Lindsey's instrumentation on SYW
 

Lindsey is credited as playing keyboards on SYW. Do we know the tracks he is playing on?

Stevie is also credited with playing keys. Which songs?

Also, is that Lindsey in the backing vocals on "Running Through the Garden"??? What about "Say You Will"?---I can't hear him on the album version of this song.

Lindsey plays keyboards, mostly a Korg Triton 7 and a Yamaha Motif 8 on the following songs:

What's the World Coming to, Murrow, Thrown Down, Running Through The Garden, Silver Girl, Bleed to Love Her, Everybody Finds Out, Say Goodbye, and Goodbye Baby.

Stevie adds Keys to Running Through The Garden and Silver Girl

Backing Vocals: Lindsey is on Say You Will. THe chorus in the Album cut. Verses and Chorus in the remixes. Sheryl Crow sings the high vocals. Yes, Lindsey is singing on running through the garden.

I don't think Sheryl Crow is on Say You Will (the song). She's only on Silver Girl. The high harmonies on SYW are the kids--Molly McVie, Jessica Nicks and her friend.

I'd like to know where Christine sings and plays...I wish they had done a track by track credit listing...

I misspell Lindsey' s name all the time. I have a very good friend who spells her name Lyndsey. So that is always my default spelling.....sorry...I know it is with an I, but I am sure I will spell it with the Y again.

It is absolutley Sheryl Crow doing the high Say You Will's in the 3rd chorus. Very easy to tell just listening. Even easier to tell when you see the session sheets.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Christine sang vocals on "Bleed to love her" and "Steal your heart away".

I think those are the only songs that she was on.

Christine plays piano and sings backing vocals on Steal Your Heart Away. Backing Vocals on Bleed to Love Her. Sheryl Crow adds backing vocals on Silver Girl. John Pierce who played bass in the early GOS sessions played some of the bass parts on Steal Your Heart Away.

Where was this information obtained?

Session sheets? How did you see those??? Are you sure it's Sheryl and not just Lindsey messing with the tracks??

Without giving too much away....These are the sheets used by bands, studios to document personnel playing, singing engineering, etc. on a track. The band uses them to id the track they are on for recording/mixing purposes then the raw scriblings are detailed and fleshed out by a studio assistant to be given to the the record company to identify personnel for royalty payments. It is this final process where I was able to get to see them. If I could have copied them I would have, but they don't belong to me. They belong to Warner Bros and the Band. No I do not work for either.

It is Sheryl Crow!!! Don't know what else to tell you.

I would argue with that one... listen to the second voice behind Stevie's during the phrase "That kind of touch, electricity of love
That certain kind of grace." It sure sound more like Sheryl than Stevie to me.

Yes that's been the only thing really bugged me about the credits (who cares if it's Lindsey or Sheryl or Molly lol). My first guess was it was some sort of 'in joke' - but for all I know there actually is some sort of 'black keys' instrument...
I googled it but just got a lot of stuff about a band by the name The Black Keys. :shrug:

In terms of it being an 'in-joke', it could be that Stevie (and perhaps Lindsey) can really only play the piano in keys like C, Am which only utitlise the 'white keys'. It wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that John has a solid piano knwoledge. So maybe he's helped out or something - and the whole joke is that they're all trying to compensate for Chris' absence... it's pretty funny when you picture them there trying to manage it by themselves, lol!
Either way, if Lindsey was using a Motif, it's as easy as pressing a button to be able to play any key off just the white keys.

I've wondered if it's something as goofy as him just literally playing the black keys on a piano/keyboard, but I dared not ask about it before because I figured I'd get laughed off the board! *blushing*

In the text of one of my posts in this thread I write about John Pierce's bass contribution to Steal Your Heart Away. Details are in that thread.

I believe John shadowed some bass part by literally playing the same bass lines on the black keys of a synth. Noted on Illume and Everybody Finds Out.

I'm imagining Stevie or Lindsey playing the white keys, with John reaching around from behind to play the black keys! LOL

And as for the higher voices (on the album as a whole, not just on SYW), didn't Lindsey play around with the vocals? I read an interview where Stevie kept asking LB "Are you sure that's not Chris's voice? It sounds like her!?!?!" and LB said that it was his and/or Stevie's "fooled with."

I know I'm not the expert here...I'm just adding my thoughts for a more livelier discussion :)

Been here a few years....Have been able to provide some "inside" industry and radio tidbits during that time.

Hahaha, funny you should say that about Sheryl! I like her as a solo artist but I find her involvement with Stevie and FM weasly at best. It's like she's trying to get "in" with them, trying to be cool...if you know what I'm saying... I find it annoying too. :distress:

Dude, you gotta learn to leg go. That's the first thing. Second, your statement that Sheryl wants to be cool by hanging out with a bunch of 50-somethings gave me a hearty laugh. Wouldn't it be the other way around? Do you really think Sheryl needs to hang around these guys to be cool or popular?

Like it or not, she is quite talented. And she has plenty of other friends in the industry. They wouldn't waste their time with her if she weren't a true talent.

As for the black keys, literally it means the black keys on a keyboard. That the band specified that on the lliner notes was most likely an in joke.

I totally agree. I'm not really a fan of hers to begin with but her constant attachmen to Stevie and FM is getting a bit tiresome.

Plus I love how she tried to pretend she's above all the industry BS with selling an image and then turns around and starts dressing like Britney Spears saying it's okay because she's older?

Whatever, the radio doesn't give her the nick name "the borrower" for nothing.

At the TISL shows I attended, SO many people booed every time she came onstage. She looked wicked trashy too--very Britney Spears, as Rob put it . I went to see Stevie, not Sheryl. If they want to do a tour together, fine. I just didn't like how it was billed as Stevie Nicks, TISL and then I had to watch Sheryl sing her solo songs... The ones she did backup/duets with Stevie were fine...

I think Joe (DownOnRodeo) and I were both hesitant to believe that it really was something as simple as him literally playing just the black keys on a keyboard!
