Glenn Frey passes away
 

So my phone has been pinging all day with news app updates about the passing of Eagles co founder Glenn Frey at age 67. :angel:

Bowie was 69.

The members of FM are at ages on either side of both of these guys.

I'm sure they are saddened by the loss of another one of their contemporaries, but I wonder if it makes them think more about their own mortality as it relates to getting projects (either band or solo) done sooner rather than later.

I know that may seem a bit selfish, as I and many others would really really love to get one more album out of this band, but I wonder if it makes them more motivated as well. :shrug:

Omg, I'm really devastated. I only saw the Eagles documentary the other day and I was so blown away by what amazing musicians they all were. Also, Glenn did a UK interview not so long back with Joe and I thought they looked amazing.

A fantastic band that won't be the same. I'm so sad. I REALLY hope these great people we're losing will make the five members of FM realise that life is short and they are extremely lucky to not only be alive but have the enormous following they have so make music and do what you do best before it's too late!

RIP Glenn Frey. :(

^Touching. I can't even believe it. I wonder if he died despite surgery or if surgical complications caused it. I always think of the Eagles hand in hand with FM. Michele

I almost feel bad for even saying this, but I hope the recent passing of Bowie, Frey, Cole and Haggarty really lights a fire under the asses of Fleetwood Mac, and especially Stevie Nicks.

In 10, 20 years from now, no one is going to care about the touring they're doing. Well, no one except those who went to see the shows. But the albums? The albums are their enduring legacy, forever.

And there aren't enough of them.

It's crazy that all these deaths are happening all at once (more or less). We're all getting older...

also Mott the Hoople / Bowie drummer Dale Griffin at 67, today.

This article says he had been in the hospital since October 27 and that he was scheduled for surgery but developed pneumonia and was never able to have it.

I was just laughing because they were recounting that point in the documentary where Glenn threatened to beat Don Felder up during a live performance. He told him that after the show was over he was going to get him and Don must not have thought he was kidding, because as soon as the gig was over he ran and got in his car and drove away as fast as he could.

Man, when your immune system is down, you die of pneumonia or infection more often than you do of the original ailment. It's very scary as these people get older and more vulnerable.

STEVIE NICKS: When I was going out with Don, it was five years ago and I was much less busy, Fleetwood Mac was much less popular, we were just beginning. When I was with Lindsey, we lived together and were famous. It was the opposite extreme. I’ll never forget the day I was up at Don’s house having dinner with him and his manager, Irving Azoff, who is now my manager five years later, and Glenn Frey of the Eagles walked in and looked at me and said, "Spoiled yet." Like no mention of Fleetwood Mac. I was not even in the league of a singer. I was nothing more than a girl. My claws went out and I wanted to get out of there.

HIGH TIMES: I don’t know him well, but that sounds typical of Glenn Frey.

STEVIE NICKS: He’s witchy! And I love Glenn, and that was a long time ago. That was my first taste of what it was like to be a happening girl rock and roll singer. Going out with a very famous man rock and roll singer and have people not relate to me like I even had a job. I went out with John David Souther for a while, who is very, very, very male chauvinistic and very sweet and cute and wonderful but very Texas, and I found when I was with him, I didn’t mention Fleetwood Mac ever. It didn’t help my status with the man to bring up anything I did, so I didn’t. And then you start saying, "But I work too. I’m happening. I write songs, but you aren’t giving me a break."

Seems a tad melodramatic, no? These people were fighting illness, not age. A 45 year old could get liver cancer (like Bowie) or pneumonia (like Glenn) similar to how a 90 year old can be the picture of health.

Well, you can get it at any age, but there's no escaping the fact that it happens more frequently with age. Whether it's pneumonia or liver cancer or a fall, it's going to start happening to more and more of their contemporaries on a regular basis now.

Dennis Wilson drowning was a shock. Overdoses, car accidents, flukes took their friends away then. But now they have reached the age where losing a peer isn't a shock, it's just nature and instead of happening once every 2 years, it will be happening once a month. I mean at this point we'll be lucky to get out of January without someone else dropping dead who is connected to who they were.
