Peter Green is the FM guitarist and even though Lindsey managed to stay sane and valid, he gets shunned for barely being around when that blues sound was so respected. Its because Lindsey is connected to a certain kind of music he gets shunned. Im just so disappointed! We all need to send mail. |
I know, isn't that sad? I think that this time, RollingStone really made a big boo boo! I bet with the way Lindsey is, he's like pissed off right now and everyone that was near him when he found out that he was not on the list--they all ran away and ran for cover! I can hear Stevie now, "UH-OH! He's gonna blow! Ruuuuun!" LOL! Poor Linds Linds...He knows he's good though, he's admired and he knows that he has talent. God, I love that man! Shhh...Don't tell Stevie or his wife...LOL!

I was gonna do the whole deal about Joan Jett's inclusion, but ya beat me to it, Janet.... JOAN JETT?!?!?!?!? Ye gods!!!! It's so obvious that this list must be a joke.... I agree, they gotta put the pipe down..... |
I really don't have a problem with Joan Jett b/c she's a woman but I do think that Lindsey deserved a spot on there...It was just ludacrous.
.:*KIM*:. |
There's no way Joan Jett is a better guitar player than Melissa Etheridge.:distress:
|
Well I can't really say who is better b/c I have like not heard much of 'Joan Jett' at all but I have heard a lot of 'Melissa Etheridge.' Did I spell Melissa's name right?
.:*KIM*:. |
Yes that's right. She also studied at the Berklee College of Music. I guess she didn't fit Rolling Stone's demographic for this issue.
|
Meh
Ahhh...People that work in this music biz don't know much of anything anymore. I mean, look at the people that they give record deals to, Britney, Justin, Jho, and all these other rappers! What is the world coming to? It's just like what Lindsey said! LOL! He's so true on that! But really, where's the new talent? I'm right here and they chose to look passed me at the American Idol auditions...I was told that this year the show is allll about bubblegum pop...Now how long is that Idol that is picked this year gonna last with that crappy style in music? Ugh!
.:*KIM*:. |
They don't care as long as they make a big pile of cash-NOW. They aren't interested in developing talent and building catalogs-part of the reason their sales are so crappy. Brittany Spears is worth an estimated $46 million dolllars. But by the time she's 30-well let's just say I hope she invests wisely.:)
|
Yeah, that Britney sure is worth a lot of money and she does not deserve all that money...She has like 0 talent and a lot of people that I know think that she will end up being in pornos b/c she is just so sucky at everything and she just sells 'sex.' I mean, u should have seen the auditions that I went to...I mean, there were a lot of talented people there that were turned away. My friends that I met there were turned down and u would not believe how much talent they both had! Me2! I like was told that I had a beautiful voice and I know that I do--the judge that I sung for was just an a$$ and he did not care what u sounded like. It was just a big mess and I don't think I could go through telling the whole story again...:distress:
.:*KIM*:. |
Melissa Etheridge and Joan Jett (who by the way are BOTH rhythym guitar players) SUCK THE BIG ONE in comparison to Lindsey.
I was soooo pissed that they put Joni Mitchell waaaayy down there. She, Bonnie Raitt, and Emily Saliers (where the hell were they) are truly the great guitarists of this previous age..... |
Yeah.
Let's make certain we all show our support for Buckingham right here: http://www.rollingstone.com/boards/m...asp?tid=414227 |
This cracked me up!!!
"I made a list of the 1000 magazines I'd subscibe to, Rolling Stone didn't make the list"
LMAO!!!!!! |

Whatever RS is smoking isnt what Im smoking or what Jerry smoked.  |
That's right it's crack. Oh, Whitney!

Rolling Stone is Stoned!!! hahaha!
:wavey: Rolling Stone made the old timey Mac fanatics
happy...meaning ChiliD...so we do tip the hat to the original guitarist Peter Greenbaum..he was great!!! BBBUUUTTTTTT...They could have included Lindsey Buckingham who also says he admires Peter Green! They could have given this Brilliant Guitarist His place!!! What do RS want...get FM to set fireworks off on stage? |
I should boycott Rolling Stone, but I can't, because I am addicted to it, even its ludicracy.
But after reading that awful list...Pete Townsend at 50? WTH! No Ted Nugent either, someone mentioned that. He even deserved it more than half the people on that list. Melissa Etheridge should be on there, really, because she really is a rock chick. But its the same with the Women in Rock and putting Britney and Mary J Blige who wouldn't know rock if it hit them on the face. I listened to Stephanie today, that alone should have made him in the top 40. RS is wacked, Im sorry. |
LOL! You just totally hit the nail on the head there...LOL! I know, putting Brit Spears on a list of Icons is just BS! I mean, it's just so messed up...LOL! I haven't looked in to RS in awhile, only if there is something interesting on the cover...I could care less about who is doing who in the rap biz.
