Christine singing "Dreams"
 

I just read a Reno review on Nicksfix and the person had commented on Lindsey's singing the verse of "Goodbye Baby" when Stevie could not. The person compared it to the time when Christine sang "Dreams." When did this happen and why? I've never heard of anyone singing anyone else's songs...

I think there was also a show during the Dance tour when Lindsey sang the last line or two from Silver Springs because the emotion of the song got to her.. I don't know anything about Dreams though

Yup, the reviewer on Nicksfix talked about LB finishing SS during the Dance...but this Dreams thing really intrigues me!

the only time i remember Christine singing "Dreams" was during a (or some) Rumours rehearsal....she also sang "Rhiannon"....she also sang the same songs during a/some of the Mirage tour rehearsals plus "Gypsy" and "Straight Back"....


I don't know if she ever did it during an actual concert.

Lindsey also had to sing a few verses of "Sisters of the Moon" on the Mirage video....i don't know if he "had" to or if they planned it that way though.

Yeah, I have it on a cd that is a Mirage concert rehersal I think. It's pretty bland though, nothing exciting at all. I'm sure she never did it in concert, only for when the band was rehersing without Stevie.

I have this also. It's interesting, only because it isn't Stevie singing.

The best part of that CD, if it's the same one I have, is Sara. Stevie stops the song in the middle and bitches at Lindsey and Christine for not singing back up vocals. She's like, "Well I can't hear any back up vocals, and that's because you're NOT SINGING!" It just stikes me as funny.

Mmm...it's been years since I've listened to it. I don't recall what you're saying, but I'll check it out tonight. I think Hold Me is interesting, and certainly not like the album version.

For the life of me, I can't find my Mirage outtakes CD with the great demo of Smile At You. If only they were able to get that same rage out of Stevie on the SYW cut, it would've been a great song!

I think this was just a rehearsal thing when Stevie wasn't around. It was nothing to write home about. Just imagine Chris' voice doing Dreams...nothing was bad about it, but nothing exciting here.

Lindsey finished Silver Springs in Atlantic City in '97 and apparently did a part in Goodbye Baby in Reno a few days ago. As for SOTM during the Mirage Tour, that was planned that way. Lindsey did that line "Some call her sister of the moon, some say illusion is her game, I'd like to wrap her in velvet, does anyone, know her name?" during the entire tour, I believe. I think he also sang that line on the Baton Rouge '78 version of Sisters too. I'm not positive, but I don't think he sang that part on the Tusk tour. I can't remember and all my old Tusk tour MP3's are gone when my old PC crashed.

Not so much the rehearsal version (although the three of them singing slow in the beginning is cool) but I really like the live version that gets circulated as part of the Shine Angel CD (Oakland, CA, 1982)! It's NOT the same as the album, but I think they sound like they're having so much fun on it! Especially at the end. I've heard people say it doesn't work live, but I don't agree. It's just different, and I think in some ways it's better! Christine's piano sounds so much more pure for some reason.

Incidently, there's also a rehersal version of Christine singing Rhiannon and Gypsy as well. Guess Stevie had a hard time getting to rehearsals... :laugh:

By any chance, is this the "Hold Me" where in the beginning Lindsey makes some odd noise "Hiyooo"...and then Chris is laughing about something. Then Linds goes into one of his canned speeches "This is the...this is uh...was the uh... first single off the Mirage album...it's one of my favorites...one of Chris'...it's called Hold Me!"

I've had this downloaded since the Audiogalaxy days with no idea what show it was!

By the way, I LOVE live "Hold Me!" "Hold me, hold me, yeahhhhh" was great! My favorite Mac songs have always been Chris/Lindsey colaborations. :nod:

Okay, so by any chance did Chris let loose and get all Stevie-esque on the end of Rhiannon? That song was still rocking back during the Mirage days...I jsut can't imagine Christine McVie doing the "I don't change, you don't change, it's all the saaaaaaaame - RHIANNONNNNNNNN..." at all. But I would pay good money to hear it!

I think I'd laugh if I ever heard Chris singing GDW or SOTM with that sunny voice.

I remember seeing a CD advertised on ebay last year with Chris singing lead on Dreams, supposedly.

Maybe not...I don't hear Chris laughing in this version, and I've got the order of "one of my favorites" and "one of Chris'" reversed and Lindsey says "I think this is a hell of a song...it's called Hold Me", but like you said Lindsey's little speeches are always the same so it's a little hard to tell.

By the by, this got me thinking about Chris and Lindsey...anyone else notice that there's one significant Lindsey/Chris collaboration on every album?

Just a product of them being in the studio together more since Stevie (as she admits herself) often wasn't there? I don't know...just something I've noticed...:shrug:

I only have a 13 second clip of Chris' Rhiannon, but I just can't imagine her letting loose like that! Anyone have a longer version???

As you might imagine, when Chris filled in for Stevie, she only sang the bare minimum, cause the point was for the rest of the band to practice - including herself. So the vocals are nothing exciting, quite soft and unclear in the mix (which is scratchy anyway), and I can assure you - no "Take me by the wind" stuff!

