You know you've listened to SYW too much when...
you begin to start picking up little things happening on the album. Is it just me or have any of you also noticed things like background noises on the new album??? I usually only hear them on my discman and sometimes on my computer....I can't hear them when they're in my stereo.
Things I hear.... *Steal Your Heart Away--I think it's a dog barking in the background and I was like, good grief, Sulamith! It happens at 1:59 and you can hear it best when you have headphones on. *Bleed to Love Her-- okay, you know how you can hear people smiling?? (I hope i'm not the only one who can...lol) well, you can hear Lindsey when he sings "and once again she calls to me" at 1:08...it's very sweet. *Destiny Rules-- um...maybe i'm nuts but when the chorus hits, everytime i hear people talking in the background...especially at 2:40 as Stevie is going into "I like the costal cities..." and really, everytime she enters the chorus. Maybe I have a really good discman that picks up on random stuff or i'm crazy. I'm hoping it's that my discman is good.  Get those headphones on and turn up the volume!!!! |
Off to have another listen!
Pip Oh... and I can definitely hear people smiling!! |
:wavey:
I'm gonna go listen too:nod: Jen |

rissa..i think the fact that you even notice things like that means you need a straight jacket. I never catch any of those things on any of the albums i listen to. Course i don't listen to SYW much cuz it is second from the bottom on my list of good FM albums (time is the worst) but i am gonna have to go find my discman to see if i can find those things now.

Hmm now I want to listen more closely! LOL!
I love Steal Your Heart Away on the verryyy end when Stevie softly sings: If that's all there is..... if that's all there is |
When I'm listening on my computer at work with the volume DOWN, all I hear is Lindsey's moans on Red Rover, LOL! When I'm blasting it in my car, I don't hear it nearly as clear!
And WHO is talking at the end of Murrow and what the heck are they saying! Makes me remember listening over and over to Tusk and trying to hear all the background conversations ("Who you're savage like"......, "How are the tables, Johnny" "Shhh!" "Oh, we're on already", etc.). Can't for the life of me figure out what's going on at the end of Murrow, though, LOL! |
Ok,i haven't really tried listening to the other things yet..but what about the sound of running water in Silver Girl?? wtf?? Tell me i am not the only one who hears it,lol...you can hear it starting at "She would have preferred the last generation..."
|
Hi all. Newbie here. I have noticed a few of those as well on the CD and was thinking it was just me.
|
Sara - I can hear it - it's just the reverb from the brush or whatever percussion that is.
Wow - now that I've found the dog part, I can totally see what you mean - great ears! GardenStateGirlie, as for the Destiny Rules b/ground talking, I think that's just the b/ground vocals of Lindsey's you're referring to. I can't hear it in the 'coast cities' bridge, but when he does vocals in the chorus, they are almost spoken, really soft in the left field. Hi Survivor!:wavey: |

LOL...thank god someone else hears it :P I was a little off on the whole runnning water thing, huh? Oh well..i just knew i heard something weird :) |

Running water...
YES!!!!! You are hearing the sound of like..water being poured out...into a glass or something...he uses the SAME effect in Play in the Rain on Go Insane. :D
I REALLY need to listen to SYW on my headphones more often....I usually crank the sucker up when I'm home alone, I've listened on headphones....maybe 1-2 times. COOL, I love freaky stuff like dogs or talking or whatever!!! Everyone should know by now that Lindsey does the "love grunts" from Big Love during EFO, RIGHT?!?! YA DO NOW!! |
Love grunts?!?!?! Please tell me where!! It's like, my favorite song and I've listened to it a zillion times and I cannot believe my little ears have not picked up on it yet.
Oh, and I thought in Tusk, he's saying "how are the tenors, Johnny?" and "REAAAAALLL SAVAGE LIKE!" lol |
Marissa...
Listen to the "anywhere we can, anytime we can...get away...get away..." and you'll hear the love grunts in the background...they fit PERFECTLY!!!!!!
|
OHMYGOD!!! Girl, that's HOT!!!! That is sooo fabulous! Damn, I'm lame...I love his love grunts.... ;) Thanks for telling me about them

One thing that always bothers me when I listen to Say You Will with headphones is how choppy "Goodbye Baby" sounds. It sounds as if they literally pieced in certain words from different tracks. I'm sure this isn't an uncommon technique, but it sounds so obvious on "Goodbye Baby". The point at which it stand out the most to me is when she sings "like a tunnel to the sea". The word 'to' just sounds like it was edited in somehow. And not to mention there is all this off-and-on background hissing.
|
GardenState,
Maybe that IS what he's saying, LOL! I'll have to dig out my 1970s ear phone and listen again!!! :) |

Go--all of the background sounds on Tusk crack me up. It basically sounds like one big party goin' on during the recording--I love the Lindsey love grunts on that too...UH..tusk..lol...and of course, the "HOOGA HAGA HOOOGA!" thing Lindsey does. You can also hear them go "shhhhh!!!" i guess to quiet people down. |

You know you've listened to SYW too much when....
....everything you play when you're jamming seems to eventually (and quickly) lead into parts from Peacekeeper, Come, Destiny Rules and Say Goodbye!:D :wavey: :wavey: :wavey: |
My favorite little sounds on this album are in Murrow.. when he goes back to playing guitar after the chorus, he sings along with what he's playing. "chicka bow bow.. chicka chicka bow bow.."
But you know, in that song, at the end they're talking.. and I guess its supposed to sound like an old broadcast.. but I WANT TO KNOW what they are SAYING.. sheebus. In Miranda, he sings along with what he's playing from about 1:46 until 2:15. I'm pretty sure it's him singing along - I think I caught him taking a breath after each phrase. I need to listen to SYW through headphones.. I haven't done that yet. I bet I'll hear all kinds of crazy shtuff then. Quote:

Hi there!! Another newbie here!!
Thought this was cute...... Since the Worcester concert I have been playing FM stuff in the car all the time. Since my daughter and I have a 45 minute ride in the morning we hear quite a bit of the CD. Well.......I know I've listened to SYW too much when my 2 1/2 year old starts singing along!!!! It's too cute!!! I can't get enough of SYW!! I love it. Stevie and Lindsey have great solo albums but this one is great! Their voices belong together! |
