Mick Fleetwood--Piece of junk human?
I was just wondering, because rarely if ever do I read nice things about him here.
There's all kinds of nice talk about Stevie, Lindsey and Chris, and people usually say nothing about poor John. :( Mick however seems to get the most ugly comments out of all of them. They aren't even rediculously frequent or anything, I just noticed that there seems to be some kind of problem with him in things I read here time to time. I've even read that some people think his message board is wierd or something. I know I remember reading that his book was basically trash and should never have been released. But why else? Just curious. Peace Eric |
There's nothing wrong with lving money a lot, we all do. But Mick takes it to the extreme where it's like he see's all of us as his cash cows and he'll do whatever he can do to make a quick buck. People like that sicken me and don't deserve my respect.
He's always tried to make money through the years and it's partially because he doesn't know how to manage finances for ****. After all, Fleetwood Mac fired him as their manager because he was so ****ty with money. He went bankrupt for making ****ty land deals and whores out the other band members so that he gets more money. He wrote a book that was full of embellishments and lies, not because people cared about him, but because they cared about Lindsey, Stevie, and Chris and wanted to hear about them. So, he made money off of the misfortune of others. Nevermind the fact that Mick was one of the biggest cokeheads and what he wrote in his "book" was probably all fiction and lies. I wouldn't even call it a book, I'd call it "literary excrement." Like Bob Welch said, as long as Mick has money rolling in, Mick doesn't care what kinds of people he gets involved with. He hired the likes of a certain Jonathan Todd and I think that speaks for itself. Jonathan Todd has stolen money, tried to make money off of other people like the sweet Pip, he's corrupted the computers of people who disagree with his tactics, and he's trashing Fleetwood Mac in the process. And, here's the kicker, Mick Fleetwood knows all about it. Anyone who would argue the contrary smokes cannabis. So, for those reasons and MANY more, I think Mick is a piece of junk. And he ain't the best drummer by far, either. |
JC! No one is a piece of junk. Maybe someone who molests children or beats people to a bloody pulp or anyone who harms animals for no reasons...but Mick Fleetwood, just because he is money hungry, isn't a piece of junk. He's just someone who wants to retire, have money for his kids and grandkids. He must feel alot of guilt losing soooooooo much money, I bet Stevie is the same way. Im sure they both would like to die knowing their family are taken care of for years and years. Im sure Mick just wants to have a dynasty.

Laura-- I don't think Mick is a bad drummer, he's a great drummer. But he is FAR from the best. You want to see or hear one of the best drummers out there, check out Clem Burke; he puts Mick to shame. :D |

Check out Clem Burke? I don't need to... I've seen Blondie live ten times. And Kate, how did I know you would pop your head up at the mention of Clem? It's true, he does deserve more recognition. However, they have completely different styles of drumming. You can't really compare them in that way.

I think Mick's a pretty good drummer. I'm no expert, but his drumming on Rumours sounds really good to me. Maybe it's just my speakers.
|
Let me just add that, when I think of Mick's most impressive drumming, I think pre Rumours. So I may be using a slightly different reference point to some of you. It's strange though... people in the most random places point to Mick as an inspiration. I know drummers in punk bands that give props to the pre Rumours stuff.

Yes, this is so far off topic it's somewhere on the boundaries of our solar system, but I promise not to do it again! Laura. |

Gah... Chris has not yet updated. Dammit... But, I think Clem did this interview thingie with one of the webmasters/whatever... And, being off topic is fun! |
Shall I continue until they make me shut up? You're a bad influence, Kate!
But yes, both Clem and Jimmy (thank God he's back... we were so scared that he had defected to The Misfits) did interviews with Kat... I think it must have been backstage after some of the Australian shows. Laura. |
OK, I'm going to start a Blondie thread in the chit chat forum, since I feel severe guilt over being so far off topic. ;)

of course the man is no angel, but on the other hand, despite what you may think he's one of the world's greatest drummers, he is the man who kept this great band alive through thick and thin for 36+ years, and like it or not, he's the man who's responsible to the fact that lindsey and stevie have careers at all. please show SOME respect. 2. he's money hungry alright. yes, sometimes it's becoming unfair to us fans, but overall i'd say that his money grabbing is beneficial for most of us. what can i say, usually i enjoy spending money on FM. example: i'll be going to see them in london pretty soon, and it's about to cost me at least 1500$, honestly, i don't really have this money right now, will mick be responsible for this upcoming overdraft? no. this money grabbing can end with this wretched fanclub on one hand or Tango In The Night on the other. 3. the fact that i'm smoking a nice ganja as i write this, doesn't make my opinion any less valid than yours if you don't mind. |