Sugar - although Don't Stop, Think About Me and Hold Me are written by Chris (well, Hold Me was co-written with Robbie Patton or someone I think?), you make an interesting point about them coming across as joint efforts, not just from the vocal sharing. They all have that same hard rocking sound ... and the idea of the instrumental musicians having fun and 'jamming' in Stevie's absence makes sense.

The songs that Sugar pointed out all have a similar "sound"--I'm sure you guys know what I'm talking about. It's like a jam session. I love the LB and CM collaborations.

I heard that when Stevie's band practices for her shows, Sharon sings all of Stevie's songs, and then Stevie comes in when it gets closer to the tour starting. I think that's weird, but Stevie's a busy girl.

Oh yeah, DownOnRodeo, I didn't really mean from a writing point of view, but more from the point that they aren't mearly acting as band members or backing vocalists, but have more equitable "featured" roles on the songs.

Although upon further reflection, I suppose the same could be said about "Crystal" and "I Don't Want To Know" with Lindsey and Stevie (interestingly, both Stevie penned). For obvious reasons that trend seemed to end after Rumours. Perhaps there was just always an intention to pair off the three singers in different combinations to make things interesting and Lindsey and Chris opted to continue on even after the "Lindsey/Stevie" combination became...shall we say...less desirable for the concerned parties... ;)

Why didn't Stevie and Christine ever write songs together, or sing more than backing vocals on each others songs? What a shame...

yeah there really wasn't any lindsey/stevie duets anymore after "i don't want to know"... i wonder why... actually i think i prefer the christine/lindsey duets like "hold me" their voices really work well together...

Christine has said in various interviews that she & Stevie were not compatable together as writers, just too different, I guess.

I do agree with everyone. The Chris & Lindsey duets are terrific. Their voices blended together perfectly.

Am I the only one who's inspired for a new thread where we submit Stevie songs as edited by Christine and vice versa? ;) ;)

I listened to it last night, and it is fairly subtle, but I'm surprised I never noticed it before.

The song is going along, and the music stops just past the halfway point. Christine says "I can't hear the piano well." Then Stevie says, kind of calmly, "Well, I can't hear any harmony, and it's probably because you're not singing."

Chris ignores the statement and continues to work on the sound of the piano.

Except for Twisted, which I would love to see them do live. I also think Lindsey would sound great on Leather & Lace.

Maybe it's because they could barely stand to be in the same room together, and when they did have to work closely on songs it was probably like pulling teeth.

Hey I've got that one. I think it's from Memphis '83, but I could be wrong. ok i just looked at the tour dates for mirage and that doesn't seem to make any sense whatsoever.:( ok that's better perhaps Memphis October 12th 1982.:D

I wouldn't say that, exactly. I think it was aimed a Chris more than Lindsey. It has the feel that she may have been giving her the evil eye while saying it. You can tell she's a little frustrated, but not much.

Kind of funny, the problem I've always had with Sara (especially the unedited version) is that it just goes on and on. This rehearsal of it stops and starts about 4 times. But, the different way it sounds each time makes it well worth the 10 or 15 minutes it lasts.

The tour dates listed on The Penguin don't even mention an OKC Mirage show, so who knows?

I noticed that so i snuck over to another site that had Memphis listed atleast, so I'm pretty sure that's when it's from, that is unless they went to Memphis twice.:rolleyes:

Nope, it's not Memphis...though they are similar...VERY similar. On Memphis, Lindsey says something in his intro like "This is one of mine, uh...one of MY favorites..." Anyway, I only know this 'cause I do have the Memphis '82 concert in it's entirety...and these are definitley different. This Hold Me is just bizzare, nobody knows where it's from!!

As for Memphis...Linds definitley gets in the sauce towards the end. His speech during the intro to GYOW..."Memmmmmphis we'd like to thankyouverymuch..." is so sloppy. And he kinda goofs the beginning of Blue Letter...but all in all a good show by a great band!

It's from the McNichols Arena show in Denver Oct. 15, 1982.

The Oklahoma City show at the Myriad was Sept. 26.

A statement of fact: The very short Mirage tour took place in 1982. There were no Fleetwood Mac concerts in 1983 -- Stevie was on to her Wild Heart period by that time. It doesn't take much effort to confirm this.

It's so easy for someone to get the facts wrong, and then have a whole lot of people accepting it as the truth. I tried to convince one on-line fan that her 1983 Mirage CDR show was from 1982. Yet I don't think she really believed me because "It says 1983 on the CDR!" (Just shoot me, please!)

Please be careful not to take any of the information provided on bootlegs as fact, unless you can substantuate it. I've been a Fleetwood Mac follower longer than most of the fans on this site have been alive. I know better.

Sorry if I bruised your ego, sweetie. If I'd realized how much it mattered to you, I would have changed it so that everyone could partake of your expertise (wisdom the likes of which newer fans like me, in our wretched ignorance, can only hope to one day obtain). I hope you can find it in your heart to overcome your disgust and condescend to forgive my horrifying oversight. I know I am unworthy of such consideration, and deserve all the contemptuous scorn you would like to heap on me in public forums such as this one, but I beg for it anyway.
