Not everyone can or wants to walk away from their family and loved ones because of a difference of viewpoints regarding sexual orientation.

I come from a devoutly Catholic family, and I know the mindset... but that doesn't stop me from loving my family and wanting to be around them, while also loving myself and being proud of who I am.

But... it took a long time to come to that. It's one of those "previously irreconcilable" things that I mentioned to Brandon.

I'm a big fat coward when it comes to that situation. GOD let me count the ways I love my family...but I would NEVER EVER come out to my parents except from a safe distance of 2000 miles across the country! :lol: I have specific family members that I know I could tell right this minute and they wouldn't love me any less...but others would be SHOCKED!

I meant in general when you tell anyone. Many people make the mistake of expecting approval or validation from other people. That is setting one's self up for a heartache as it may take some time. So, many suggest just telling people in terms of you do not want to exclude them from your life, but it is you, not their, life.

There is absolutely hope for you, and for anyone else going through these things.

Trust me, I didn't think I'd EVER get to a place where I could say that I loved myself and that I was proud of who I am. My self-esteem was all but non-existant. And the slightest anti-gay comment from someone would crush me, and I'd be depressed about it for days or weeks. I very easily could have been another suicide statistic.

It's why I get so passionate about that kind of stuff now... I hate to see anyone else going through that God-awful self-doubt and utter self-hatred.