1. It's a matter of *OPINION* whether or not someone thinks he's one of the "greatest" drummers. He's a good drummer in my book, but not one of the greatest in the world. It's a matter of opinion and personal taste. 2. I don't have to respect him for hooking up with Lindsey and Stevie. That's a bit far-fetched. 3. If you can explain how the fan club is beneficial to most of us, I'd be open to hearing you explain it. If you can explain how his "book" was beneficial to us, please explain. The things he does are beneficial to him and his cohorts (the band included), plain and simple. I respect his music, but I don't respect *him*. He's proven what an arse he is and that's enough for me. Once again, if someone doesn't agree, more power to ya. Our opinions are what make us unique. but don't insult people if you don't agree. :) |

Dissention, i read your post and it contained not even a single argument which could have made me change my mind or take back anything i've said. again, my point is that mick's money hunger was joyfully accepted on my side of the wallet, and usually my heart as well. i wish some day MY desire for money could cause as much satisfaction as mick's. as much as i hate the fanclub and its evil ruler, it DID in fact help me get a 5th row ticket. |
I kind of admire Mick. I didn't get mixed up in the whole Fan Club thing, so maybe that is one reason why I don't have anything against him. I think it is great that he is making money, he deserves it! Tons of celebs have written books and I'm sure everyone knows that you should not take what you are reading as fact. From all the interviews I have seen he is very funny and seems like a nice guy. He and Stevie are my favorites in the band... And of course, Chris. But I guess she doesn't count anymore!

Back to the question at hand. I also admire Mick because he is so enthusiastic at all the concerts. Just look at him on The Dance video and see how much fun he is having... Also, I'm money hingry to. I just have never had the change to make a ton. So I say Mick, more power to ya! |

I think Piece of Junk is quite a harsh thing to call someone, unless of course you live in a glass house:D I am not the biggest Mick fan by a long shot..but the man is a great drummer..and yea,so he comes off as way $$ hungry..it is annoying..he has ****ty choice in people who represent him...but overall..i can name alot of people with worse attributes than him.

Also, I have briefly met Stevie a couple of times and been within one foot of her at concerts, touched her hands, etc., and let me tell you that she glows as if a light is coming from her and it makes you think there is noone else there - now that is star power to me. I know that sounds insane, but I swear its true  In fact, others have commented on it. But, others have their opinion on such things and I respect that!! |

Dont forget you could PM "Pix" over here for the lo-down since Trinity is also an admin over on MF.com... Tommer, one of these days you and I should share a smoke. Ill bring the rolling papers. edit: Mick's done some pretty sleazy things (IMO) in his day... but "piece of junk" is a description I save for others who do much worse. Sad thing about that tho is I feel he IS doing wrong by the fan club fiasco, so who knows... |
Very interesting stuff people. His fanclub seems like an effin' mess, especially after reading this and breezing through that Jonathan Todd thread. Do you mean to tell me that guy has sent computer viruses to people in the fanclub? That's what I picked up from what I read.
Oh, and for those saying I should watch what I say...I never called Mick a piece of junk. I was ASKING if he was a piece of junk. There's a difference. |

IMHO I personally think it's really sad that people feel "taken" by the fan club. I personally don't have any proof that they haven't lived up to their promises as I, like someone else said earlier, can smell a rip off a mile away. $80, or what ever it was is no chump change, and didn't seem worth it. I have to wonder if people were charged only $20 (which is not alot of money) and promised the same things and didn't receive them, would they still be calling Mick a money grabber?
Also, I don't fault Mick in trying to make money. He's a drummer in a band who doesn't write, doesn't produce or do any of the studio stuff, and basically unless the albums sell huge amounts, he's not going to make one red cent. All him and John have is the touring money. Lindsey and Stevie have song writing / producing royalties. Lindseys solo stuff hasn't sold very well and he made up for that by producing FM. Producers of albums are the ones paid first - everyone else comes after. Stevie had the best of both worlds. Popular in and out of the band. Hey.... It's North America - and Capitalism is alive and well. As for who he has backing him up or running the fan club. That's probably, if you feel you've been wronged, were energy should be focused. But... since Mick is in the forefront, he's going to be the one picked on. |

Mick's not a demon. Mick's not a god. He's just a guy. Do I think he's devious? Not really. A little dumb? Short-sighted? Even selfish? Yeah. I'm not foolish to think he's actually going to try to do me any favors or look out for my best interest. I think that makes him average. The rock stars that actually look out for the fans are the ones operating outside the norm, not Mick Fleetwood.
